[1:14] >> Woo!

[1:16] Well, I wouldn't suggest you try that in

[1:18] the old family car or even in your

[1:20] average truck. But then that's why

[1:22] machines like these are made to handle

[1:24] terrain that's too rugged for an

[1:26] everyday automobile. Thanks, Dick.

[1:29] Now, it wouldn't make much sense to buy

[1:31] a beast like this for the daily haul to

[1:33] the office any more than it would make

[1:35] sense to pile into a a Formula 1 racing

[1:37] machine for a Sunday drive with a

[1:39] family.

[1:40] But that's the beauty of today's

[1:41] choices. You pick the car for the

[1:44] purpose at hand.

[1:45] Of course, on a nuts and bolts level,

[1:47] all cars are basically the same. They've

[1:49] all got pistons and fan belts and wheels

[1:52] and headlights and tail lights.

[1:54] But that's pretty much where the

[1:55] similarity ends.

[1:56] And the very same thing applies in the

[1:58] world of computers.

[2:00] Whatever the user needs, there's a

[2:02] particular machine designed to meet that

[2:04] need.

[2:07] >> Like automobiles, computers seem to come

[2:09] in an unlimited range of shapes and

[2:12] sizes, from micro to mammoth.

[2:19] In the last 30 years, since the first

[2:21] giant computers appeared on the scene,

[2:24] these thinking machines have begun to

[2:26] escape the confines of corporate

[2:28] computer centers, and now it seems that

[2:31] they're found almost everywhere.

[2:34] From home to office,

[2:39] from the classroom to the video arcade,

[2:45] and from the supermarket to the assembly

[2:47] line.

[2:49] At the same time, computers are growing

[2:51] both larger and smaller.

[2:54] Greater powe
