[0:00] Hendersonville and he is John

[0:02] Frankenheimer. How did this project come

[0:05] about?

[0:06] >> Well, Larry, it came about I think

[0:07] through Ted Turner. Ted is a great Civil

[0:10] War expert and buff expert. Uh he wanted

[0:15] to do Andersonville. He commissioned it.

[0:17] David Rintel's wrote it and then the

[0:21] Turner Network came to me to do it.

[0:23] >> And did you jump at it right away?

[0:24] Because this is not your cup of tea. War

[0:26] movies, is it? Well, I did the train,

[0:29] you know, which was kind of a warm idea.

[0:31] >> Um, no, I didn't jump at it right away

[0:33] because I knew how tough it was. I mean,

[0:36] it was a it's a huge undertaking because

[0:39] you just have this tremendous set,

[0:41] thousands of people to deal with. And I

[0:44] thought, wow, I mean, do I really want

[0:45] to do this?

[0:47] And uh the producer was a woman named EA

[0:50] Wet with whom I had worked on Playhouse

[0:52] 90 and uh

[0:53] >> years ago

[0:54] >> years ago and uh with John Houseman on

[0:57] All Fall Down and she said uh we really

[1:00] want you to do this and I want to work

[1:02] with you and it you you know it's been a

[1:04] long time it's been this been that and

[1:07] for a lot of reasons you should do this

[1:09] and I said well I'm not available

[1:10] because I have to do this movie the

[1:12] Burning Season for HBO and she said well

[1:14] we'll hold it for you until you can do

[1:17] it. And with all that kind of stuff, I

[1:19] finally I finally said, "All right, I

[1:21] will."

[1:21] >> So, they waited and let you do the

[1:23] burning season, which was Ral Julia,

[1:24] right?

[1:24] >> Yes.

[1:25] >> What a man he was.

[1:26] >> Yeah, he was.

[1:27] >> He was a magnificent guy.

[1:29] >> Have you done a lot of television film?
