[0:00] Yes, we'll see you at 6:00.
[0:05] >> On World News tonight this Thursday in
[0:07] fear of snow and small miracles amid the
[0:10] devastation.
[0:12] In Jasper, Texas, John King gets the
[0:13] death sentence and there's no remorse.
[0:17] Why don't gun companies make guns that
[0:19] are safer? A simple lock that might make
[0:21] a difference.
[0:22] And a closer look at bugs and drugs
[0:26] which sometimes means losing the battle
[0:28] against certain germs.
[0:37] >> From ABC News world headquarters in New
[0:40] York,
[0:41] this is World News tonight with Peter

[0:44] >> Good evening. We're going to begin in
[0:45] avalanche country tonight, which means

[0:51] Europe alone have caused 52 people to
[0:53] die and life to be turned upside down
[0:56] for hundreds of thousands.
[0:59] >> In Switzerland, 100,000 people are
[1:01] stranded at some of the world's most

[1:05] and Davos. 12,000 people had to be
[1:07] evacuated by helicopter from two resorts
[1:10] because the roads are blocked and so are
[1:12] the famously reliable Swiss railways. In
[1:15] Austria tonight, 20,000 tourists are
[1:18] stranded. ABC's Jim Wooten reports from
[1:21] Austria that snow has gone from being a
[1:23] source of winter pleasure to being a
[1:25] reason for fear.
[1:29] >> This is the village of Balzur. And this
[1:32] is what an avalanche can do. A path of
[1:34] devastation the width of two football
[1:37] fields. Houses and hotels destroyed.
[1:40] People buried down there. And today,
[1:43] from this white nightmare, a wonder.
[1:47] On this helicopter, a 4-year-old boy
[1:50] from that same village, clinically dead
