[0:02] From ABC [music] News, World News
[0:05] Saturday from New York, here's Peter
[0:08] [music] Jennings. Good evening. This is
[0:10] the third night of the war in the Middle
[0:12] East. There are many more to come, but
[0:14] perhaps tonight, Israelis will sleep a
[0:16] little better. There's been an urgent
[0:18] effort today to improve Israel's
[0:19] security. The US Israeli request has
[0:22] rushed a shipment of the Patriot
[0:24] Interceptor missiles to Israel along
[0:25] with American servicemen to operate
[0:27] them. It isn't a guarantee that Iraqi
[0:30] rockets will not reach Israel again
[0:31] tonight, but it has, at least for the
[0:33] moment, kept Israel from attacking Iraq.
[0:36] The Allied air campaign against Iraq and
[0:39] occupied Kuwait goes on. Bad weather
[0:41] makes it difficult to assess the results
[0:42] today, and it is impossible to
[0:45] understand how many Iraqis are being
[0:47] killed in the incessant bombing. We
[0:49] begin with a report from Sam Donaldson
[0:51] who's in Saudi Arabia.
[0:55] There's a growing urgency here to find
[0:57] Iraq's Scud missiles and take them all
[0:59] out. These F-111s from a Red Sea base in
[1:02] Saudi Arabia have been flying against
[1:04] them all day. The political and
[1:06] psychological effect on the war of
[1:08] continued attacks on Israel is worrying
[1:10] US commanders at the Pentagon. We are
[1:13] conducting reconnaissance. We have
[1:15] aircraft up. We are covering the area
[1:17] constantly. We have Scud watches uh
[1:19] going on in theater and and other
[1:22] places. Uh and and we think that
[1:25] eventually we will be successful and
[1:27] reduce the Scud threat.
[1:29] >> The roundthe-c clock bombing raids
[1:30] against Scud launchers when they can be
