[0:02] shots were fired at President Reagan
[0:04] this afternoon within the past 20 25
[0:06] minutes or so as he left a speaking
[0:08] engagement at a Washington hotel by all
[0:10] accounts the president was not hurt we
[0:13] have received videotape from the uh uh
[0:15] hotel where the president was emerging
[0:17] you were watching it for the first time

[0:32] calling to the president as he emerged
[0:33] from the Washington Hilton
[0:38] Hotel the sound of gunfire According to
[0:41] some eyewitnesses there there were three
[0:43] to five
[0:44] shots and some people fell but the
[0:47] president as you saw was immediately
[0:48] hustled into his limousine which our
[0:50] camera does not show at the moment it
[0:52] immediately sped away we are told that
[0:55] some people in the area were injured and
[0:57] that seems clear from these pictures
[0:59] which we have just received but again we
[1:02] are told that the president himself was
[1:04] not
[1:11] H this uh occurred within the past 30
[1:15] minutes in downtown Washington the
[1:17] president had been addressing a meeting
[1:19] of the AFL CIO at a hotel in Washington
[1:22] the shots were fired as you saw after
[1:24] the president emerged from the hotel and
[1:26] waved to the crowd which was calling to
[1:28] him
[1:30] get me scene of considerable
[1:33] confusion and concern there but once
[1:36] again to repeat by all accounts the
[1:40] president was not
[1:42] injured this has been a special report
