[0:04] >> from ABC. This is World News Tonight

[0:07] with Peter Jennings in London. And from

[0:09] our desk in Washington, Frank Reynolds.

[0:12] >> Good evening. The controversy over a

[0:14] possible boycott of the Olympics

[0:16] continues to dominate the news here

[0:17] tonight. Within the next few days,

[0:19] President Carter will decide whether to

[0:21] request an American boycott of the

[0:23] Moscow Olympics this summer in protest

[0:26] against the Soviet invasion of

[0:27] Afghanistan. Today, two top officials of

[1:08] problem we have is with the site and uh

[1:11] it should be pursued through the

[1:13] International Olympic Committee which is

[1:15] the owner of the games.

[1:17] The Olympic officials said they want to

[1:19] be patriotic Americans, but in a written

[1:21] statement made it clear they will not

[1:23] let the president tell them what to do

[1:24] in this matter. The statement said in

[1:27] part, "If the president of the United

[1:28] States advocates a boycott, we will

[1:30] immediately poll the US team and based

[1:33] on the collective view of the a
