[2:54] >> K2 News Local Plus the Northwest only

[2:56] all local news weather plus the top five

[3:00] K2 News Local Plus starts right now.

[3:04] A military convoy carrying food and

[3:06] water plows through the flooded streets

[3:08] of New Orleans. It's the first major

[3:10] sign of relief since Hurricane Katrina

[3:12] struck four days ago sending New Orleans

[3:15] into chaos. Bodies are still in plain

[3:18] sight. Dead bodies, bro.

[3:20] Dead bodies. Today the Bush

[3:22] administration faces more criticism for

[3:24] the slow federal relief efforts.

[3:26] President Bush gets his first look at

[3:28] the destruction and misery and tries to

[3:31] comfort survivors. I believe that the

[3:33] great city of New Orleans will rise

[3:34] again

[3:36] and be a greater city of New Orleans.

[3:38] Tonight at the White House the president

[3:40] signs a 10 and 1/2 billion dollar relief

[3:42] bill an Air Force crew from the

[3:44] Northwest flies in supplies to the

[3:46] disaster zone and evacuates hundreds of

[3:48] refugees as dozens of Oregon National

[3:51] Guard troops take off from Portland.

[3:54] Good evening. Thanks a lot for being

[3:56] with us. I'm Steve Dunn. Deb has the

[3:57] night off. The numbers are staggering

[3:59] nearly 1 million people across [music]

[4:01] the Gulf Coast are homeless.

[4:03] The K2 coverage team is following the

[4:05] state of emergency. We begin with ABC's

[4:07] Jim [music] Weider live in Louisiana.

[4:09] Jim, what's the latest?

[4:09] >> Emergency shipments of water, food and

[4:11] medicine have arrived [music] here in

[4:13] Metairie but there's still a shortage of

[4:15] buses to take hurricane victims to

[4:17] higher ground. As a result stranded

[4:20] residents and tourists will spend

[4:22] another night under the stars.

[4:25] As the sun went down hundreds of

[4:27] evacuees [music] prepared to spend

[4:29] another night at an emergency center

[4:31] about 15 miles west of downtown New

[4:33] Orleans.

[4:34] Meanwhile in the flood zone a massive

[4:36] [music]

[4:37] relief operation began as a convoy of

[4:39] National Guard troops rolled in to

[4:41] restore order and evacuate thousands of

[4:44] stranded hurricane victims. It's

[4:46] anarchy. [music] It's it's just

[4:48] it's crazy. It's I've never seen

[4:50] anything like it. Not far away a caravan

[4:52] of buses as far as the eye could see

[4:55] transported others. One of them [music]

[4:57] crashed on the highway 100 miles west of

[5:00] New Orleans killing at least one person

[5:02] and critically injuring several others.

[5:05] President

[5:05] Bush returned for a ground survey of the

[5:08] storm ravaged Gulf Coast.

[5:10] I I

[5:11] understand the devastation requires more

[5:16] than one day's attention.

[5:19] It's going to require the attention of

[5:21] this country for a long period of time.

[5:23] Meanwhile people still wait to be

[5:25] rescued. The death toll is climbing and

[5:28] fires are raging throughout New Orleans.

[5:31] In Houston the Astrodome is filled to

[5:33] capacity. Officials said they could take

[5:35] in 25,000

[5:37] but there just isn't enough room.

[5:40] They're not doing everything that they

[5:41] can do because there's no reason why we

[5:44] should have all these people out here

[5:45] like this. Some of the buses were

[5:47] diverted to cities hundreds of miles

[5:50] away.

[5:52] The bus operation is expected to resume

[5:55] into the weekend as federal officials

[5:57] scramble to find new locations to

[6:00] transport hurricane victims. We're live

[6:03] in Metairie, Louisiana. Jim Weider

[6:05] reporting. Now back to you. Okay Jim,

[6:08] thank you very much for that. A crew

[6:09] from McCord Air Force Base in the

[6:11] Seattle area has been helping the

[6:13] victims of Hurricane Katrina all day

[6:14] now. They flew in supplies and evacuated

[6:17] people out of those devastated areas and

[6:19] K2's Keith Eldridge traveled with them.

[6:22] He has this report from San Antonio,

[6:23] Texas.

[6:25] As night falls settling in so too are

[6:27] the evacuees the survivors of the

[6:29] hurricane are settling into the

[6:31] evacuation center here in San Antonio a

[6:33] long far cry from the turmoil they left

[6:35] early this morning.

[6:38] The flood victims here in New Orleans

[6:40] say seeing this McCord C-17 fly in was

[6:43] like a gift from above coming in to get

[6:45] them out of this turmoil. When it became

[6:52] Let Applebee's light your grilled

[6:54] favorites.

[6:58] Hot off the grill and sizzling with

[7:01] flavor including our mouthwatering all

[7:03] you can eat riblets.

[7:08] Eating good in the neighborhood.

[7:12] Who's that?

[7:13] That's the guy who gets his salsa from

[7:15] New York City. New York City?

[7:18] Around here there's only one word for

[7:19] salsa. Pace. Made in the Southwest the

[7:22] right way. Pace. Grab the Southwest by

[7:24] the bottle.

[7:35] Introducing peanut butter cream Oreo

[7:38] double stuffed style.

[7:41] No. No. No. None of these are sexy

[7:44] enough. Find out what Eva Longoria is

[7:46] wearing.

[7:47] Something lower.

[7:48] >> Ellen DeGeneres hosts the Emmys live

[7:50] Sunday, September 18th.

[7:52] And that's how we won the NFC

[7:53] Championship. Cool.

[7:56] Darvin, we're going to be late for math.

[8:01] Brian. Hey!

[8:05] Here. It's the NFL Take a Player to

[8:07] School Sweepstakes. Visit
