[0:33] Hello and welcome to World News. I'm
[0:35] Colleen McDwards at the CNN Center in
[0:37] Atlanta. A United States judge says
[0:40] software giant Microsoft is a monopoly
[0:42] that harms its competitors. Judge Thomas
[0:45] Penfield Jackson issued what is called a
[0:47] finding of fact from an 18month court
[0:50] battle between the Department of Justice
[0:52] and Microsoft. It is the first step
[0:54] toward a final judgment in the case. The
[0:57] United States Justice Department calls
[0:58] the finding a major victory for
[1:01] consumers. We're enormously pleased by
[1:05] the court's decision today.
[1:07] The judge found what the department
[1:09] charged and what we introduced mountains
[1:12] of evidence to demonstrate a ch at trial
[1:15] which is that Microsoft is a monopouist
[1:17] and it engaged in massive
[1:20] anti-competitive practices that harmed
[1:22] innovation and limited consumer choice.
[1:25] This is truly an important victory for
[1:29] America's consumers and for the American
[1:31] economy. It shows once again that in
[1:34] America, no person and no company is
[1:38] above the law. Today's ruling by the
[1:41] court is part of a a long process that's
[1:45] been going on for some time. In the end,
[1:47] we're quite confident that
[1:49] Microsoft's integrity and our our belief
[1:52] in innovation, the benefits we provided
[1:55] to consumers, uh that those will be
[1:58] upheld. In the meantime,
