[0:28] Good morning. I'm Charles Osgood and
[0:30] this is Sunday morning, Easter Sunday
[0:32] morning. For hundreds of millions of
[0:35] Christians around the world, this is a
[0:37] day of awe commemorating the central
[0:39] miracle of their religion. An empty
[0:42] tomb, empty because he who had been laid
[0:44] out in it three days before on this day
[0:47] rose up from the dead. For half the
[0:49] faithful, however, the awe and joy of
[0:51] this and other holy days are mixed with
[0:53] questions about their place in the
[0:55] family of the church. That is because
[0:57] half the faithful are women. Our cover
[1:00] story this morning will be reported by
[1:02] Jacqueline Adams.
[1:05] >> For almost 2,000 years, the Catholic
[1:08] Church has excluded women from the
[1:10] priesthood. That tradition has eroded
[1:13] many people's faith. Increasingly,
[1:15] however, the church hierarchy has begun
[1:18] to share power, to let women perform
[1:21] more and more of the tasks previously
[1:23] assigned only to men. Later on Sunday
[1:27] Morning, we'll explore why this change
[1:29] is occurring and whether it's happening
[1:32] quickly enough.
[1:34] >> Where the Star of David is the symbol of
[1:36] faith, another momentous event of long
[1:38] ago is being remembered this week, the
[1:41] Exodus from Egypt of an enslaved people.
[1:44] That exodus was not Mark Shagal's
[1:46] subject explicitly, but joy and freedom
[1:49] were his subjects. As Richard Thrrell
[1:52] will show us later in the course of a
[1:53] glorious visit to a painted world
[1:58] with Terrence Smith,
