[0:00] size star who's out to change the face

[0:02] of daytime.

[0:03] >> My talent is not based on my size.

[0:06] >> New information on the MC Jagger

[0:08] marriage and the 28-year-old erys Mick

[0:10] may be seeing now.

[0:12] >> And has Captain Kirk finally gone crazy.

[0:15] Why he's gone from space hero to rap

[0:17] star.

[0:18] >> So tears tears.

[0:24] >> This is Entertainment Tonight, the most

[0:26] watched entertainment news program in

[0:28] the world. Here is the very latest from

[0:30] Hollywood for this Tuesday, June 1st,

[0:32] 1999. Hi everybody, I'm Bob Goen

[0:35] >> and I'm Mary Hart. Star Wars set new box

[0:38] office records over the long Memorial

[0:39] Day weekend and so did Julia Roberts. As

[0:42] Leonard Molton tells us, Julia's news

[0:44] proves you don't have to travel to a

[0:46] galaxy far, far away to have a hit on

[0:48] your hands.

[0:53] >> Julia Roberts smashed box office records

[0:55] this weekend. Her Nodding Hill brought

[0:57] in 27.8 8 million. That's the biggest

[1:00] opening of a romantic comedy in history

[1:02] and Julia's best launch ever, even

[1:04] beating out the debut of Pretty Woman.

[1:06] Star Wars Episode 1 earned 64.8 million

[1:09] this weekend, but now it has to fight

[1:10] Julia for staying power.

[1:13] >> I've been on a diet every day since I

[1:14] was 19, which basically means I've been

[1:18] hungry for a decade.

[1:20] >> In this scene, Julia is the surprise

[1:21] guest at a dinner party held by Hugh

[1:23] Grant and his friends. They play a game

[1:25] where the guest with the saddest story

[1:27] wins dessert.

[1:28] >> One day, I've had a series of not nice

[1:30] boyfriends, one of whom hit me. It's

[1:33] taken two rather painful um operations

[1:37] to get me looking like this.

[1:39] >> Really?

[1:41] >> No. Nice try, gorgeous, but you don't

[1:42] fool anyone.

[1:44] Marie Cla's July issue, which hit stands

[1:46] a week from today, replicates this

[1:48] enchanting experience, choosing six

[1:50] unsuspecting New Yorkers to have dinner

[1:53] with the star.

[1:54] >> As soon as Julia Roberts walked in the

[1:55] room, people were just in awe and kind

[1:58] of shell shock.

[2:00] There was a wonderful moment in the

[2:01] dinner party when one of the guests

[2:05] asked Julia Roberts what she did for a

[2:08] living and none of us could believe that

[2:10] she didn't know who she was and she

[2:12] didn't recognize her. Julia Roberts

[2:13] replied, you know, with a straight face.

[2:15] Well, actually, I'm an actress. And then

[2:17] Suzanne, the guest said, "Well, have you

[2:20] been in anything I might have seen?"

[2:22] "Pretty Woman," Julia Roberts goes. And

[2:24] it just slowly dawned on her who she

[2:27] was.

[2:29] Just like the movie. Thanks, Leonard.

[2:31] The box office success of Star Wars

[2:33] though depends in part on having a good

[2:35] bad guy loose in the universe. Now, that

[2:37] dubious honor belongs to dastardly Darth

[2:40] Maul. And now, Chris Raggy lets us meet

[2:42] the man behind the map. At

[2:44] >> last, we will reveal ourselves to the

[2:46] Jedi. At last, we will have revenge.

[2:49] >> Before there was Darth Vader, there was

[2:50] Darth Maul, a devil on the dark side of

[2:53] the Force. Now, ET is first to shed

[2:55] light on the man beneath the red face

[2:57] and horns.

[3:00] He's 24year-old Ray Park, who makes his

[3:02] motion picture debut in the Star Wars

[3:04] prequel. I guess you picked a pretty

[3:06] good movie to start with, huh?

[3:08] >> I was lucky, I think.

[3:10] Lucky and uniquely qualified, Ray's a

[3:13] Scottish martial arts expert who has

[3:15] trained like a Jedi since he was seven.

[3:18] Stars is the first movie I saw on a big

[3:20] screen when I was a kid and um I didn't

[3:22] know what I was getting myself into.

[3:24] >> And go.

[3:31] >> It was hard work. You know, we were

[3:33] rehearsing 12 to 14 hours a day on fire

[3:35] >> sound and you land here like this. In

[3:37] addition to doing his own stunts, Ray

[3:39] helped teach Liam Niss and Euan McGregor

[3:41] how to wield their space age weaponry.

[3:44] >> What would it take to get a guy like me

[3:45] ready to go for the lightsaber quickly?

[3:47] >> Um, a few years maybe.

[3:49] >> A few years a lot come from here and

[3:52] bring down.

[3:53] >> Even with sticks for lightsabers, Ray

[3:55] gave this apprentice a whole new

[3:57] appreciation for the power of the force.

[4:01] >> Barely good. He's kidding me. I'm dead.

[4:05] >> Thanks a lot, Chris. Ray's gig as Darth

[4:08] Maul was something of a fluke. Actually,

[4:10] he'd been brought in just to train

[4:12] fighters, but George Lucas saw Ray's

[4:14] tape and Darth Maul was born.

[4:16] >> More Star Wars villain leads the ET news

[4:19] brief.

[4:20] >> This embarrassing.

[4:22] >> Less than two weeks after opening in

[4:23] theaters, the Star Wars epic is

[4:25] reportedly being bootlegged over the

[4:27] internet. Lucas Films is working with

[4:29] both the FBI and the MPAA to crack down

[4:32] on the video pirates

[4:34] and pass out the cigars for Johnny Depp.

[4:37] He became a father in Paris late last

[4:39] week. Depp's love, French actress

[4:40] Vanessa Parad and their newborn daughter

[4:42] are both tier.

[4:45] Rolling Stone Mc Jagger continues to

[4:47] roll along with no signs of slowing down

[4:49] as rumors surfaced of yet another

[4:51] romantic involvement for Jagger. You

[4:53] need a scorecard to keep them all

[4:54] straight.

[4:58] MC Jagger's latest love is reportedly

[5:00] 28-year-old Venezuelan beauty Vanessa

[5:02] Newman, an aist pursuing a PhD in

[5:05] philosophy. Vanessa lives on Mystique,

[5:08] the same island where Mick Jagger and

[5:10] Jerry Hall have been vacationing for

[5:12] quite some time. So, in some respects,

[5:14] she really is the girl next door. And

[5:17] reports have the agent Kasanova awaiting

[5:19] DNA results to determine if he's the

[5:21] father of the son recently born to his

[5:23] former flame, 29-year-old Brazilian

[5:25] model, Luchana Morad. Meanwhile, Jagger

[5:29] should learn this week whether Jerry

[5:30] Hall is legally his wife. In an attempt

[5:33] to keep his divorce settlement to a

[5:34] minimum, Jagger has gone to court,

[5:36] challenging the validity of the marriage

[5:38] which took place on the island of Bali.

[5:40] >> It just seems like scabs are being

[5:42] ripped off wounds and it's all going to

[5:43] become very painful. When contacted by

[5:45] ET, representatives of the couple

[5:47] refused to comment. And Jerry Hall's

[5:50] divorce settlement from Jagger won't be

[5:51] cheap. Some estimates put the singer's

[5:53] personal fortune at around $240 million.

[5:57] Actress Maline Stowe traded the bright

[5:59] lights of Hollywood for the bright sun

[6:01] of her Texas ranch. But now, Meline has

[6:03] come back to movie making with John

[6:05] Travolta. And she tells us why as she

[6:07] sits down onetoone with Julie Moran.

[6:16] You took two years off to devote to your

[6:18] baby and people in Hollywood thought you

[6:20] were crazy. Well, I think they still

[6:22] think I'm kind of crazy cuz I live for

[6:23] the most part in Texas. Meline Stow

[6:25] plays by her own rules and has no

[6:27] regrets. She told me living far from the

[6:29] glitz and glamour of Hollywood with

[6:30] husband Brian Benban and their daughter

[6:32] May is a decision she's happy to have

[6:34] made when we went onetoone. It was

[6:36] something I had to do. I never said I

[6:38] want to stop working. That just didn't

[6:40] happen. It would mean making some hard

[6:42] choices. And if it means abandoning time

[6:44] with my child, that is no choice. That

[6:46] can't happen.

[6:47] >> I think I can help you on this one, but

[6:49] I don't want it to be awkward.

[6:51] >> Awkward? Now, why would you think it

[6:52] would be awkward?

[6:53] >> Now, Meline's back playing the part of a

[6:55] tough military investigator teamed with

[6:57] John Travolta and The General's

[6:59] Daughter.

[7:00] >> He's such a formidable human being, you

[7:02] know, and he was absolutely lovely. I

[7:03] mean, we were so physically and

[7:05] emotionally comfortable with one another

[7:06] that it was um a a real unique pairing.

[7:10] The military who done it is set in the

[7:12] south and in search of an authentic

[7:13] look, the production took cast and crew

[7:15] on location shooting in Savannah,

[7:17] Georgia.

[7:18] >> How did you like uh the heat and the

[7:19] bugs and everything down south?

[7:21] >> Everybody asks me, you know, they say,

[7:23] "Oh gosh, was it a miserable shoot?" I

[7:25] love the heat. I love humidity. And from

[7:27] a totally vain standpoint, it's

[7:29] wonderful. So good for the skin. It

[7:31] plumps you out. You have a glow. It's

[7:33] like, you know, and then and then what's

[7:34] the worst? You go to your trailer where

[7:36] it's nice and air conditioned. It's like

[7:38] piece of cake.

[7:40] That good old southern glow. The

[7:42] general's daughter opens nationwide two

[7:44] weeks from Friday. And now that she is

[7:46] busy being a mom, Meline is picking her

[7:48] roles very carefully. And Mary and Bob,

[7:51] this one with Travolta is terrific. They

[7:53] have great chemistry together.

[7:54] >> You love this movie.

[7:55] >> Yeah, I think it's really good.

[7:56] >> Yeah. Okay. Thank you, Julie.

[7:58] >> The dress cost $5,000. The wedding took

[8:01] place during her downtime from ER.

[8:03] Coming up on ET, we're there as Juliana

[8:05] Margules ties the knot for her new

[8:07] movie.

[8:08] From Urkel to Betty and Dixie to Doogie,

[8:11] your roundup of well-known faces coming

[8:13] back to TV.

[8:15] The need to be skinny on soaps. What

[8:17] being thin means to daytime stardom and

[8:20] one actress who doesn't care. If I lose

[8:22] my fat, I don't lose my talent.

[8:24] >> That's next.

[8:29] >> You want high impact hair? Take this

[8:31] Vitav shampoo by L'Oreal. L'Oreal's

[8:33] multivitamin formula has B3, B5, and E

[8:37] for healthy hair with tons of strength,

[8:39] energy, and shine. Vitav by L'Oreal

[8:42] because they're worth it.

[8:45] >> Bye. I'll call when I get there.

[8:46] >> Bye, honey.

[8:47] >> Bye, Cara.

[8:50] >> Well, there she goes. Off to the big

[8:52] city.

[8:53] >> It's just you and me now.

[8:56] >> Got the tickets. Uh-huh.

[9:01] If you think a Walt Disney World

[9:02] vacation wouldn't be the same without

[9:04] the kids, you're absolutely right.

[9:07] >> My poor parents. I don't know what

[9:08] they'll do now.

[9:10] >> Call 1407 W Disney and make your dream

[9:13] come true.

[9:14] >> Quick can a makeup that's fast last and

[9:17] last. Yes, when it's new quick stick

[9:19] makeup by L'Oreal. The smooth, flawless,

[9:22] soft powder finish that feels light,

[9:24] never greasy. Because it's fast and it

[9:26] lasts. It's new quick stick makeup by

[9:28] L'Oreal and you're worth it.

[11:56] June 3rd at 8:00 p.m. on Coin TV. Great

[11:58] tickets are on sale now at all ticket

[12:00] master outlets.

[12:05] The TV promo debuting tonight on the WB

[12:08] shows off all the new young faces on the

[12:10] network's hot shows. But elsewhere

[12:12] around the dial, from Urkl to Doogie,

[12:14] Betty White to Dixie Carter, faces we

[12:17] know are returning.

[12:21] Looking for familiar faces in new

[12:23] places? CBS's Ladies Man is a good place

[12:25] to start. It stars NYPD Blues Sharon

[12:28] Lawrence, Empty Nest's Park Overall, TV

[12:30] icon Betty White, and designing women

[12:32] star Dixie Carter in a recurring role.

[12:34] Dueling grandmothers is what they are.

[12:37] >> I'd offer you some, but I know you

[12:39] prefer to hide your drinking from the

[12:40] children.

[12:41] >> Dixie's doing double duty on CBS this

[12:44] fall. Also starring in the legal drama

[12:46] Family Law, while David Ogden is married

[12:48] to Swoozie Curts in Love or Money.

[12:51] >> You had a little flame. Things happen.

[12:54] Not as often as one would like.

[12:57] >> Doogie Hower himself, Neil Patrick

[12:58] Harris, makes his return in NBC's Star

[13:01] Rating Mad opposite Wing star Tony

[13:03] Shaloo.

[13:04] >> We had a great time slot after Frasier

[13:06] and before er so we're sandwiched in

[13:07] there pretty nice.

[13:08] >> And Jul has put his days behind him to

[13:11] headline the UPN 20some comedy, The

[13:14] Grown-Ups.

[13:14] >> That age where you're a grown-up, but

[13:16] you don't feel like it. NYPD Blue

[13:18] veteran Amy Brenamman is producer and

[13:20] star of CBS's Judging Amy with Kagney

[13:22] and Lacy's Ty Daily, while sister star

[13:25] Card is a single mom starting over in

[13:28] ABC's Once and Again.

[13:30] >> I thought about him all afternoon. I I I

[13:32] wasn't ready.

[13:33] >> And former Picket Fences star Lauren

[13:35] Holly is set to join the cast of Chicago

[13:37] Hope, although little else is actually

[13:39] set.

[13:40] >> Come back. I'm going to be a doctor, I

[13:42] guess, or a nurse. I don't know. I'll be

[13:43] wearing scrubs, something.

[13:46] And as the new shows gear up for fall,

[13:48] it's already day two of a kinder,

[13:50] gentler Jerry Springer show. As we first

[13:53] reported to you last week, in light of

[13:55] concerns following events at Coline

[13:57] High, Springer agreed to pull the

[13:59] violence, which had become a daily

[14:00] staple of his program.

[14:02] >> Captain Kirk drinking, womanizing,

[14:05] rapping. Oh, it's hardly the captain

[14:07] that we placed our trust in on board the

[14:09] Enterprise, but that's the whole idea.

[14:12] >> I come to bury Caesar, not to praise

[14:14] him. No tears. Tears.

[14:18] >> Yep, that's William Shatner wrapping his

[14:20] way through Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

[14:22] It's just one way that he makes fun of

[14:24] himself in Free Enterprise.

[14:25] >> I'm either going to be the laughingtock

[14:27] of the business.

[14:29] Or it could be kind of tantalizing and

[14:33] interesting.

[14:34] >> Free Enterprise is about two pals,

[14:35] including Eric McCormack of Will and

[14:37] Grace, who idolize Star Trek's classic

[14:40] Captain. At first, Shatner wanted

[14:42] nothing of it. It was bizarre and I

[14:44] said, "Thank you very much. I I don't

[14:46] want to be in it." Well, I'm sorry.

[14:48] >> But the idea of mocking himself soon

[14:50] sounded highly logical.

[14:52] >> I'm one of the top 10 imaginary friends

[14:54] kids have. Just behind John Travolta.

[14:56] >> I get drunk. I smoke. I fall down. I

[14:59] chase girls.

[15:00] >> Well, perhaps you'd like to buy me a

[15:03] drink instead.

[15:04] >> No, not particularly.

[15:07] >> Ouch. Evil that men do lives after.

[15:10] Somehow he ends up doing Julius Caesar.

[15:12] Not just rapping, but playing all the

[15:14] parts.

[15:15] >> If you play both Caesar and Brutus,

[15:18] won't you have to stab yourself in the

[15:20] back?

[15:21] >> I've done it before.

[15:24] >> Free Enterprise. It opens in Los Angeles

[15:26] on Friday. And for more of our interview

[15:28] with William Shatner, just click on over

[15:30] to our ET website.

[15:32] >> Monica and Chandler became more than

[15:34] friends on their hit sitcom this season.

[15:36] But coming up, find out who the friend's

[15:38] surprise couple was really supposed to

[15:40] be.

[15:42] She soaps and weight in the

[15:43] Entertainment Tonight cover story. She

[15:45] lost 30 lbs. She lost her pregnancy

[15:48] weight. Now meet the daytime star who

[15:50] refuses to lose.

[15:52] >> Why ER's Juliana Margules has a new idea

[15:55] about what she'll wear to her own

[15:56] wedding.

[15:57] >> I think I'm going to wear red.

[15:59] >> Next on ET.

[16:09] the way nature intended.

[17:01] >> tonight at 7:30 on Coin TV 6.

[17:04] >> Dear Albertson's, a big thanks for

[17:06] solving my small problem. You see, I

[17:09] have an oldfashioned Coke machine that

[17:10] dispenses those tiny 8 oz bottles.

[17:13] They're never available at other

[17:14] supermarkets. Then one day, I filled out

[17:17] one of your special request cards. Soon

[17:19] after, Sha Vandersoff and Jim Van Bieber

[17:22] found some for us. We were thrilled, and

[17:25] there was no extra charge for our

[17:46] Thursday, June 3rd at 8:00 p.m. on Coin

[17:48] TV.

[17:50] >> There are no piranhas in

[17:56] >> on June 18th. We got a tiny little

[17:57] itsybitsy problem here.

[18:00] >> Walt Disney Pictures presents

[18:02] >> called me.

[18:03] >> No, not the game.

[18:05] >> The summer's biggest smash.

[18:10] >> Disney's Tarzan in theaters June 18th.

[18:14] >> Hang on tight.

[18:16] >> Rated G.

[18:18] >> That one hurt him.

[18:20] >> He scratches itchy cuts, then opens the

[18:22] cut to germs again. But ordinary

[18:23] ointments don't stop itch. Introducing

[18:25] new Gold Bond triple antibiotic

[18:27] ointment. Gold bond kills germs plus

[18:29] stops pain and itch while cuts heal.

[18:30] >> Gold bond is extra protection.

[18:32] >> Gold bond antibiotic ointment kills

[18:34] germs, stops itch.

[18:35] >> Goldbond foot powder is refreshing. It

[18:38] keeps my feet dry all day long.

[18:40] >> Triple Action Gold Bond medicated foot

[18:42] powder absorbs moisture, controls odor

[18:44] with baking soda, and stops foot itch.

[18:46] >> I love Gold Bond foot powder.

[18:47] >> Gold Bond foot powder. Three foot

[18:49] relievers in one. Tomorrow on

[18:51] Entertainment Tonight, Star Magazine

[18:53] picks the best and worst dress of the

[18:54] week. And guess which female singing

[18:56] stars were picked for the dreaded would

[18:58] you be caught dead in this outfit.

[19:01] Why this actress is hopping mad at Julia

[19:03] Roberts.

[19:05] >> She's the real Anna Scott and says

[19:08] sharing the name with Julia's Nodding

[19:09] Hill character could hurt her career.

[19:11] >> I've had some legal counsel.

[19:14] >> David James Elliot's bad date.

[19:16] >> What did I do? Behind the scenes on the

[19:18] new film that has Jag getting jolted and

[19:21] leaving Courtney Cox flat out in the

[19:23] flowers. That's tomorrow.

[19:26] >> While Courtney is off making her movie

[19:28] with Jag, her TV series is making

[19:30] headlines. See, it turns out Courtney's

[19:32] Friends romance with Matthew Perry

[19:34] wasn't the way things were supposed to

[19:35] be.

[19:37] >> We want to get married.

[19:38] >> The Friend's fifth season finale found

[19:41] Chandler and Monica racing into a Las

[19:43] Vegas wedding chapel right behind Ross

[19:45] and Rachel. But when the show started,

[19:47] another game plan was in place.

[19:49] >> The producers wanted to do another

[19:51] romance among two of the characters. It

[19:53] was originally supposed to be Monica and

[19:56] Joey.

[19:58] >> Love your condoms, my man.

[20:00] >> What scuttled the romance was Courtney

[20:02] Cox and Matt Leblanc's lively comedy.

[20:04] >> Can we cut?

[20:05] >> He began to grow a little bit of heart,

[20:07] less of a womanizer. And Courtney Cox,

[20:09] as Monica, showed this kind of great

[20:11] gift for for being a little bit crazy.

[20:15] something you'll kiss.

[20:17] >> The real summer cliffhanger is if the

[20:19] cast will sign up for more than their

[20:21] sixth season and pocket more than their

[20:23] reported salary of $100,000 each per

[20:26] episode. When you consider that the past

[20:29] five seasons alone is going to make a

[20:32] billion dollars in revenue, The Friends

[20:34] deserve a raise.

[20:36] >> That issue of Entertainment Weekly is on

[20:38] news stands right now. From the friends

[20:40] to another must-sea romance, fellow NBC

[20:43] star Juliana Margules from ER is taking

[20:46] her new movie relationship one big step

[20:48] further. She's tying the knot.

[20:51] >> Oh, it's right about now. I really wish

[20:52] I hadn't quit smoking.

[20:54] >> Juliana Marguly stars as a bride who's

[20:56] afraid she's about to be stood up at the

[20:58] altar in the romantic comedy we met on

[21:00] the vineyard.

[21:01] >> You know, it's customary that the bride

[21:03] not be seen before the ceremony. Please

[21:06] go back upstairs. It's also customary

[21:08] for the groom to show up on time. So,

[21:09] let's just keep the BS to a minimum.

[21:11] >> She wears a beautiful $5,000 wedding

[21:13] dress during the film, but it all but

[21:15] ruined her desire to walk down the aisle

[21:17] in such a gown at her own wedding.

[21:19] >> I always thought when I was when I was

[21:21] growing up that that my idea of a

[21:24] wedding dress would be this big floofy

[21:26] white thing, but after spending a month

[21:28] in it,

[21:30] I don't think so. I think I'm going to

[21:33] wear red.

[21:34] >> John, I am so sorry. I'm so sorry you

[21:37] had to find out like this. Ivan Sergey

[21:39] plays the fiance who learned she had a

[21:41] one-time indiscretion. And Juliana says

[21:44] their marriage on screen is worth

[21:46] waiting for.

[21:47] >> He's a doll and he's gorgeous. And I

[21:49] think that, you know, every woman in

[21:51] America will be jealous when they they

[21:52] see our wedding kiss.

[21:55] >> Juliana walks down the aisle and into

[21:57] theaters when We Met on the Vineyard

[21:59] comes out later this year.

[22:05] Since the beginning, actresses on soap

[22:07] operas have the look that you'd expect

[22:08] with their perfect figures. But now,

[22:11] three daytime stars with totally

[22:13] different looks talk about the pressure

[22:15] to maintain those too good to be true

[22:17] images in the Entertainment Tonight

[22:18] cover story.

[22:21] >> The image of the daytime soap star is

[22:23] thin, sleek, and slender. Personally, I

[22:26] would like it if if there was a mixture

[22:28] of shapes and sizes and they hired good

[22:31] instead of pretty and thin all the time.

[22:34] >> Nancy Lee Gron struggled with that image

[22:36] when she hid her pregnancy on General

[22:38] Hospital. And Allison Sweeney has often

[22:40] been criticized by Days of Our Lives

[22:42] fans for her figure, although she chose

[22:44] to lose 30 lbs for her health.

[22:46] >> Often times throughout my career here,

[22:48] I've gotten hate mail saying, you know,

[22:50] lose weight, you fat pig. And I mean,

[22:52] people are cool. Fasten your seat belts,

[22:55] folks. This ride could be bumpy.

[22:58] >> Sweeny's co-star Patrika Daro knows that

[23:00] she breaks the mold when it comes to the

[23:02] image of the daytime diva. On the soap,

[23:04] she has a slim, hunky husband, and the

[23:07] fans are crazy about her.

[23:08] >> My talent is not based on my size. The

[23:11] fat in my body does not store my talent.

[23:13] If I lose my fat, I don't lose my

[23:14] talent.

[23:16] >> Darbo has received a lot of positive fan

[23:18] mail from those who see her as a role

[23:20] model. Some of them say, "I would look

[23:21] at daytime and just think that that was

[23:23] a fairy tale world, but suddenly you've

[23:25] made it possible for me to be there,

[23:27] too."

[23:27] >> That fairy tale world got another dose

[23:29] of reality when Susan Luchi finally won

[23:31] a daytime Emmy on her 19th try for a

[23:34] plot about an eating disorder.

[23:36] >> Can you go ahead, sweetheart? You just

[23:37] whispered to me.

[23:38] >> The story line that Susan Luchi won an

[23:40] Emmy for was the intervention for her

[23:42] daughter, Bianca, who had anorexia. And

[23:44] I think it's incredible that daytime is

[23:45] bringing that forward and saying, "Look,

[23:47] this is not a good thing. They'd never

[23:48] pair us together, would they?

[23:50] >> And if daytime TV is beginning to

[23:52] rethink thin, Patrika's soap squeeze,

[23:55] Kevin Spiritis, says it's about time.

[23:57] >> First day we had a love scene, I grabbed

[23:59] her leg, threw it over my my my leg. I

[24:01] said, "Come on, mama. Come to papa." And

[24:03] she screams out, "He grabbed me like a

[24:04] size two." I said, "Darling, there's

[24:06] more to grab. It's okay."

[24:08] The soap opera image issue hit home to

[24:11] General Hospital's Nancy Lee Gron during

[24:13] a recent daytime convention when a full

[24:15] one out of every three women wanted to

[24:17] talk about her weight. And we'll be

[24:19] right back.

[24:22] >> Which 1989 best actor Oscar nominee was

[24:25] in the movie that won for best picture?

[24:27] Is it Tom Cruz, Robin Williams, or

[24:29] Morgan Freeman? Your answer is next in

[30:34] We'll have it for you tonight at 11.

[30:39] >> This is Real TV, your number one source

[30:42] for video.

[30:44] Air show disaster. The plane is coming

[30:47] down too fast.

[30:51] The angry river swallows the land and

[30:54] the houses, too.

[30:57] The mom who took her little boy to the

[30:59] laundromat so he could rob the washing

[31:02] machines.

[31:04] And the kids and their fullscale attack

[31:06] on the vending machine.

[31:09] Plus the gator with good taste.

[31:12] >> He has to watch real TV.

[31:13] >> Whatever you do, don't blink. It's time

[31:16] for real TV.

[31:25] Hi, I'm John Daly and we begin with a

[31:27] horrible plane crash at an air show. The

[31:29] military tries to show off its best, but

[31:31] as our Sabila Vargas shows you, disaster

[31:33] strikes in front of thousands of people.

[31:37] >> At Fort Bragg in North Carolina,

[31:40] thousands of spectators are enjoying a

[31:42] military air show. Little do they know

[31:45] that in moments they will see something

[31:47] they'll never forget.

[31:49] It's a lead C130.

[31:51] >> A C130 cargo plane begins its approach.

[31:54] It's demonstrating a method for

[31:55] delivering heavy fighting equipment by

[31:57] parachute.

[32:00] >> But the plane's descent is too steep.

[32:16] Ladies and gentlemen, please stay in

[32:18] your blade. We need fire at the end of

[32:21] the drop zone.

[32:23] >> Ladies and gentlemen, please stay.

[32:26] >> Cameraman Michael White shot this tape

[32:28] of a horrifying crash. He couldn't

[32:30] believe what he was seeing

[32:32] >> as he began his descent. And I'm looking

[32:34] through the viewfinder. I'm thinking,

[32:35] "This guy's coming in too steep." But

[32:38] stay with it. He knows what he's doing

[32:39] better than I know what he's doing, I

[32:41] suppose. Stay with it. He's done this

[32:42] probably 100 times before. He's going to

[32:44] be able to manage it. And as he came in

[32:45] and as I'm watching the load coming out

[32:47] of the back of the plane, all of a

[32:48] sudden, this massive kathump, this

[32:51] massive sound that I'm not sure I've

[32:53] ever heard before or even can describe.

[32:55] But once I heard the the sound of the

[32:57] crash, I took my eye off the viewfinder

[32:59] to see what was that sound and saw that

[33:01] the plane had actually belly flopped and

[33:03] then jerk the camera back to make sure I

[33:04] followed it down the line.

[33:07] He skidded, skidded, skidded hundreds of

[33:09] yards. It seemed seemed like for 10

[33:11] minutes he skidded down the runway and

[33:13] all of a sudden a massive explosion, a

[33:15] massive black ball of smoke rising up

[33:18] from the tree line. We knew that we had

[33:20] a major catastrophe when we saw the size

[33:22] of a fireball.

[33:24] >> Sadly, three of the plane's six crew

[33:27] members perish in this terrible crash,

[33:29] including the pilot. An army man on the

[33:32] ground is also killed. But the miracle

[33:34] on this day is that three of the plane's

[33:36] crew actually survived the devastating

[33:38] accident.

[33:39] >> Please return to your bleachers. We need

[33:42] fire equipment at the end of the drop

[33:44] zone.

[33:49] >> Still, the disaster leaves spectators

[33:52] stunned. All they can do is try their

[33:54] best to comfort each other.

[33:56] >> Even hardened military men on the scene

[33:59] can't hide their emotions.

[34:07] And as experienced as he is, Michael too

[34:10] is shaken by the tragedy.

[34:12] >> I was devastated by it. I once I finally

[34:15] cut the roll button off the camera and

[34:16] sat down for a minute. You know, I I too

[34:19] wanted at least a minute of privacy and

[34:21] and let me understand, let me grief for

[34:24] a minute at least for these people that

[34:26] were lost before we have to get up and

[34:28] start rolling the camera again. A tragic

[34:30] day at Fort Bragg, but Michael says

[34:32] things would have been a lot worse if

[34:34] the pilot hadn't had the presence of

[34:36] mind to keep his plane from careening

[34:38] into the crowd of spectators.

[34:40] >> In my mind and in the minds of many

[34:42] people who were there, this guy was a

[34:44] hero. Without without his skill, without

[34:47] his training, without his courage,

[34:50] hundreds of people would have died.

[34:56] >> Now, we've obtained a copy of the

[34:57] official Air Force report on the crash.

[34:59] It says there was no mechanical failure

[35:01] or any foreign object, but it stopped

[35:03] short of blaming the crew. Well, you're

[35:06] about to see incredible tape of a raging

[35:08] river as it changes the landscape

[35:10] forever. But people and their homes are

[35:12] in the way, and it makes for a

[35:14] heartbreaking scene.

[35:17] Panicked residents run for their lives

[35:18] in Anime, Colombia.

[35:21] The once tranquil river has turned into

[35:24] a raging torrent of destruction.

[35:34] The powerful river easily swallows up

[35:36] trees and earth. Now it's coming

[35:38] dangerously close to several homes.

[35:42] Horrified residents can only pray

[35:44] they'll be spared. But today, those

[35:46] prayers won't be answered.

[35:55] First part of the foundation goes. A

[35:57] family's dream teeters on the brink as

[35:59] the earth crumbles.

[36:03] >> Suddenly, a giant rumble.

[36:11] >> Luckily, the owners knew about the

[36:13] impending disaster and had piled their

[36:15] belongings on the street.

[36:20] The river continues roaring through the

[36:21] village, leaving a muddy mess behind.

[36:25] >> An incredible show of strength as

[36:27] cameras capture mother nature's fury.

[36:31] How horrible seeing your house go like

[36:33] that. Well, the vandals in this next

[36:35] series of tapes never thought anyone was

[36:37] watching them. But they never counted on

[36:39] a hidden video camera to capture their

[36:41] every move.

[36:43] Since most people don't usually have a

[36:45] lookout when they do their laundry, this

[36:47] surveillance footage caught the eye of

[36:48] laundromat owner Fred Wilharm.

[36:51] >> On this tape, um, one person stands

[36:53] lookout in the front door while the guy

[36:57] there has his arm stuck up inside the

[36:59] soda machine far enough to um, get free

[37:02] drinks. That's what he's up to.

[37:04] Meanwhile, this guy over here is pulling

[37:08] a video game out and trying to get the

[37:10] back door off to get the money. But when

[37:12] he gets the back door off, he's going to

[37:14] find that it's not accessible from the

[37:15] back, only from the front. My first

[37:18] reaction to the tape was probably

[37:19] outrage, but after that, it there was a

[37:21] little satisfaction just in knowing that

[37:23] I had the tape and was able to give it

[37:24] to the police.

[37:25] >> Fred owned several stores and hit

[37:28] cameras in each, catching people doing

[37:30] things they shouldn't.

[37:31] >> This is a group of juveniles who um use

[37:34] a different method to try and get free

[37:36] sodas out of the machine. Basically, the

[37:37] karate method.

[37:45] and they kick the machine and kick it

[37:48] again until it spills its contents. They

[37:50] pretty much have no mercy on it.

[37:53] >> At this store, it was a young boy who

[37:54] was the center of attention.

[37:56] >> This little guy came in the laundromat

[37:58] with his mother and he's learned that he

[38:00] can actuate the mechanism somehow and

[38:02] get enough quarters out to buy all the

[38:05] bubble gum he wants.

[38:06] >> But it's not always the kids who were

[38:08] caught on tape. Here's a grown man who

[38:09] learned how to put a little static cling

[38:11] on his $5 bills at the change machine.

[38:14] >> I don't know how he did this because the

[38:15] machines have safeguards in them to

[38:18] prevent this. But he was able to put

[38:20] this $5 bill in this machine repeatedly

[38:22] and empty it. You can hear him saying

[38:25] the words ding ding ding as the money

[38:27] falls out and you can hear the money

[38:29] actually falling.

[38:32] >> Other times money is taken the more

[38:34] convenient way. This guy somehow

[38:36] acquired a key to my machines and was

[38:38] nice enough to come in and collect for

[38:40] me on a daily basis.

[38:42] >> Fred's happy to say that he hasn't had

[38:43] many problems in his laundromats lately.

[38:46] But if you're thinking of taking Fred to

[38:47] the cleaners anytime soon, he has a word

[38:49] of warning for you.

[38:53] >> You're going to be on tape. The tape is

[38:55] rolling and I'm going to give that tape

[38:58] either to the police or to someone like

[39:00] Real TV. And if the police don't get

[39:02] you, Real TV will.

[39:04] Coming up,

[39:06] >> the parents are fed up.

[39:08] >> First of all, I'm telling you, I'm going

[39:09] to do it.

[39:10] >> They're interviewing a hitman to kill

[39:12] their own son.

[39:14] >> They felt that there's no other

[39:15] alternative.

[39:16] >> Later,

[39:19] home video of a skater with an attitude.

[39:23] If I hit you because you fall in

[39:26] >> and pictures from inside the implosion.

[39:31] >> Plus that baby pet alligator. You know

[39:35] where all the other shows get their

[39:36] tapes from?

[39:38] >> They watch real TV.

[39:43] >> My grandson's a cute kid, but one tough

[39:45] businessman. Hey buddy, how about to fix

[39:48] my car?

[39:49] >> Upfront pricing. What do you think this

[39:51] is, mister? That GM good service plus.

[39:56] >> What a kid. Got upfront pricing plus

[39:58] lifetime guarantee on parts and labor

[40:00] plus courtesy transportation.

[40:03] GM good service plus. The little guy was

[40:06] right.

[40:07] >> So, plus means better.

[40:09] >> Call for the select GM dealer near you.

[40:14] >> Hey,

[40:16] >> what are you doing up here?

[40:17] >> So, you've been using 1010 321. What?

[40:20] >> Oh, I keep forgetting about that.

[40:34] see the savings on your phone bill.

[40:35] >> All right, I'll give it a try.

[40:37] >> Cool. Hey, get away from my car.

[40:40] >> Just dial 1010321.

[42:15] >> The only place to see the world's

[42:18] scariest, the world's wildest, and the

[42:21] world's most shocking tapes every day.

[42:24] Real TV.

[42:26] >> Welcome back. It is one of the most

[42:28] shocking tapes we've ever received here

[42:29] at Real TV. The parents of a teenage boy

[42:32] plotting to have him killed. And it all

[42:35] unfolds on tape.

[42:39] The married couple in this car isn't

[42:41] just out for an afternoon drive. They're

[42:43] here in a Phoenix, Arizona parking lot

[42:46] to hire a hitman. And the person they

[42:48] want murdered is their teenage son.

[42:51] >> Hello.

[42:52] >> Hi. How you doing?

[42:53] >> What they don't know is that the tough-

[42:55] looking character they're here to hire

[42:57] is really an undercover cop. And the

[42:59] whole sort of deal is going down on

[43:02] videotape. But why do they want to have

[43:05] their teenage son killed? Well, his

[43:07] parents say he's a troublemaker and his

[43:10] antics are about to get them evicted

[43:12] from their home.

[43:16] >> Must be a pretty lavish home then,

[43:17] right? Wrong. Mom and pop live in this

[43:20] modest mobile home in a mobile home

[43:22] park. But their mobile home is their

[43:24] castle and to them it's enough to kill

[43:27] for. first time.

[43:29] >> The supposed hitman, undercover

[43:31] detective Jack Valentine, agreed to

[43:33] explain this amazing case to me as long

[43:35] as we kept his face hidden.

[43:37] >> They actually wanted you to kill their

[43:39] son.

[43:40] >> That's exactly what they wanted to have

[43:41] done.

[43:42] >> Why?

[43:43] >> When they asked their son to leave and

[43:44] he refused to leave, they felt that they

[43:46] were at their end of the rope and there

[43:48] was no other alternative but to have him

[43:50] killed. And if he was killed, then they

[43:52] could say, "Well, my son doesn't live

[43:53] there any longer, so now I don't have to

[43:54] be a victim." stereo.

[43:56] >> In payment for the murder, the parents

[43:58] offered Jack a $1,000 stereo.

[44:00] Ironically, it was a gift they gave

[44:02] their son last Christmas.

[44:04] >> Is it any good?

[44:11] >> Jack negotiates a better price for the

[44:13] hit. The stereo plus $1,000 cash.

[44:16] >> Okay, you give me the stereo stereo,

[44:19] bucks.

[44:20] >> Then how much more am I going to

[44:22] >> whatever?

[44:24] I want

[44:25] >> with the fee settled, Jack gives these

[44:27] pathetic parents one last chance. He

[44:29] figures if he describes how he's going

[44:31] to kill their son, maybe they'll

[44:33] reconsider.

[44:35] >> But they don't.

[44:35] >> Do it. You want to do it?

[44:38] >> Okay. Can you tell me if since you're

[44:40] paying the money, you tell me if this is

[44:42] okay. Cuz what I'm going to do is I'm

[44:43] going to shoot.

[44:46] >> No. You tell me again where I'm supposed

[44:48] to shoot.

[44:50] Okay. Okay. I'll shoot. But I'm going to

[44:53] shoot him in the head.

[44:55] All right.

[44:57] And you guys could have been doing some

[44:58] serious warning.

[45:02] >> Well, they better bother. You better

[45:04] get

[45:07] him.

[45:08] >> They're going to find him. That happens.

[45:10] You know,

[45:13] >> I don't want to carry him around with

[45:14] me.

[45:15] >> You know what I'm saying?

[45:16] >> I know.

[45:17] >> By now, the cops have heard more than

[45:19] enough from this murderous mom and dad,

[45:21] and they move in for the bust.

[45:26] window.

[45:29] Get your hands out the window.

[45:39] >> Jack slips away during the arrest, but

[45:41] there's one last part to this sad story.

[45:44] >> Did you end up speaking to the son?

[45:46] >> I I did. I spoke to him that evening.

[45:48] >> What was his reaction?

[45:50] >> Devastated. He said, "You know, I know

[45:53] I'm not a good boy, but

[45:57] I'm not that bad that they have to kill

[45:59] me."

[46:01] Hard to believe. Now, the parents are

[46:02] each serving 15-year sentences for

[46:04] conspiracy to commit murder. We'll be

[46:07] right back.

[46:09] Still ahead, does his mom know what he's

[46:12] doing in his spare time?

[46:15] And now you see it,

[46:18] now you don't.

[46:21] Plus, the gator that eats pizza. Stick

[46:24] around.

[46:30] >> There's nothing like a place that gives

[46:31] you something extra for nothing extra. A

[46:34] place with a warm smile, good food, and

[46:36] great value. And there's nothing like

[46:38] your Northwest McDonald's for the 99

[46:41] cent big and tasty sandwich. A juicy

[46:43] quarter pound beef patty with leaf

[46:45] lettuce, ripe tomato, and onion. Or get

[46:47] the big and tasty extra value meal with

[46:49] large fries and a medium soft drink for

[46:51] just $2.99. There's nothing like a quick

[46:54] drive-thru in a friendly place that's

[46:56] everywhere. Did somebody say McDonald's

[46:59] >> Fairbank today? Hello. One of us is

[47:01] being transferred to Alaska.

[47:03] >> Ooh,

[47:04] >> I don't know. I I lost the call. Can't

[47:06] be us. We closed the Miami deal. Right.

[48:11] home to the steelhead.

[48:20] giving back to Oregon by the Grand Ron

[48:22] Tribe and Spirit Mountain Community

[48:24] Fund.

[48:29] >> You're watching Real TV.

[48:33] Well, they are skaters with attitude and

[48:36] nobody gets in their way. Not even cars

[48:38] speeding by. Our special correspondent,

[48:40] Scott the X-Man, is on hand for one

[48:43] nasty confrontation.

[48:46] >> Short dude, big attitude.

[48:49] >> None of you guys have ever injured

[48:50] yourself from that.

[48:52] >> With skater Shane McCauley, expect the

[48:55] unexpected.

[49:04] Hours of raw home video revealed that

[49:07] this ain't your average 13-year-old.

[49:08] He's a player.

[49:10] >> Oh yeah.

[49:17] >> Just months before we caught up with

[49:18] him, Shane's buddies in conquered

[49:20] California were already rolling tape on

[49:22] this little disaster waiting to happen.

[49:28] >> Watch and you'll know what I mean.

[49:31] It's rush hour and a busy street corner

[49:33] is too tempting. Shane and his friends

[49:36] want to give this major obstacle a try.

[49:39] >> Shane lets his friend go first. A car

[49:43] nearly hits him, but the skater pulls it

[49:45] off.

[49:46] >> I nearly got hit.

[49:48] >> Things change when our man Shane gives

[49:50] it a whirl. He eats it big time.

[49:53] >> Are you all right?

[49:54] >> Shane's hurt, but a passing driver is

[49:57] raging mad. If I hit you because you

[49:59] fall into

[50:00] >> Don't hit us.

[50:01] >> No idea.

[50:02] >> Plain and simple.

[50:03] >> He's got a mind of his own and a mouth

[50:05] that just won't quit.

[50:07] >> What?

[50:09] >> Look, a driver at risk. The traffic is

[50:11] going that way. I turned up there,

[50:12] turned around and came back. No, I

[50:14] turned around and came back

[50:16] >> because because had one car right there

[50:21] because of you pulls over and hits the

[50:23] other damn car. How dare you? Is this a

[50:26] case of parents just don't understand or

[50:28] does Shane simply lack respect?

[50:31] >> Worth something. Mine is worth

[50:33] something.

[50:34] >> Oh, dope. Let me see that.

[50:35] >> Really should be, young man. It should

[50:38] be

[50:38] >> not young.

[50:38] >> Your life should really car. You should

[50:41] care about

[50:41] >> Well, we didn't get hit.

[50:42] >> I'm 12.

[50:43] >> I asked Shane oneonone to explain what's

[50:46] with the bad attitude.

[50:47] >> Well, I can understand like if they told

[50:49] me to stop doing it, if it was their

[50:50] property or anything or if it was any of

[50:52] their business, but it wasn't. She was

[50:54] just trying to be smart.

[50:56] >> Look at your arm.

[50:56] >> He's 12. He's supposed to do stuff like

[50:58] that.

[50:58] >> I'm bleeding. They're quick.

[51:00] >> Maybe the lady was just trying to give

[51:02] Shane some smarts.

[51:03] >> Another adult.

[51:06] >> You don't get it. You don't get it.

[51:08] >> You don't get it.

[51:10] >> He may not be the poster child for

[51:12] manners

[51:14] >> or brains,

[51:16] but you got to admit this bad boy can

[51:19] skate.

[51:21] Crazy

[51:29] or not, Shane wears absolutely no

[51:32] protective padding. So what's the point?

[51:34] Pants just mess with his mind. Shame

[51:37] smooth as a baby's bottom and just as

[51:39] explosive. John Scott, thank you very

[51:42] much. Well, now here's a look at what

[51:44] we're working on for the next Real TV.

[51:46] Be here for Real TV tomorrow. We've got

[51:49] the incredible tape of the snake that

[51:51] thinks he's going to eat the gator. And

[51:53] the horse that's stuck in the mud and

[51:55] won't budge. Plus, the shot that was two

[51:58] in a million. That's tomorrow.

[52:02] Well, it's a lot easier to tear

[52:03] something down than to build it up. And

[52:05] a lot more fun, too. Watch as a St.

[52:08] Louis landmark is reduced to rubble.

[52:11] >> It's been a landmark in St. Louis for

[52:13] almost 70 years, but the arena is about

[52:16] to be blasted to bits. 5

[52:20] 3

[52:22] fire.

[52:39] 12 seconds and 133 lbs of TNT is all it

[52:43] takes to turn the exhibition hall into a

[52:45] heap of concrete, smashed seats, and

[52:48] twisted steel.

[52:50] Several cameras record the historic

[52:52] moment. But here's something you rarely

[52:55] see. Pictures from inside as the

[52:57] behemoth is obliterated.

[53:06] The operation goes flawlessly and the

[53:09] arena's final moments are immortalized

[53:11] on video.

[53:17] Gone for good. Well, now for the gator

[53:20] with good taste. It's home video of one

[53:22] man's unusual pet and his favorite show.

[53:27] >> Andrew Olivo of Jervis, Oregon, sent us

[53:30] this tape of his unusual pet.

[53:33] Not that it's so unusual to have an

[53:35] alligator for a pet, but So the

[53:37] alligator has some really strange

[53:39] habits.

[53:41] For one, he's developed the taste for

[53:43] dental floss.

[53:48] >> Oh, you're not supposed to eat that.

[53:50] Give me that back. Come on.

[53:54] Come on.

[53:55] >> He also enjoys an occasional slice of

[53:57] pizza.

[54:00] But what So really likes to sink his

[54:02] teeth into is an episode of Real TV. Now

[54:06] that's a reptile with good taste.

[54:08] >> He has to watch real TV and and and

[54:11] learn how to be a an alligator there and

[54:14] how to roar and bellow. It's his

[54:16] favorite show.

[54:17] >> He may act like an alligator, but he

[54:19] dresses like he's human. I wonder if he

[54:21] has any alligator shoes to go with that

[54:23] hat.

[54:26] >> Well, here's one more tape for you to

[54:28] enjoy. It's today's Real TV quiz.

[54:32] >> They say romance is back in style.

[54:34] >> Take a look at the actress in this 1983

[54:36] perfume commercial.

[54:39] >> She's done more than 50 films and has

[54:41] been called Queen of the TV movies.

[54:43] >> Terribly romantic.

[54:44] >> In 1993, she starred in a hit drama

[54:46] series that ran for 5 years. Tell us who

[54:50] she is and the name of her show.

[54:53] >> We'll have the answer when we come back.
