[0:26] Good evening. Dan is off tonight. I'm
[0:28] Bob Chaffer. Well, with just 3 days to
[0:30] go until the year 2000, one of the
[0:32] nation's most heavily promoted holiday
[0:34] celebrations was suddenly cancelled
[0:36] today because of millennium jitters. The
[0:39] big party planned in Seattle is off. The
[0:42] mayor says the city just does not need
[0:44] any more anxiety. CBS News correspondent
[0:47] Bill Whitaker has our report. End of the
[0:50] century terrorism, or at least the
[0:52] threat of it, has taken its first
[0:54] casualty. Today, the mayor of Seattle
[0:57] cancelled the city's huge New Year's Eve
[0:59] party at the famed Space Needle because
[1:01] of public safety concerns. Although we
[1:04] are comfortable that the Seattle is not
[1:06] a target, that is the advice that we've
[1:08] received from the FBI, they can't at the
[1:11] same time assure us that um that there's
[1:14] no risk. 50,000 people were expected at
[1:18] the celebration dubbed the Time Square
[1:20] of the Pacific. The cancellation was met
[1:22] with resentment. I think it's absolutely
[1:25] incredibly stupid, but also a sense of
[1:28] relief. I think probably a lot of people
[1:30] are hiding out under the covers in their
[1:32] houses. There have been no specific
[1:34] threats, but Seattle has been restless
[1:37] since Akmed Ressum was arrested north of
[1:39] here two weeks ago, crossing
