[0:03] I'm Katie Couric. Crude and rude at the
[0:06] UN, the president of oil-rich Venezuela
[0:08] calls President Bush the devil. With a
[0:11] new wave of violence in Iraq, many
[0:13] Americans say enough. In a new poll,
[0:15] most say leaving would not mean defeat.
[0:18] It's enough to make you sick. Wait till
[0:20] you hear where some of those
[0:21] bargain-price prescription drugs on the
[0:23] internet really come from. And is the
[0:26] American workplace going to the dogs?
[0:29] No, just the opposite.
[0:35] This is the CBS Evening News with Katie
[0:38] Couric.
[0:42] Hi everyone. He stood on international
[0:44] soil in the heart of New York and
[0:46] insulted the president of the United
[0:48] States. At the UN today, Venezuela's
[0:50] President Hugo Chavez appeared before
[0:52] the General Assembly, accused the US
[0:55] government of exploiting and pillaging
[0:57] the people of the world, and engaged in
[0:59] some very undiplomatic name-calling
[1:02] aimed at his American counterpart and
[1:04] nemesis, George W. Bush. Here's our
[1:07] national correspondent, Byron Pitts.
[1:11] Normally, when an anti-capitalist,
[1:13] American-hating leftist calls the
[1:14] president of the United States a devil,
[1:16] it doesn't make news.
[1:20] But today it was the president of
[1:22] Venezuela, and it was at the United
[1:24] Nations where President Bush had just
[1:26] given a speech the day before.
[1:29] And the devil came here yesterday.
[1:35] Yesterday, the devil came here. Chavez
[1:38] then made a tongue-in-cheek sign of the
[1:39] cross and said he could still smell the
[1:42] sulfur in the air. President Bush was
[1:44] already on his way back to Washingto
