[0:00] I'm Harry Smith and you're watching the

[0:01] Early Show online. Today, the lottery

[0:03] winners who turned $21 into a $350

[0:06] million payday. Also, our week of wishes

[0:09] is going to help a couple of special

[0:10] women who have made caring for others in

[0:12] their community their life's work. And

[0:14] movie star Donald Sutherland. Those

[0:16] stories are just ahead on the Early Show

[0:19] online.

[0:19] >> The lives of seven California hospital

[0:22] workers changed in the blink of an eye

[0:23] last week. The lucky group shared the

[0:26] winning lottery ticket in the $315

[0:28] million Megaillions jackpot. Joyce

[0:31] Onori, Jennifer Hhabib, and Caitlyn

[0:34] Jurgens are three of the new

[0:35] multi-millionaire millionaires, and they

[0:38] are there all smiles this morning. Good

[0:40] morning, ladies.

[0:42] >> Good morning.

[0:43] >> All right, so Joyce, let me start with

[0:45] you because this time last week, you

[0:47] were just getting ready for another day

[0:48] at the office and now look at you.

[0:50] You're multi-millionaire. Has it all

[0:52] sunk in yet?

[0:54] Not really. Not really. One minute it

[0:56] does and the next minute it's like this

[0:58] isn't happening. So, [laughter] no, it

[1:00] really hasn't. Really hasn't yet.

[1:02] >> Jennifer, I understand you were the

[1:03] first one to figure out that you guys

[1:05] had won. Is that right? How did that

[1:07] happen?

[1:07] >> Yes. Uh it came on the news about 6 or

[1:10] 6:10 uh Wednesday morning and I hadn't

[1:13] seen the news Tuesday night. I didn't

[1:15] even know they had drawn the ticket. I

[1:17] really don't play uh pay too much

[1:19] attention to the lottery. And as the

[1:21] numbers were on the screen, I jotted

[1:22] them down, started comparing them to the

[1:24] copy we had on the ticket. And I said,

[1:26] "This is unbelievable. There's nobody

[1:28] there with me." And I was going to

[1:30] scream. [laughter]

[1:32] >> Jennifer, how many I'm curious, how many

[1:33] tickets did you guys have?

[1:36] >> 21.

[1:36] >> 21 tickets. And so you're going down the

[1:38] list and you're saying, "Oh my gosh, all

[1:40] these numbers match."

[1:43] >> Yeah, but it was only the fourth line

[1:44] down. And I got to the last number and I

[1:46] said, "Oh my god, I don't [laughter]

[1:48] believe this."

[1:50] >> Now, Kate, tell me, how did you find

[1:51] out? How did you find out, Kate?

[1:53] >> Um, they called me at home. I was in my

[1:56] pajamas doing my homework. [laughter]

[1:58] >> Yes. Because you're an interior design

[2:00] student.

[2:02] >> Yeah, I am. Yeah. They called me at home

[2:05] and said, "Get your little rump in

[2:06] here." And I was I ran.

[2:09] >> Now, you guys really laid low for a

[2:10] little while, right? I read that you

[2:12] needed to kind of get your thoughts

[2:13] together. Is that is that right, Joyce?

[2:15] >> Nice.

[2:16] >> And in that time, you're thinking what

[2:18] what what what does one think when

[2:19] you've won $25 million each?

[2:23] >> Well, for one thing, we just kept

[2:24] working. So, we weren't thinking much at

[2:27] all. And then uh then it was just making

[2:30] a decision of going together as a group

[2:32] and taking the ticket in and when we

[2:34] wanted to do that and how we wanted to

[2:36] do that.

[2:37] >> Joyce, Nory, Jennifer,

[2:38] >> money out there

[2:39] >> and Caitlyn Jurgens. Congratulations,

[2:41] ladies. Good luck to you.

[2:43] >> Over the next 5 days, we're going to

[2:44] make some amazing things happen in our

[2:46] latest week of wishes in which we focus

[2:48] on victims of a horrible hurricane

[2:50] season. Of course, it's not possible to

[2:52] help everybody, but we can all make a

[2:54] difference one person at a time. And

[2:56] today, we reintroduce you to a group of

[2:58] women we found before the hurricanes

[3:00] hit. They live in Gocha, Mississippi,

[3:03] not far from hard-hit Beluxy. And as

[3:05] Early Show correspondent Melinda Murphy

[3:07] tells us, they're as sweet as the pies

[3:09] they bake.

[3:12] Looks good to me.

[3:14] >> Before Katrina hit, this group of women

[3:16] got together at their church every

[3:18] Thursday morning for the past 10 years.

[3:20] >> There we go. Perfect.

[3:22] >> To bake pies. Lots of pies.

[3:24] >> We have to make sure that this gets

[3:26] mixed up real good.

[3:28] >> Each and every pie was sold to raise

[3:30] money for charity.

[3:31] >> And 10 is 20.

[3:32] >> How much money have you guys raised?

[3:35] Between 40 and 50,000.

[3:37] >> That's how much money you've raised?

[3:38] >> Mhm.

[3:39] >> Wow. And we've given all of that away.

[3:43] >> We can't solve world hunger and we can't

[3:45] solve this and that, but if someone

[3:47] needs a pair of glasses, we can do that.

[3:50] Or if they need their gas bill paid, we

[3:53] can do that.

[3:54] >> The ladies also supported a soup kitchen

[3:56] and the church's food bank. Their pie

[3:58] money has literally helped hundreds in

[4:00] the community.

[4:01] >> This is our outlet. This is our purpose.

[4:04] >> And it must make you feel great.

[4:07] Well, you're not supposed to feel good

[4:09] when you do something for God. You're

[4:11] just supposed to serve him.

[4:13] >> But it does make me feel good.

[4:16] >> Share with us, if you will, some some

[4:18] good news for these ladies.

[4:20] >> Well, we heard from the folks at the

[4:21] early show the story of what had

[4:23] happened and uh we at Fanny May decided

[4:25] there was something that we needed to do

[4:27] to help cuz you'd helped so many other

[4:28] people. So, we took the liberty of uh

[4:31] making a partnership with Safeway Homes

[4:33] down in Mississippi. We acquired a lot

[4:35] and we're going to build you a house, a

[4:37] two-bedroom house on Barracuda Street in

[4:40] Goier. And I'm very pleased today uh to

[4:44] give you uh a warranty deed for that

[4:46] house and the keys to that house and a

[4:50] check to get you started. It's going to

[4:51] be ready at about the beginning of the

[4:53] year. So, I'm very proud to say on

[4:55] behalf of all the people that you've

[4:56] helped, thank you.

[4:58] >> Helen, is is there a way to even

[5:01] comprehend what's just happened? No, I'm

[5:04] going to cry.

[5:06] >> Well, we heard that we heard that you

[5:08] you'd suffered mostly interior damage to

[5:10] your house and uh we take great pleasure

[5:13] in uh giving you a little check for

[5:15] $10,000 to help you get the house back

[5:17] in order and to get started and to hope

[5:19] you put the oven in first.

[5:21] [laughter]

[5:22] >> There you go.

[5:25] >> Thank you.

[5:26] >> Donald Sutherland has been one of

[5:27] Hollywood's most acclaimed actors for

[5:29] nearly 50 years now. Now, the legendary

[5:31] star is back on the big screen in an

[5:33] adaptation of Jane Austin's classic

[5:35] novel, Pride and Prejudice. He plays the

[5:38] longsuffering husband of a woman who is

[5:40] desperately trying to marry off their

[5:42] five daughters.

[5:44] >> Good heavens, people.

[5:49] >> For we may not visit if you do not, as

[5:51] you well know, Mr. Bennett, listening,

[5:54] never listen, Papa, at once.

[5:57] >> There's no need. I already have.

[6:02] Oh, Mr. Bennett, how can you tease me

[6:05] so? Have you no compassion for my poor

[6:08] nerves?

[6:08] >> Oh, you mistake me, my dear. I have the

[6:10] highest respect for them. They've been

[6:12] my constant companions these 20 years.

[6:16] >> Donald Sutherland, good morning.

[6:18] Congratul I can see why this is bringing

[6:20] a smile to your face. There were rave

[6:22] reviews for the movie and for you. You

[6:24] must be so pleased.

[6:25] >> Yeah. No, no. What I what brought this

[6:27] smile to my face was Brenda Blean who's

[6:30] just so exquisite. You you talk to me

[6:33] about a long-suffering husband. In in

[6:35] fact, he's a husband who just adores and

[6:39] loves her. He just the idea his life is

[6:42] built on a having sex with her. It's

[6:44] just [laughter] absolutely it is. It's

[6:47] just bliss.

[6:48] >> She is hilarious. And of course, the

[6:50] whole thought behind Pride and Prejudice

[6:52] is that she's trying to marry off your

[6:53] five dod daughters. And Cara Nightly is

[6:56] is really the heart of this film. She

[6:58] plays Lizzie Bennett and is absolutely

[7:00] exquisite in this movie. You've you've

[7:02] had some wonder you called her what the

[7:03] Marilyn Monroe of our time. I mean very

[7:05] high praise for her.

[7:06] >> Yeah. No, she's No, she's way better

[7:08] than that even. Uh she's just a

[7:11] brilliant actress. She's a brilliant

[7:12] actress and a a consumate actress and

[7:15] she's what 20 21 years old.

[7:17] >> Your family.

[7:18] >> You cannot make me.

[7:19] >> Mr. Bennett, say something.

[7:26] Your mother insists on you marrying Mr.

[7:29] Collins.

[7:29] >> Yes. Or else you'll never see her again.

[7:32] >> From this day onward, you must be a

[7:34] stranger to one of your parents.

[7:35] >> I will maintain you when your father is

[7:37] dead.

[7:37] >> Your mother will never see you again if

[7:39] you do not marry Mr. Collins. And I will

[7:42] never see you again if you do.

[7:44] >> Mr. Bennett. Thank you.

[7:46] >> You're doing so much. You're so busy.

[7:48] And show no signs of slowing down.

[7:51] Right.

[7:51] >> No.

[7:51] >> And this is a lovely film, Mr. Bennett.

[7:54] Thank you.

[7:54] >> One of your finest, Donald Sutherland.

[7:55] Thanks.

[7:56] >> You've just seen a portion of today's

[7:57] early show. More stories are just a

[7:59] click away.

[8:00] >> Tomorrow, remember Rob Mariano, a

[8:02] survivor of the Amazing Race. Now

[8:04] [music] it's Rob to the rescue.

[8:05] >> See what I'm doing on a horse farm

[8:07] >> and how he helps one lucky viewer on the

[8:09] Early Show.

[8:10] >> Be sure to watch the Early Show tomorrow

[8:12] morning at 7:00. For cbsnews.com,
