[0:00] Many buildings have collapsed and one

[0:01] official says thousands are now

[0:03] homeless. In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a

[0:06] man suspected of killing three police

[0:08] officers and injuring nine others

[0:10] remains in the hospital. 23-year-old

[0:13] Richard Paplowski is expected to

[0:15] survive. He was wearing a bulletproof

[0:17] vest during a 4-hour shootout with

[0:19] police. Police were called to the home

[0:21] he shared with his mother on Saturday

[0:22] because they were fighting over his dog

[0:26] urinating in the house. Victims of a

[0:28] deadly shooting rampage in Bingington,

[0:30] New York, are being laid to rest. Most

[0:33] were immigrants studying and working for

[0:35] a fresh start. CBS's Harris Serina Vosan

[0:38] reports.

[0:41] >> In song, prayer, and spirit, the people

[0:43] of Bingmpington are coming together to

[0:45] grieve.

[0:46] >> Let the healing begin.

[0:48] >> Those close to the 13 people killed in

[0:50] Friday's shooting spree began paying

[0:52] their last respects on Sunday. One of

[0:54] the victims from this local mosque was

[0:56] 57year-old Iraqi refugee Ila Khalil.

[0:59] Family friends say her husband cannot

[1:01] believe she is gone.

[1:02] >> He say twice in Iraq bomb blow up. My

[1:05] wife was there. Nothing happened to my

[1:06] wife. My wife got kidnapped by

[1:08] terrorism. They let my wife go. He said

[1:10] how my wife died in American civic. He

[1:12] still don't believe me.

[1:14] >> Neither does teacher Kay Grus. She was

[1:16] in the American Civic Association

[1:17] building when Jimberly Wong started

[1:19] firing. She rushed her beginner's

[1:21] English class downstairs. I had been

[1:23] down there before, so I knew it was

[1:25] safe. I knew it had thick walls and

[1:28] thick doors.

[1:28] >> Grus and her class huddled together for

[1:30] safety. While outside, police had the

[1:32] building surrounded within 3 minutes of

[1:34] the first 911 calls. No one was shot

[1:37] after police arrival, and none of the

[1:39] people who had been shot could have been

[1:42] saved, even if the police had walked in

[1:44] the door within the first minute.

[1:46] >> Police released the names of all 13

[1:48] victims Sunday. These were people from

[1:49] all over the world trying to make a

[1:51] better start in America. Four were from

[1:54] China, two each from Haiti and the

[1:56] United States, one each from Iraq, the

[1:58] Philippines, Pakistan, Vietnam, and

[2:00] Brazil. Police say it will be a long

[2:03] time before they understand the motive

[2:05] for this crime. Haris Savasan, CBS News,

[2:08] Binghamington, New York.

[2:10] >> The shooter committed suicide inside the

[2:12] center. The state of New York has

[2:14] pledged $100,000 to the American Civic

[2:16] Association so it can continue its work.

[2:19] The Midwest continues to get pounded by

[2:22] spring storms. Parts of Nebraska got 16

[2:25] inches of snow this weekend and wind

[2:27] reached up to 50 miles an hour. The same

[2:29] system hit Iowa, South Dakota, Michigan,

[2:32] and Illinois. The cold snap is expected

[2:34] to last at least through today. And we

[3:53] >> For the first time on TV, a doctor

[3:55] demonstrates just how lethal the drug

[3:57] is.

[4:10] >> All new.

[4:11] >> I felt like the worst mom in the world.

[4:13] I thought there was something wrong with

[4:14] me.

[4:15] >> Moms across America boldly break their

[4:17] silence.

[4:18] >> How did the sex change for you? You

[4:20] hated your husband for a while? Have you

[4:21] bathed in the last 3 weeks?

[4:23] >> Then TV Sheryl Hines confesses.

[4:25] >> I don't know who I am now.

[4:27] >> And two moms reveal what no one says out

[4:29] loud.

[4:29] >> We're failing.

[4:30] >> The good, the bad, and the ugly.

[4:32] >> I had to pee, so I reach into the diaper

[4:35] bag.

[4:35] >> Next, Oprah

[4:37] >> today at 4 on CBS 4.

[4:52] After a three-hour emergency meeting

[4:54] Sunday, the UN Security Council failed

[4:56] to come to an agreement on how to

[4:57] respond to North Korea's rocket launch.

[5:00] Pyongyang claims the rocket carried a

[5:02] satellite, but the US and its allies

[5:04] believe it was a smokeokc screen for a

[5:06] weapons test. And joining us this

[5:08] morning with more on the international

[5:09] fallout is Pamela Faulk, CBS News

[5:11] foreign affairs analyst. And um Pamela,

[5:14] why does it seem we've been uh doing so

[5:17] well with North Korea?

[5:19] >> Why do they come out and do this now?

[5:21] >> Well, you're asking the right question.

[5:22] It's hard to say really why. There had

[5:25] been a progression of events. First, the

[5:27] downside was that that North Korea had

[5:30] tested its nuclear weapons in the past

[5:33] few years. It had pulled out of the nor

[5:34] the non-prololiferation treaty. And

[5:36] then, as you say, things seemed to be

[5:38] going swimmingly. They had they had

[5:41] exploded part of the Yang Beyond nuclear

[5:44] plant. The US had taken them off the

[5:46] terrorist list. Everything seemed to be

[5:48] going well. Why they would do it is

[5:50] mainly the only feasible explanation is

[5:54] that they would like to be back on rogue

[5:57] number one list. I mean this is what

[5:59] does that get them? What does that do?

[6:01] >> But it's vintage Kim Jong-el. I mean

[6:03] this is he was reported to be very ill.

[6:06] He had a stroke. People were talking

[6:08] about succession which is sort of taboo

[6:11] relative to North Korea and I believe he

[6:14] just wanted to get back on the world

[6:16] stage and have the most leverage. Now

[6:17] there are some theories Karen that one

[6:20] is that he wants to sell these weapons

[6:22] once he gets it.

[6:24] >> His main customers Syria Iran

[6:27] >> Libya maybe Russia even maybe um but

[6:30] those are wild speculation. There's also

[6:32] wild speculation that China wants

[6:34] something out of this and so they're

[6:36] involved in it. But I think when you

[6:38] really look at this, it's clearly not

[6:40] what they say it is. And I I just say

[6:42] that professionally. They are saying

[6:44] this is a satellite launch for a

[6:46] satellite communications. The US is

[6:49] saying this, as you said, might be a a

[6:51] smoke screen. But in in reality, the US

[6:54] and UK position is they don't care if

[6:56] the nose cone or the payload has only a

[6:59] satellite communications piece on it.

[7:02] What they're saying is that's still a

[7:03] violation of this 2006 resolution.

[7:06] >> And let's talk about the Security

[7:08] Council meeting uh this evening. It was

[7:10] an emergency meeting, right? Nothing was

[7:13] done. Why? China's holding things up.

[7:15] >> It clearly is China's holding things up

[7:17] and you're on the mark on that one. Uh

[7:19] what they had was three hours huddled

[7:22] meeting behind closed doors. It was

[7:24] Security Council consultations. Now, the

[7:26] president of the Security Council,

[7:28] Claude Heler, who's the ambassador of

[7:29] Mexico and is the Security Council

[7:31] president this month, said, "Don't read

[7:33] too much into it. It's three hours in."

[7:36] What the issue is, number one, it was it

[7:38] was pretty much a flop. The the launch

[7:40] itself, it didn't go very far. Number

[7:42] two is the United States, and you heard

[7:44] this from Robert Gates, doesn't consider

[7:46] it much of a threat. So, given that,

[7:49] there's a little bit of time to

[7:50] negotiate this in the right way. China

[7:53] said they wanted to be proportionate and

[7:55] cautious. Clearly, China is holding up a

[7:57] condemnation. And what they are belief

[7:59] is if he hasn't Kim Jong- in particular,

[8:02] Pyang in general hasn't responded to

[8:05] positive reinforcement, you've got to

[8:07] cajol him in or nothing's going to

[8:09] happen.

[8:10] >> Uh, a lot of folks, just really quickly,

[8:11] a lot of folks might not be aware that

[8:13] right now two American journalists are

[8:15] being held in North Korea. How does that

[8:17] figure into the negotiations that are

[8:19] going on at the United Nations?

[8:20] Technically speaking, it shouldn't and

[8:23] there should be special emissaries,

[8:24] perhaps Steven Bosworth on behalf of the

[8:27] administration who would go try to

[8:28] negotiate their release. Now, the

[8:30] government has said that they'll put

[8:31] them on trial. Any government believes

[8:34] that there have to be immigration

[8:37] agreements and they as far as the North

[8:39] Koreans are saying crossed over the

[8:42] border unintentionally perhaps, but they

[8:45] but they will be a bargaining chip.

[8:47] let's face reality in the negotiations

[8:50] in the sense that the United States

[8:51] wants North Korea back in the fold,

[8:54] wants to not necessarily uh be soft on

[8:58] North Korea, wants to condemn North

[9:00] Korea for what they just did. I'll tell

[9:02] you what the issue is. The North Korea

[9:04] says it's a satellite. The United States

[9:06] doesn't care. What was explained by the

[9:08] Japanese ambassador was the combination

[9:11] of North Korea having nuclear weapons

[9:14] and being so opaque about what they do

[9:16] is why they can't like everybody else

[9:18] under the Outer Space Treaty, which is

[9:20] what they're referring to, get what

[9:22] everyone else does, which is a ballistic

[9:24] missile to send up a satellite. So, it

[9:27] is unfair. And I think the reason that

[9:30] China wants to take its time, even

[9:32] though they did vote for this resolution

[9:33] that banned some of this this trade,

[9:36] right, um, and and other countries from

[9:38] trading with North Korea, they want to

[9:40] take their time in doing I think they'll

[9:41] come out with something actually.

[9:42] >> All right. So, the closed door uh

[9:44] bargaining uh continues tomorrow. Uh,

[9:47] and we'll see how far

[9:49] >> several days and they'll come up with

[9:50] something.

[9:51] >> Okay. CBS News foreign affairs analyst

[9:53] Pamela Faulk, thank you so much for

[9:55] joining us this morning.

[9:56] >> My pleasure. We'll see how it goes.

[9:58] >> A senior Taliban commander is

[10:00] threatening more violence in Pakistan

[10:02] unless the US stops firing missiles into

[10:04] that country. The threat follows a

[10:06] deadly suicide attack Sunday south of

[10:08] Islamabad. At least 22 people were

[10:11] killed and dozens more wounded. A wave

[10:13] of recent attacks has Washington worried

[10:16] that the violence in Pakistan is

[10:18] spreading beyond the troubled Afghan

[10:20] border region. Now, some dramatic

[10:22] pictures from Antarctica this weekend.

[10:24] They show another big chunk of the

[10:26] massive Wilkins ice shelf has crumbled.

[10:29] Average South Pole temperatures have

[10:30] risen four degrees over the last half

[10:32] century. And from ice to fire, Chile's

[10:36] Yima volcano continues to spew lava,

[10:39] smoke, and ash after erupting Saturday.

[10:41] It's one of South America's most active

[10:43] volcanoes and last erupted in January of

[10:46] last year. You're watching CBS News Up
