[0:03] There are now three, count them, three

[0:06] more shopping days before Christmas,

[0:07] Hanukkah, and Quanza. If you still have

[0:10] shopping to do, you might want to either

[0:11] leave now if you're hitting the stores,

[0:13] or if you're shopping online, think

[0:15] overnight delivery. Either way, you may

[0:17] still need some ideas. And here to help

[0:19] with that is CBS News technologist

[0:21] digital Dan Devner is always here with

[0:23] those last minute rescue me, help me Dan

[0:25] ideas.

[0:26] >> Yes. But as you know, my main theme on

[0:29] the holidays is not what I'm going to

[0:31] get others, it's what I'm getting

[0:32] myself. And so the kinds of things that

[0:35] I would get myself if I were uh so happy

[0:40] to uh to uh be able to get something

[0:43] like this. This is location free TV from

[0:45] Sony. And uh this is the monitor. The

[0:49] way this system works is that you get

[0:52] this little box and you connect it to

[0:54] your TV set at home, your to your DVR,

[0:57] something like that at home. And from a

[0:59] remote unit, this works 100 ft away and

[1:02] I can change the channels. And on this

[1:05] device here, this is a little PSP. Um,

[1:08] it connects to the internet and I can

[1:12] get this video sent anywhere in the

[1:14] world as long as I'm connected to that

[1:16] recently, too. So I was in Israel and I

[1:19] was connecting to a to in New York City

[1:21] and I was watching television just like

[1:23] this in in real time connecting directly

[1:26] to the DVR and it was just an amazing

[1:30] experience to watch whatever I want to

[1:31] watch

[1:32] >> which was us all the time right

[1:34] >> absolutely I wouldn't miss a show and uh

[1:37] another unit that does something very

[1:39] similar to the Sony's location free TV

[1:42] um is this thing called sling box which

[1:44] which does the same basic thing you

[1:46] attach this through these cables here to

[1:49] the internet and to the TV. And it

[1:51] controls remotely your your DVR. And uh

[1:55] this is about $250. The Sony thing with

[1:58] that very cool monitor I showed is about

[2:00] $1,300. Um but it's an amazing

[2:04] transformation in how you're going to

[2:06] watch TV because not only are you

[2:08] watching whatever you want now with uh

[2:11] with Teos and stuff, but you're also

[2:13] going to be placehifting. You're going

[2:15] to watch your television wherever the

[2:17] heck you want.

[2:17] >> How amazing is this for somebody sitting

[2:19] at home watching the TV while you're

[2:20] switching the channels on them? Though

[2:22] >> that's one of the problems with this

[2:23] system because you can be a world apart

[2:26] changing the channels on your TV at

[2:28] home. Uh someone watching your TV at

[2:29] home may get a little uh disconcerting.

[2:31] >> So fighting over the remote instead of

[2:33] across the living room across the world.

[2:35] >> It's one of the very very crazy things

[2:36] that is going on.

[2:37] >> Is this a nose hair clipper or what is

[2:39] this?

[2:40] >> This is not a nose hair clipper, but

[2:41] thank you for thinking of one. I could I

[2:43] could surely use one of these. This is a

[2:46] brilliant thing for for kids. It's

[2:48] called the Fly um and it's the Fly pen

[2:51] top computer. It's only $99 and it's got

[2:53] this little optical scanner in here and

[2:56] a pen and you can use it works with fly

[2:59] paper. You can't really tell from here

[3:01] that this fly paper um has little codes

[3:04] on it so it sees it. And I'm trying to

[3:07] So here I'm playing musical sounds. You

[3:10] draw a little keyboard.

[3:12] And you can start

[3:14] >> recording stop recording stop

[3:16] >> recording stop. And the thing is that

[3:18] you can do a calculator. You can do uh

[3:21] uh hundreds and hundreds of different um

[3:25] homework type things like my spelling

[3:27] list. So my kids are now using this to

[3:29] work on their spelling words where they

[3:30] write in their spelling words and they

[3:32] play little.

[3:32] >> We should emphasize though again you

[3:34] have to have that paper. This doesn't

[3:35] work.

[3:35] >> You have to have this pen, that paper.

[3:37] And actually um as you try different

[3:40] language things, calculators, you have

[3:43] different tops. That's why they call it

[3:44] a pen top computer. It these little tops

[3:47] go in it. But it is a brilliant

[3:49] >> neat tool

[3:50] >> tool for learning because it works with

[3:53] textbooks and it actually lets you

[3:55] download practice test questions from

[3:59] real textbooks and use them with the

[4:02] special fly paper as well. It's a very

[4:04] very cool technology. I love it for my

[4:06] kids. Um, and in terms of kids, you

[4:10] know, you think of the ultimate kids

[4:12] toy. This is the

[4:14] >> Now, it's perverse of me four days to

[4:16] suggest four days before 3 days before

[4:18] the holidays that anyone can get the

[4:19] Xbox 360, which this is. And let's play

[4:22] a little uh video from one of the Xbox

[4:24] 360 games that we have here. This is the

[4:26] Madden's uh game that we have. Can we

[4:29] play that? Uh, the thing about the Xbox

[4:32] 360 games is that you have this

[4:34] incredible 16x9 widescreen experience

[4:37] with total surround sound. And so if you

[4:40] have the stereo systems and if you have

[4:42] the HD systems or the projector systems,

[4:45] the only way to watch and play video

[4:48] games in the future is using this

[4:50] incredible uh Xbox. I mean, I I became

[4:54] addicted uh and I love the uh infrared.

[4:57] should point out for those who did not

[4:59] get one this Christmas if my son's

[5:00] watching which he's not that these it's

[5:02] not good if you don't have all of those

[5:03] the HD it's just a regular Xbox then

[5:05] right or it's not you lose what's so

[5:07] special about it

[5:08] >> if you don't have the screen to show it

[5:10] on and the sound system to get the

[5:11] maximum value out of it perhaps you

[5:14] should stick with the uh previous Xbox

[5:16] but there are some wonderful games also

[5:18] available that are coming you'll be

[5:20] seeing more of these as they slowly ship

[5:23] from the point of manufacturer here um

[5:26] it should have been here for Christmas,

[5:28] but it isn't. Let me talk about some of

[5:29] the games that our uh fun colleagues um

[5:33] at CBS News's Gamecore said were the top

[5:36] picks for the holiday. One is Resident

[5:38] Evil from Gamecube. Uh it's a adult

[5:40] game. Uh so it's not for the kids. Fear

[5:43] is another one that's wonderful. Uh

[5:46] again, an adult game for PS2. Shadow of

[5:48] the Colossus, Stubs the Zombie, Rebel

[5:51] Without a Pulse for Xbox, and Project

[5:52] Gotham Racing 3. I love this game. It is

[5:56] fabulous. Um, so I would get that for

[5:58] Xbox 360.

[5:59] >> So you've just got your little Christmas

[6:01] taken care of, your little Hanukkah, all

[6:02] of that, right?

[6:03] >> All right, Dan, thank you as always.
