[0:00] smart to try to fill that void. There

[0:02] really only two candidates there that I

[0:04] can see right now. One is Brownback, the

[0:05] other is Mitt Romney, Massachusetts.

[0:07] Very interesting candidate. People are

[0:09] talking about will evangelicals support

[0:11] a Mormon candidate. A discussion, by the

[0:13] way, we didn't have when his father, a

[0:15] Mormon, ran many, many

[0:17] >> ords

[0:23] going to grab the evangelical and

[0:25] conservative heart? Well, we don't know

[0:26] that. So Brownback has as good a chance

[0:28] as anyone of occup is going to have a

[0:30] special problem getting you because he

[0:32] was pro-choice when he first ran.

[0:34] >> Yes. He's got Massachusetts. He's got a

[0:36] flip-flop problem and he does have the

[0:38] Mormon issue

[0:39] >> and and conservatives just love my home

[0:40] state of Massachusetts. [laughter]

[0:42] >> Exactly.

[0:43] >> No, no, look. Brownback is is an

[0:45] evangelical uh Christian. He would fit

[0:48] right into that. The Iowa caucus goes on

[0:50] the Republican side. I think he he's

[0:53] he's someone that you should look at in

[0:54] terms of the early states. Uh he's

[0:56] someone that I believe has broad-based

[0:58] appeal. You forgot to mention new Gendri

[1:00] who I consider to be a conservative as

[1:01] well and he's and he's thinking about

[1:03] Ry.

[1:03] >> Is he serious about that or is he just

[1:05] going to keep the speaking fees and book

[1:07] books in [laughter]

[1:07] >> I think he's serious. I think he's

[1:09] serious and he'll be really interested.

[1:11] I want him in all those debates. I

[1:12] actually think he'll challenge all these

[1:14] other candidates in a very useful way.

[1:16] >> I think he's as serious as he thinks he

[1:17] is viable and when when Allen clearly

[1:20] becomes not the likely front runner that

[1:22] just it created this incredible opening

[1:24] and they all see opportun imploded.

[1:27] >> Donna, let me ask you a question that

[1:28] plays off of of of Governor Romney. I

[1:30] mean, you've heard some voices in the in

[1:32] the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day

[1:34] Saints. They're they're worried about

[1:36] having a Mormon out there. Are you

[1:38] hearing similar concerns in the black

[1:40] community about Barack Obama uh as as he

[1:43] contemplates a run?

[1:45] >> Well, you know, I' I've heard from a

[1:47] number of people um about his chances.

[1:50] They many African-American leaders would

[1:52] like to see him stay in the Senate. He's

[1:53] the only African-American in the Senate

[1:55] right now. They would like him to get a

[1:56] little bit more experience under his

[1:58] belt, a little bit more uh legislative

[2:00] success perhaps, but you know, all

[2:02] throughout the country, people are

[2:03] hungry for somebody who can sort of

[2:05] bridge all of these divides. And he

[2:07] feels some insatable appetite out there

[2:10] for a leader who can, you know, appeal

[2:12] to Republicans and Democrats.

[2:13] >> When Senator Brownback was talking about

[2:15] one of these meetings he's going to

[2:16] have, he said, "And Senator Obama's

[2:18] coming to [laughter]

[2:21] dinner all over." But the question is

[2:23] how long does that last and how can he

[2:25] effectively run against Hillary Clinton?

[2:28] >> I think he can run very effectively

[2:30] against Hillary Clinton. There is a body

[2:31] of opinion in the party that has doubts

[2:33] about Hillary Clinton's ability to win

[2:35] even if they like her. And so Obama part

[2:38] of the Obama boom is about finding an

[2:40] alternative to Hillary Clinton. But part

[2:42] of it is he is a genuinely compelling

[2:44] figure. He is very smart. I don't think

[2:46] anybody disagrees on that. He clearly

[2:48] drew all the crowds as Dick Durban uh

[2:50] talked about. that I actually think a

[2:52] Clinton Obama contest might be very good

[2:55] for the Democratic party. It'll

[2:56] certainly be good for us. That's right.

[2:58] [laughter]

[2:59] >> A lot of Al Gore yet.

[3:01] >> Okay. Well, you heard it there first.

[3:03] >> Thank you all very much. They're going

[3:04] to continue in the green room. You can

[3:05] check it out later on abcnews.com. And

[3:08] coming up, Sunday Funnies and Maggie

[3:10] Riser

[3:12] >> with AIDS. Why doesn't everyone

[3:13] understand [music] what you can do to

[3:15] protect yourself and how you can, you

[3:17] know, keep yourself safe?

[3:21] Hey, you got Singular?

[3:23] >> No. Sprint.

[3:24] >> Sprint mobile broadband downloads five

[3:27] times faster than Singular's Edge.

[3:30] >> Well, I'm done.

[3:30] >> Because in business, it pays to keep

[3:32] moving.

[3:38] Get the power of the nation's largest

[3:40] mobile broadband network.

[3:44] Get a free mobile broadband card. Visit

[3:46] sprint.com/mobile

[3:47] broadband. Sprint. Power up.

[3:51] >> A lot of people have trouble sleeping,

[3:53] but they don't all [music] have the same

[3:55] trouble. Some can't turn off and stay

[3:57] awake for hours. Others turn off right

[3:59] away, but wake up again later. Many

[4:01] people have both problems. That's why

[4:04] people are asking their [music] doctors

[4:05] for control release formula ambient CR.

[4:08] The latest ambient. It's the only one

[4:10] with two layers that work differently.

[4:12] One dissolves [music] quickly to help

[4:13] you fall asleep fast. The other

[4:15] dissolves slowly to help you stay

[4:17] asleep. Ambient CR is a treatment option

[4:19] you and your doctor can consider along

[4:21] with lifestyle [music] changes and can

[4:22] be taken for as long as your doctor

[4:24] recommends. Until you know how ambient

[4:25] CR will affect you, you shouldn't drive

[4:27] or operate [music] machinery. Be sure

[4:29] you're able to devote 7 to 8 hours to

[4:30] sleep before being active again. Side

[4:32] effects may include next day drowsiness,

[4:33] [music]

[4:34] dizziness, and headache. It's

[4:35] non-narcotic. However, like most sleep

[4:37] medicines, it has some risk of

[4:38] dependency. Don't take it with alcohol.

[4:40] A good night's [music] sleep shouldn't

[4:41] be an onoff thing. Falling asleep and

[4:43] staying asleep can make a big

[4:45] difference. So ask [music] your doctor

[4:46] about control release formula and CR.

[4:49] Remember CR Wednesday, two partners.

[4:53] >> I said something too.

[4:54] >> Whose futures depend on each other's

[4:56] survival.

[9:47] produced? The truth about organics. What

[9:50] you don't see at the store. The special

[9:51] series breaks Monday [music] on World

[9:53] News with Charles Gibson.

[9:56] Our voice this week, Maggie Riser.

[10:02] One of the world's top models. She's now

[10:04] moving behind the camera to film a

[10:06] documentary on AIDS. Heading into World

[10:08] AIDS Day this week, more than 28 million

[10:10] people have died from the epidemic,

[10:13] including Maggie's father. basically

[10:15] since as long as I can remember. Uh I

[10:18] knew that my dad had HIV. My sister and

[10:20] I grew up knowing it. My parents both

[10:22] talked openly about it. I was always

[10:24] expecting him to die. I knew it was

[10:26] inevitable, but I think when it came

[10:28] down to it, you're never prepared for

[10:30] it. I'm sad that we're still, you know,

[10:33] here dealing with this disease. I wish

[10:36] we could um I wish it wasn't here. So,

[10:38] what are you supposed to be using if

[10:41] >> I hope on World AIDS Day people I think

[10:44] I hope schools celebrate it and you know

[10:47] talk to their students about it. Um talk

[10:49] openly about it. With AIDS you can you

[10:53] be aware, be safe. Um protect yourself.

[10:56] Use condoms. Um don't share needles.

[11:00] It's just like putting your seatelt on

[11:01] when you get in a car. you know, you

[11:03] take care of yourself because if you're

[11:04] not looking out for yourself, I mean,

[11:07] nobody else is. Think about your mother

[11:09] or your dad or your best friend and

[11:10] think about not having them there

[11:12] because that's what this disease is

[11:14] doing to people everywhere all across

[11:15] the world. It happened to me. My, you

[11:17] know, I lost my my father, the person,

[11:19] you know, that, you know, helped raise

[11:21] me. And I think people should try and

[11:25] just take one second and think about

[11:27] losing the most important person in your

[11:29] life and knowing it was caused by a

[11:31] disease that you know is preventable.

[11:36] >> You can hear more Maggie Riser and the

[11:38] rest of today's broadcast on our

[11:40] website. Just go to abcnews.com and

[11:41] click this week. And now the Sunday

[11:44] funnies.

[11:45] >> Oh, you hear what happened in Argentina?

[11:47] Uh first daughter Barbara Bush had her

[11:49] purse stolen. You hear about this?

[11:51] >> Yeah. Yeah, she's eating at a

[11:52] restaurant. Somebody snatches her purse.

[11:54] You know the sad part? You know what was

[11:55] in that purse? Her father's plan for

[11:57] Iraq.

[12:00] Now we have to start all over again.

[12:06] Senator John K's in the news. Senator

[12:07] John Kerry says he's thinking about

[12:09] running for president in 2008.

[12:12] Yeah. In other words, Carrie is still

[12:14] telling bad jokes.

[12:18] And what else? Oh, Henry Kissinger.

[12:20] Henry Kissinger says the war in Iraq is

[12:22] unwinable. And believe it, there's

[12:24] anybody who know who knows how not to

[12:25] win a war. It's Henry Kissinger, ladies

[12:27] and gentlemen.

[12:30] Now, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for

[12:31] a little something we call great moments

[12:33] in presidential speeches. Great moments.

[12:37] [applause]

[12:39] [music]

[12:42] That the only thing we have to say is

[12:47] fear itself.

[12:49] Ask not what your country can do for

[12:53] you. Ask what you can do for your

[12:56] country.

[12:57] >> I I'd like to stay here all day, but I

[12:59] got to I got to go to Vegas.

[13:04] >> That's our show for today. Thanks for

[13:05] sharing part of your Sunday with us.

[13:07] [music] We'll see you next week.

[13:13] >> Why do I like working here?

[13:15] >> I'm part of something big. I'm part of

[13:17] the future. I bring people together and

[13:19] send smiles, literally. Michael's my

[13:22] son. We have a good time together.

[13:24] Michael thinks my [music] job is pretty

[13:26] cool. But what I like the most is that

[13:28] Verizon Wireless works as hard for me as

[13:30] I do for our customers. Through our

[13:32] tuition [music] reimbursement program, I

[13:34] earn my certification. As I grow, the

[13:37] company grows. I am Dian Mundy, [music]

[13:38] Verizon Wireless project engineer. It's

[13:41] very exciting to be part of something

[13:42] like this.

[13:45] 2,000 years ago, they probably never

[13:47] imagined people would be going past this

[13:50] at 50 km hour, just like we probably

[13:54] can't predict what we'll be driving in

[13:56] the future. That's why we're developing

[13:58] thermoplastic car body parts that

[14:00] [music] are lightweight and highly

[14:02] impact resistant,

[14:04] not to mention [music] recyclable, so we

[14:07] can keep things moving forward.

[14:10] I'm Marina Andlani and I work for Exxon

[14:12] [music] Mobile.

[14:15] >> Tonight starting at 98 central.

[14:16] >> I am not desperate.

[14:17] >> We're all desperate. Two of TV's

[14:19] hottest. Let me see your underwear.

[14:21] Hardest hitting shows.

[14:22] >> Dingdong.

[14:32] >> It's Boston Legal on a special night.

[14:36] daughter. It's not an easy time.

[14:39] powerful allnew Boston Legal after an

[14:41] allnew Desperate Housewives tonight

[14:46] Detective Brett Hopper doesn't know

[14:48] what's happening to his life.

[14:49] >> How did they find me?

[14:50] >> But a mysterious caller. [music]

[14:51] >> You do have something I'm looking for.

[14:54] >> Holds the key to unraveling the mystery

[14:56] [music] of this day.

[14:57] >> I want some answers.

[15:00] >> One clue.

[15:01] >> Count of three.

[15:02] >> One way out to tomorrow.

[15:03] >> You hear me? One, two.

[15:08] answers you need.

[15:23] [music]

[15:33] here in the gorge. Several vehicles have

[15:35] slipped off the highways here in Hood

[15:37] River County. Coming up, find out the

[15:39] different ways [music] people are

[15:40] digging out. On Mount Hood, it's lots of

[15:43] snow, spinning wheels, and tire chains.

[15:46] We'll tell you how people are dealing

[15:47] with all the snow and what they're doing

[15:48] to get ready for more and when the snow

[15:51] will hit your area.

[15:55] [music]

[15:55] >> Live at 5, K2 News, the spirit of the

[16:14] icy yet.

[16:15] >> And here is a live look from Troutdale.

[16:17] The wet ground and the clouds there but

[16:19] no snow for the moment.

[16:21] >> We'll have live reports from all those

[16:23] areas in a minute but first details on

[16:25] our winter storm warning. We go now to

[16:27] K2's Rhonda Shelby who's live in the

[16:28] weather center tracking the storm in the

[16:30] snow. Rhonda, what are you seeing right

[16:31] now?

[16:32] >> Well, let me set this. Remember, if it

[16:33] isn't the best used car you've ever

[16:35] owned, just bring it back to [music]

[16:36] Beaverton Chrysler Dodge. Very

[16:38] satisfied. I love my car and I love the

[16:40] people. I loved the process. It was

[16:42] great. I'd come back. K2 News voted

[16:44] [music] Oregon's best investigative

[16:46] journalism.
