[0:00] Dominating the headlines today is the

[0:01] wave of bombings that has left scores

[0:03] dead and wounded in Iraq. And much, much

[0:06] closer to us here at CBS News, the

[0:08] killings of CBS cameraman Paul Douglas

[0:11] and sound man James Brolan and the

[0:13] critical wounding of correspondent

[0:15] Kimberly Doer by a car bomb in Baghdad.

[0:18] Such bombings and IEDs, improvised

[0:20] explosive devices are making fighting

[0:22] this war more difficult and deadly, even

[0:25] changing the rules of war that mankind

[0:27] has followed for thousands of years.

[0:30] Joining us this morning to discuss that

[0:31] is retired Army Colonel and CBS News

[0:34] military and security analyst Mitch

[0:36] Mitchell. Good morning, Mitch.

[0:38] >> Good morning, Meg.

[0:54] where the IEDs are before they go off.

[0:56] And we're pretty bad at that. We don't

[0:58] have good human intelligence. So,

[1:00] unfortunately, we do the same thing day

[1:03] after day after day. We go out on our

[1:05] patrols and selectively we are struck by

[1:08] these IEDs. That's a bad situation. What

[1:11] makes it worse, of course, is that we

[1:12] operate in buildup areas, the worst

[1:14] possible circumstances for us because in

[1:17] these buildup areas, you have IEDs that

[1:20] can be planted anywhere in close

[1:22] proximity to the convoys that go rolling

[1:24] by. So, it's an ideal target field, if

[1:26] you will, for our enemies.

[1:28] >> It se
