[0:04] Tonight, the Dow breaks 9,000 from the
[0:07] wrong direction. Stock prices plunge
[0:09] again. Can anything calm the markets?
[0:13] I'm Katie Couric. Also tonight, it's
[0:15] getting rougher out on the campaign
[0:16] trail. Barack Obama portrays the John
[0:20] McCain mortgage bailout plan as
[0:21] punishing taxpayers. McCain tries to
[0:24] link Obama to a quote washed-up
[0:27] terrorist.
[0:28] Both candidates are promising her
[0:30] affordable health insurance. A look at
[0:32] their very different plans in our
[0:34] series, "Where They Stand."
[0:37] And a little boy

[1:13] at this, since the meltdown began 10
[1:15] days ago, the Dow has dropped a
[1:17] staggering 2,500 points with stocks
[1:20] losing nearly a quarter of their value.
[1:23] One analyst called it pure panic. Here's
[1:26] Anthony Mason.
[1:29] >> With the Dow taking another breathtaking
[1:31] nosedive, Wall Street's losing streak
[1:34] stretched into its seventh day. It was
[1:36] just a year ago today the Dow hit its
[1:38] all-time high of more than 14,000.
[1:42] >> Should I say happy anniversary?
[1:43] >> No, it's it's it's probably dreadful
[1:45] anniversary or unhappy anniversary here.
[1:47] >> Since then, the Dow's fallen nearly 40%
[1:50] from above 14,000 to below 8,600.
[1:54] >> What does that tell you?
[1:55] >> Tells
