[0:03] This is nature's fury unleashed tonight.
[0:07] All along the Gulf Coast, they've been
[0:09] forewarned. But how does anyone defend
[0:12] against this? Tonight, a close look at
[0:15] man versus nature as Andrew comes
[0:19] calling.
[0:21] [Music]
[0:28] This is ABC News Night Line reporting
[0:31] from Washington. Ted Cppel.
[0:34] >> To put things plainly, this broadcast
[0:37] tonight will be about as unstructured
[0:39] and unpredictable as a hurricane. We
[0:42] know what we want to do. Indeed, we have
[0:44] a number of correspondents stationed
[0:45] this evening at various locations along
[0:48] the Gulf Coast of Louisiana and a number
[0:50] of people who live along that same coast
[0:52] who have agreed to talk with us by
[0:54] phone. The problem is a simple one.
[0:57] Where communications are good is where
[0:59] the hurricane has not yet hit. Where the
[1:02] weather is worst, where high winds have
[1:04] started sweeping in off the Gulf,
[1:06] communications are being strained. Bear
[1:09] with us and we'll try and bring you up
[1:10] to speed on Hurricane Andrew's course,
[1:13] velocity, and power. And in so far as we
[1:16] can, we'll talk to people on the ground
[1:18] who are in the path of the storm. It
[1:20] looks at the moment as though the
[1:22] leading edge of the hurricane will be
[1:23] over Morgan City, Louisiana in just
[1:26] about half an hour. Stationed at Morgan
[1:29] City. He drove in there about an hour
[1:31] ago is my colleague Dave Marish. The
[1:33] first of the people that we're not going
[1:35] to be able to reach. I hope to be able
[1:37] to get to David just a little bit later.
[1:39] To the northwest of Morgan City,
[1:40] however, is my colleague Mike Schneider,
[1:43] who is, I believe, in Lafayett
