[0:00] Yeah, news of financial improprieties.
[0:03] The Christian Coalition takes a leap of
[0:05] faith on behalf of Republican George W.
[0:08] Bush and the LAPD under more fire for
[0:11] alleged corruption and brutality.
[0:16] This is the CBS Evening News with Thalia
[0:20] Assuris.
[0:23] Good evening. After a week and a half of
[0:25] battling, some very public, some behind
[0:28] closed doors, a new art exhibit opened
[0:30] in New York today, infuriating the mayor
[0:32] and others. Now, some say it is not so
[0:35] much a battle about art as it is about
[0:37] politics. Many think Mayor Rudy Giuliani
[0:39] was only staking out a position in his

[1:06] you say this is anti-Christian?
[1:08] Inside the museum, today's first
[1:10] visitors got a chance to see what all
[1:12] the fuss was about. Artist Damen Hurst's
[1:15] dead animals in faldahhide, which so
[1:17] offended New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani,
[1:20] he threatened to yank $7 million in city
[1:23] funding from the museum. It does make
[1:25] you question what art is about and where
[1:28] you draw the lines. I don't think it's
[1:30] anything very shocking or particularly
[1:31] offensive. Visitors also saw artist
[1:34] Chris Oily's Holy Virgin Mary, which the
[1:37] mayor claimed was Catholic bashing.
