[1:47] It's an escalating war in the Middle
[1:48] East tonight.
[1:55] Hezbollah and Israel continued fierce
[1:57] fighting for a sixth day, showing no
[1:59] sign of letting up. Hezbollah launched
[2:01] more deadly rockets from Lebanon,
[2:03] landing farther inside Israel. Israeli
[2:05] continues their retaliation. The toll on
[2:07] both sides now stands at more than 200
[2:10] dead. Meanwhile, the military is trying
[2:12] to get Americans out of the Middle East.
[2:14] Two Marine Corps helicopters have
[2:16] evacuated 21 US citizens from Lebanon to
[2:19] Cypress. A family of four with a sick
[2:21] child and four students were the first
[2:22] to leave. State Department officials say
[2:24] about 25,000 Americans are in Lebanon,
[2:27] but they only think about 15% of them
[2:29] actually want to leave.
[2:32] >> It's going to get worse, I think, before
[2:34] it gets better. And we don't want to
[2:35] discover afterwards that American
[2:36] citizens were trapped in a situation
[2:37] where we could have gotten them out.
[2:39] Well, the American embassy is urging
[2:41] Americans to register online so they can
[2:43] be contacted when evacuation plans are
[2:45] finalized.
[2:46] >> Meanwhile, at the G8 summit today,
[2:48] member nations finished a statement on
[2:50] the Middle East crisis. The leaders
[2:52] called for an immediate end to the
[2:53] bloodshed between Israel and Hezbollah
[2:56] today, specifically demanding the
[2:57] release of Israeli soldiers and an end
[2:59] to terrorist attacks against Israel. G8
[3:02] Nations asked that Israel exercise more
[3:04] restraint in the conflict, but all
[3:05] agreed that Hezbollah is to blame for
[3:07] the latest crisis.
[3:12] Well, once again here on this Sunday
[3:13] evening, all is quiet on the radar.
[3:15] Radar, not going to be the weather
[3:16] instrument I'm going to be focusing on
[3:18] this week. It's the thermometer. Details
[3:20] about some tripledigit heat that could
[3:22] be coming our way coming up.
[3:23] >> Well, joggers and walkers are flocking
[3:25] to a Portland trail once again, but some
[3:27] say the reopening could be putting their
[3:29] water in jeopardy. We'll explain.
[3:31] >> Plus, evacuations may be coming as fire
[3:33] season 2006 heats up in the Northwest.
[3:37] I'm Tim Becker with a preview of Oregon

[3:55] draft? That and more on Oregon Sports

[7:09] Toyota, it's time to move forward.
[7:16] In news from around the Northwest
[7:18] tonight, the family of two Seattle women
[7:20] killed on a hiking trip returned to the
[7:22] scene of the crime. 56-year-old Mary
[7:24] Cooper and her daughter, 27-year-old
[7:26] Susanna Stodden, were shot to death on a
[7:28] trail in the Cascade Mountains near
[7:30] Everett on Tuesday. The shooter is still
[7:32] on the loose. Cooper's family says they
[7:34] went back to the area to help deal with
[7:35] their grief. They're also urging the
[7:37] public to not let fear overcome them. A
[7:40] company in Washington wants to return
[7:41] its 400 mile pipeline system to full
[7:44] capacity. The pipeline ruptured in 1999
[7:46] in Bellingham, spilling more than
[7:48] 200,000 gallons of gasoline and igniting
[7:51] a fireball you see here that killed
[7:53] three people. The Olympic pipeline
[7:55] company has been operating the system at
[7:57] 80% since 2001. They're now asking the
[8:00] federal government for approval to
[8:01] return to full capacity.
[8:04] >> Foothold on the stubborn fire that's
[8:06] consumed more than 70,000 acres now. But
[8:08] weather remains their biggest concern.
[8:11] Fire officials fear rain from storms
[8:12] could cause massive flooding in the
[8:14] scorched canyon lands. Well, crews are
[8:16] battling fire season 2006 right now in
[8:18] Washington. The Gateway Line fire is
[8:21] burning on about 100 acres near the town
[8:22] of Cheni. Firefighters have it about 25%
[8:25] contained and they say the fire is
[8:26] threatening 10 buildings in the area.
[8:28] The cause is still under investigation,
[8:30] but officials say they think it was
[8:31] started by a person. And in central
[8:34] Washington, the Tinpan fire has burned
[8:36] more than 300 acres tonight near the
[8:38] Antiat River. It was started by
[8:40] lightning. Forest Service crews are
[8:41] working to keep it from spreading. Crews
[8:43] say it is within fire lines.
[8:49] >> And meteorologist Drew Jackson is back
[8:51] with us now. And I can tell you as
[8:52] reporters, Kevin and I have these bags
[8:54] under our desk for fire season 2006 that
[8:56] have all our fire gear and our boots and
[8:59] like all the protective gear that you
[9:00] need. And it's basically jumping out at
[9:02] us right now. Just waiting to go out
[9:04] there.
[9:04] >> You're just ready to get sent out the
[9:05] door, huh? Start come back smelling like
[9:07] smoke and everything. Yeah. T the season
[9:09] and with this week coming up, hot and
[9:11] dry. So, uh, I imagine there very well
[9:14] could be some problems here a week or
[9:15] two from now as a result of the hot
[9:16] weather that's coming, unfortunately.
[9:18] All right, here's a look from the
[9:19] Skyline camera, and you can see the city
[9:20] lights of Portland. A clear night, very
[9:22] calm and comfortable night. But I've
[9:24] been talking throughout the show here
[9:26] about some uncomfortable heat that is
[9:28] definitely headed our direction. But
[9:30] right now pretty comfortable. 68 at the
[9:31] Portland airport and in Troutdale also
[9:33] 68. Vancouver. Hillsboro's at 66. Scapus
[9:36] down to 64. McMinnville at 63. But
[9:38] Aurora still very close to 70 at this
[9:41] hour. All right, wind direction out in
[9:43] the northwest once again. And I think
[9:44] there's a slightly stronger onore flow
[9:47] tonight. And that means tomorrow's
[9:48] probably going to be a bit cooler and it
[9:50] very well could start off cloudy in
[9:51] places, especially near the rivers in
[9:53] the morning. But I do expect a lot of
[9:54] sunshine tomorrow afternoon. Another
[9:56] very comfortable day. High temperatures
[9:57] upper 70s to near 80 around the rest of
[9:59] the state this evening 74 right now
[10:01] Redmond 77 the Dallas still 80 and Burns
[10:03] along the coast it's in the 50s and
[10:05] farther to the east along Interstate 84
[10:07] down to 69 Hermiston Baker City is at 70
[10:10] and Lrand at 73. All right making news
[10:13] across the country a tremendous heat
[10:14] wave underway. Tripledigit heats and 90°
[10:17] temperatures almost everywhere in the
[10:20] United States. In fact there was a spot
[10:21] here in central South Dakota that hit
[10:23] 117°
[10:25] today. That's like Death Valley type
[10:27] temperatures. Those folks not used to
[10:29] that at all. The humidity very high as
[10:31] well. There's a huge dome of high
[10:33] pressure in here causing the extreme
[10:34] heat. This is now watch as I track this
[10:37] over the coming week. It looks like the
[10:39] heat's actually going to build to the
[10:40] west towards the Pacific Northwest. So,
[10:42] we see all those dark colors here over
[10:44] the northwest. And that means record
[10:46] high temperatures are likely. And these
[10:47] are Portland's records for the week
[10:49] ahead. You can see every day of the next
[10:51] four, the record high is 102 or higher.
[10:54] We're not going to get this hot this
[10:56] early. It's towards the end of the week
[10:58] when the records actually fall into the
[11:00] upper 90s to near 100. These records
[11:02] definitely in jeopardy. And if I were to
[11:04] literally interpret a couple of the
[11:06] computer models I was looking at, we
[11:08] would be flirting with the all-time
[11:09] record high in Portland about 107° here
[11:12] in this time frame. It's still a little
[11:14] too far out to say for sure if it's
[11:16] going to get that hot. I mean, it that's
[11:18] the all-time record high. So, that's
[11:19] certainly not something that happens all
[11:20] the time. Doesn't happen hardly ever, in
[11:22] fact. So, we'll have to keep an eye on
[11:24] this to see how hot it's going to be,
[11:26] but you'll see in my 7-day forecast, I
[11:27] do have tripledigit temperatures on the
[11:28] way. My forecast may end up being
[11:30] conservative here as the week goes on.
[11:32] All right, morning low clouds tomorrow,
[11:33] then afternoon sun breaks, 50s in the
[11:36] morning along the coast, 60s in the
[11:37] afternoon. Small craft advisor in effect
[11:38] because the winds will still be up a
[11:40] bit, say between 10 and 25 miles an
[11:42] hour. Lamoth Valley, you'll probably
[11:43] wake up to sunshine. A few places waking
[11:45] up to some clouds in the morning and
[11:46] it'll be a little bit cooler as mother
[11:48] nature's air conditioning kicks in a bit
[11:49] more tomorrow. Upper 70s to near 80 for
[11:51] high temperatures with the afternoon
[11:53] sunshine. Central and eastern Oregon.
[11:54] Another warm day and a bit breezy in
[11:56] places. Bend to 87. The Dallas windy and
[11:58] 86. Farther to the east in the 90s for
[12:01] Lrand Baker City and Burns in the
[12:02] Cascades. A sunny and warm day. Could be
[12:04] a few low clouds along the western
[12:06] slopes early. 70 at Government Camp. 63
[12:08] Timberline Lodge. First live local
[12:10] forecast for Portland now. 57 in the
[12:11] morning. Could be some low clouds. Some
[12:13] of you may wake up to sunshine though.
[12:14] 67 at noon and a cooler afternoon
[12:17] tomorrow. 77. Just a delightful
[12:19] afternoon. Right in that perfect range
[12:21] terms of the temperature. Northwest
[12:22] winds 5 to 15. Low 50s west of town in
[12:24] the morning. 54 in the morning. Long
[12:26] view. 75 there in the afternoon. 79 for
[12:28] Hillsboro. 78 Beaverton. East side of
[12:31] town. You'll see morning temperatures in
[12:32] the middle 50s. Could be a few scattered
[12:34] clouds early, but then mostly sunny in
[12:35] the afternoon with highs in the upper
[12:37] 70s. Here's a look at that 7-day
[12:38] forecast. Now, each day gets a bit
[12:40] warmer than the previous one. 80
[12:42] Tuesday, 85 Wednesday, up to 92
[12:45] Thursday. this point. At this point, I'm
[12:47] going to call for 100 on Friday and 102
[12:50] both Saturday and Sunday. And as I
[12:52] talked about, that could turn out to be
[12:53] even conservative. We may even have to
[12:56] up those numbers even higher as the week
[12:57] goes on. Mark will be updating that all
[12:59] week long. And Andy will have the
[13:00] forecast update tomorrow morning on Good
[13:02] Day Oregon beginning at 5.
[13:06] In the Fox 12 final cut, a neighborhood
[13:08] is rocked by a fiery plane crash. And as
[13:10] the smoke clears, neighbors are amazed
[13:12] at what might have been. They rocked
[13:14] out, then passed out. See what had
[13:16] dozens of Oz festers keeling over. And
[13:19] you've got to have a rockhard gut for
[13:21] this one. These bugs are a popular snack
[13:24] and they're in season on the final cut.

[16:56] news from across America. Tomorrow marks
[16:58] the 10-year anniversary of TWWA Flight
[17:01] 800's tragic explosion off the coast of
[17:03] Long Island. The Boeing 747bound for
[17:06] Paris crashed shortly after takeoff from
[17:08] JFK airport, killing all 230 people on
[17:11] board. Federal investigators determined
[17:13] that the crash was the result of a fuel
[17:14] tank explosion. Family and friends of
[17:17] the victims are gathering for a memorial
[17:19] tomorrow at Smith Point County Park in
[17:21] Long Island. It's the closest place on
[17:23] land to the crash site. A New York City
[17:26] doctor suspected of blowing up his
[17:27] townhouse has died. Police say someone
[17:30] tampered with the gas line in the
[17:31] building's basement last week. They
[17:33] think the doctor did it to keep his
[17:35] ex-wife from getting any money for
[17:36] selling the four-story building. The
[17:39] body of a woman killed in the Big Dig
[17:41] tunnel in Massachusetts is being flown
[17:43] tonight to her homeland of Costa Rica
[17:45] for burial. Mortars turned out for the
[17:47] woman's memorial service yesterday.
[17:49] Ceiling panels fell from the tunnel
[17:51] Monday, crushing the woman's car and
[17:53] killing her. Her husband crawled out to
[17:55] safety. The Big Dig is the nation's most
[17:57] expensive public works project ever.
[17:59] It's a tunnel system meant to make
[18:00] driving smoother in Boston.
[18:03] >> Police in Florida are looking tonight
[18:04] for the owner of a pitbull that's
[18:06] believed to have killed four horses. The
[18:08] horse's owners say they found the dog
[18:10] lying next to the dead animals. A
[18:12] neighbor shot and killed the pitbull.
[18:14] The horse owners say they're going to
[18:16] put up more fencing to protect their
[18:17] animals. Meanwhile, they want the dog
[18:19] owner to come forward and take
[18:20] responsibility. A shark is usually one
[18:23] of the last things you may want to see
[18:24] at a beach, but that was not the case at
[18:26] a beach in Massachusetts. Take a look at
[18:28] what happened when beachgoers spotted
[18:30] this 12 foot long shark yesterday.
[18:32] People actually came within several feet
[18:34] of it on purpose. Fortunately, it was a
[18:37] basking shark, which is harmless to
[18:39] people. Basking sharks can grow up to 33
[18:41] feet long and weigh up to four tons. The
[18:44] heat proved too much for some concert
[18:46] goers in Missouri. About 60 people at
[18:49] Ozfest yesterday had to be treated for
[18:51] heat exhaustion. Temperatures were near
[18:53] 100 degrees during the show. Some
[18:55] concert goers were complaining of chest
[18:56] pains, nausea, and fatigue. They all say
[18:59] that they were being charged uh charged
[19:01] for water, so they didn't buy any, but
[19:02] later on the water was given away for
[19:04] free. Some people in Ohio got some
[19:06] explosive news about one of their
[19:08] neighbors. Police evacuated 20 homes
[19:10] yesterday after someone spotted three
[19:12] cases of dynamite on a neighbor's back
[19:14] porch. Bomb squad spent six hours
[19:16] diffusing the explosives before they
[19:18] could be removed. The homeowner, who was
[19:20] found with a loaded gun, claimed that
[19:22] the dynamite was brought into his home
[19:24] 15 years ago when he moved in. There is
[19:26] no news yet if charges will be filed.
[19:33] Now, back to our coverage of uh the air
[19:35] show disaster right now. Uh, a retired
[19:38] military plane crashes to the ground,
[19:40] killing the pilot, evacuating the
[19:42] neighborhood, and making a dark end to
[19:43] the weekend's local air show. Tonight,
[19:45] we have live team coverage of the air
[19:47] show disaster, beginning with KPTV's
[19:49] Deborah Gil. She's live in the Hillsboro
[19:51] neighborhood where the plane went down.
[19:53] Deb Hillary, as you can see, they've
[19:55] taken down the police tape that kept us
[19:57] back and lessened their secured area for
[20:00] the evening. Now, it's just immediately
[20:02] around the house that was destroyed by
[20:04] the plane. And just moments ago, they
[20:06] let us in for a closer look. Take a
[20:08] look. We can show it to you now. This is
[20:10] the scene tonight where a blue English
[20:12] hawker hunter crashed into the home,
[20:14] destroying it. It happened at about 4:30
[20:16] this afternoon, just after the jet took
[20:18] off to head home to Southern California.
[20:21] You can see firefighters there
[20:22] continuing to put water on the wreckage
[20:24] to keep it cool as they investigate. The
[20:26] plane was part of the ground display of
[20:28] planes at the air show. Witnesses tell
[20:30] us the jet never really gained altitude.
[20:32] Then the engine went quiet and the plane
[20:35] came over the trees of this neighborhood
[20:37] and crashed into the home you see here.
[20:39] Four homes total were damaged. This one
[20:41] was destroyed. One has damage to one
[20:43] side of the home. Another home's attic
[20:45] was damaged by flames and the fourth
[20:47] home had some damage to its yard. The
[20:49] only casualty was the pilot who died in
[20:52] the crash. No one on the ground was
[20:55] hurt. Now back out live again. and the
[20:57] NTSB investigators are on their way here
[20:59] to this crash scene and the Oregon
[21:02] International Air Show officials tell us
[21:04] this is the first time any such disaster
[21:06] like this has happened in their 19-year
[21:08] history. Reporting live tonight in
[21:10] Hillsboro, Deborah Gill, the 10:00 news.
[21:12] >> All right, Deb, thanks. And the owner of
[21:13] the plane that crashed is a veteran
[21:15] pilot and instructor from Southern
[21:16] California. Robert Guilford has been
[21:18] flying for more than 45 years and is
[21:20] licensed to train pilots in his 1951
[21:23] Hunter Hawker fighter plane. A spokesman
[21:25] for the air show says that Guilford
[21:26] brought his plane to Hillsboro for
[21:28] people to see, but was not part of the
[21:30] actual aerial show. Now, we're told the
[21:32] pilot fueled up and intended to fly home
[21:34] late this afternoon. Presumably,
[21:36] Guilford was at the controls of the
[21:38] aircraft, but federal investigators have
[21:40] not yet confirmed that. Well, that crash
[21:42] left several families homeless tonight.
[21:44] Although they survived, many are still
[21:46] shaken. KPTV's David Wilson continues
[21:48] our team coverage tonight. He's live in
[21:50] Hillsboro with more. Dave?
[21:51] >> Yeah, the Red Cross is on scene here
[21:53] tonight. continuing to offer support to
[21:55] these people out here trying to give
[21:56] them anything they may need to help them
[21:58] recover from all of this. Uh neighbors
[22:00] say that everyone on the street is close
[22:03] and they feared the worst this afternoon
[22:04] when the plane crashed into Donna
[22:06] Reynolds house. Reynolds was fortunately
[22:08] not home at the time, but neighbors
[22:10] feared she might have been killed. Right
[22:12] next door, a couple was home at the time
[22:14] of the crash. Neighbors say they were
[22:16] going about their daily routine when
[22:18] they heard the plane crash and explode,
[22:20] burning part of their home.
[22:22] her husband was home um from work for
[22:25] lunch and so I think they just got out
[22:26] just in time. Now
[22:28] >> there are at least two families without
[22:30] homes here tonight. The Red Cross is
[22:31] offering up hotels to them. Now we go to
[22:34] Jamie Wilson and she has another part of
[22:36] the story. Jamie,
[22:37] >> well that's right. Dozens of police
[22:38] officers and firefighters responded
[22:40] within just minutes of the crash today.
[22:43] But actually the very first person on
[22:45] scene was an offduty National Guardsman.
[22:48] Eric Tucker was driving home from
[22:50] National Guard training this afternoon
[22:52] when he tells us that he actually saw
[22:54] the plane go down right away. He drove
[22:57] to the scene and made sure that no one
[22:58] was trapped or hurt. That he called 911,
[23:02] directed traffic, and even went door
[23:04] todo telling neighbors to evacuate. Eric
[23:07] tells us that he just had to help out.
[23:11] And maybe it's a father mentality in me.
[23:13] and I have three kids and if somebody's
[23:15] hurt, if one of my kids is hurt, I know
[23:17] I have to help. And that's what I did is
[23:20] I went to where they could use me.
[23:27] And without even planning or a cell
[23:29] phone call, Eric tells us that his
[23:32] offduty sergeant from the National Guard
[23:34] also responded to the crash scene
[23:36] without being asked. Live in Hillsboro
[23:38] tonight, Jamie Wilson, the 10:00 news.
[23:41] Fox 12 will have continuing coverage of
[23:43] the air show disaster. We will have the
[23:44] latest updates live tomorrow morning on
[23:46] Good Day Oregon starting at 500 am and
[23:49] on the 10 and 11 o'clock news programs.
[23:51] And for up-to-date news information,
[23:53] plus pictures, videos, and interviews,
[23:55] you can always click on kpv.com.
[23:58] Now, in the final cut, the city of
[24:00] Portland has restored public access to a
[24:02] historic reservoir in Washington Park,
[24:04] but some homeowners have concerns about
[24:06] the safety of their drinking water. Now,
[24:08] KPTV's Mark Glazooi has details.
[24:12] >> 81-year-old Elellanar Hos discovered a
[24:14] pleasant surprise on her walk through
[24:16] Washington Park. She found an open
[24:17] walkway around Reservoir 3 that was
[24:19] closed to the public for decades.
[24:21] >> Always been so closed up tight. I'm
[24:23] wondering why it's opening now.
[24:25] >> The Portland Water Bureau received
[24:27] inquiries from people who questioned why
[24:28] Mount Taber had open reservoirs and not
[24:31] Washington Park. The city agreed to
[24:32] change access to reservoir 3. It's
[24:35] really nice because it's flat and it's
[24:37] beautiful and you can see things that
[24:39] you never saw before. It's great.
[24:41] >> Reservoir 3 dates back to 1894 and is
[24:44] one of five open air reservoirs in
[24:46] Portland. It can hold more than 16
[24:48] million gallons of drinking water.
[24:50] >> While the city now has security here in
[24:52] place at reservoir number three, many
[24:53] people still have questions about how
[24:55] you can protect something this big from
[24:57] an outside threat. Well, that is the
[24:59] thing that bothers me is you never know
[25:02] who might uh try to do something with
[25:04] the water being so close to it.
[25:06] >> Besides installing surveillance cameras
[25:07] and adding 24/7 security, the water
[25:10] bureau performed a security review that
[25:12] in part found the chainlink fence around
[25:14] the reservoir mainly kept law- abiding
[25:16] people out, not troublemakers. The city
[25:18] believes people who use the walkway will
[25:20] ultimately turn their exercise into an
[25:22] informal neighborhood watch program.
[25:24] >> This is their reservoir. They are very
[25:27] protective of it. They're not going to
[25:28] allow uh vigorants or anybody else to do
[25:32] anything that would contaminate the
[25:33] water.
[25:34] >> The city plans to soon replace the chain
[25:36] link perimeter fence around reservoir 3
[25:38] with rod iron to add to the beauty of
[25:40] this urban postcard in southwest
[25:42] Portland. Mark Lazyski, the 10:00 news.
[25:44] >> And the walkway around Reservoir 3
[25:46] closes to the public daily at dusk.
[25:52] >> In the fight for Iraq tonight, an
[25:53] American soldier is dead following
[25:55] continued violence in Baghdad. The
[25:57] soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in
[25:58] a southern part of the capital city. Two
[26:00] other bombs exploded in Baghdad
[26:02] neighborhoods today, killing at least 26
[26:04] people and hurting more than 22 others.
[26:06] Meanwhile, a British soldier was killed
[26:08] in Bazra and a top oil ministry official
[26:11] was kidnapped.
[26:15] And in news from around the world
[26:16] tonight, the White House expects North
[26:18] Korea to rejoin six party nuclear talks
[26:21] despite rising tensions. Yesterday, the
[26:23] UN Security Council condemned North
[26:24] Korea's recent ballistic missile tests
[26:26] and imposed sanctions on the country.
[26:28] The North Korean ambassador called the
[26:30] action quote blackmail and left the
[26:32] meeting early. The Bush administration
[26:34] said it's confident, though North Korea
[26:35] will rejoin talks because the country
[26:37] considers them a separate issue from
[26:39] missile testing.
[26:41] A volcano in Ecuador is giving quite a
[26:44] show. Take a look. It's been spewing ash
[26:45] and lava. Thousands of people have had
[26:47] to evacuate schools and churches. Lava
[26:50] flows have already blocked roads and
[26:51] destroyed bridges. So far, there are no
[26:53] reports of injuries, but some cattle
[26:55] have died.
[26:57] It's ant season in Colombia, and that
[26:59] means snack time. The insects there are
[27:02] much larger than the ants you'll find in
[27:04] your backyard, and most can fly. The
[27:06] insects are toasted and eaten like
[27:08] popcorn. And if you think this is only a
[27:10] local delicacy, think again. More than
[27:12] 800 lb of ants were exported last year.
[27:15] Upscale department stores in London sell
[27:17] them for up to $8 per halfozen ants.
[27:20] Some people say the ants are a natural
[27:21] treatment for impotence and cancer.
[27:26] Fox 12 is on pump and experts say local
[27:28] drivers could see higher gas prices at
[27:30] violence continues in the Middle East.
[27:32] Middle East conflict has caused a spike
[27:34] in crude prices, but those increases
[27:36] haven't yet filtered down to the local
[27:38] consumer. The national average has held
[27:40] steady the last couple of days at 296
[27:41] for a gallon of unled. The average in
[27:43] Oregon sits about a penny higher at 297.
[27:46] And in the Portland, Vancouver area,
[27:47] things are better than average at 292.
[27:50] With a prolonged conflict in the Middle
[27:51] East considered likely, many experts
[27:53] think prices are projected to get worse.
[27:56] And that is Fox 12's final cut for
[27:58] tonight.
[28:00] >> Coming up on the 10:00 news, a popular
[28:02] television character comes to town. Find
[28:03] out why this larger than-l life

[28:17] >> Monday on the 10:00 news, did a former

[28:24] he'd have to see what that looked like.
[28:25] >> The Fox 12 investigators find out why a
[28:28] local horror movie casting call had
[28:30] women stripped down and why this actress
[28:32] is outraged. Monday on the 10:00 news

[31:04] Welcome back everybody. I'm Tim Becker
[31:05] and the 10 o'clock news is almost over,
[31:07] which also means Oregon Sports Final is
[31:09] now just minutes away. And here's one of
[31:12] the reasons you want to stick around to
[31:13] enjoy the show. We'll head to Blue Lake
[31:15] Park where the Pro Wakeboard Tour
[31:17] brought home a couple of Oregon natives
[31:19] who are living the good life right now.
[31:21] Also, you know, it is a bit bizarre yet
[31:23] captivating, the sport of cable tossing.
[31:25] You'll meet a Portland man in his 40s
[31:27] who thinks nothing of tossing a
[31:29] telephone pole and wearing a kilt.
[31:31] Trailblazer draft pick Brandon Roy came
[31:33] away from the Vegas Summer League
[31:35] looking like the steel of the draft.
[31:36] We're going to talk more about that and
[31:38] you'll hear from the former Husky. And
[31:40] our one-on-one guest tonight, a dual

[31:44] sports car racing, driving in the Le Man
[31:47] series here in Portland. She is also a
[31:49] worldclass talent at the sport of
[31:51] equestrian. Pretty good stuff. We're
[31:53] going to have all that and plenty more
[31:54] coming up tonight at 11:00 on Oregon
[31:56] Sports Final.
[31:58] >> Tonight, Space Shuttle Discovery is
[32:00] cleared for a trip back home. NASA
[32:02] engineers have been reviewing images
[32:04] from the shuttle's wings and nose cone
[32:06] and say there's no sign of damage.
[32:08] Earlier, there was concern about trouble
[32:10] with the skin that protects the
[32:11] spacecraft during re-entry. Astronauts
[32:14] finished repairs to the International
[32:16] Space Station during their 9-day
[32:17] mission. The only question now is the
[32:19] weather. And don't miss the shuttle
[32:21] landing. The Discovery is set to land a
[32:23] little after 600 at Kennedy Space Center
[32:25] in Florida at 6:00 a.m. So, we'll be
[32:27] carrying it live on Good Day, Oregon
[32:29] with coverage starting tomorrow at 5:00
[32:31] a.m.
[32:32] >> Well, the most popular advertising icon
[32:34] in the country made an appearance at
[32:35] this year's air show. Take a look. The
[32:37] Geico Gecko was named America's favorite
[32:39] corporate mascot in a recent online
[32:41] poll. Well, the spokes creature came to
[32:43] Hillsboro from Phoenix with stunt pilot
[32:45] Tim Weber to promote Geico insurance at
[32:47] the Oregon International Air Show. The
[32:49] larger than life gecko entertained
[32:50] audience members while Weber took to the
[32:52] sky in one of the highest performance
[32:54] planes in the show. Geico started using
[32:56] the talking green gecko in its ads back
[32:59] in 1999.
[33:01] He's not talking though.
[33:03] Hey, take a look at who's living in the
[33:05] fast lane now. Some senior citizens in
[33:07] Tennessee took a field trip from their
[33:09] nursing home this week. And as you can
[33:11] see, these go-karts were just the thing
[33:12] to satisfy their need for speed.
[33:15] Just sitting still just don't enthuse me
[33:18] very much. Still chasing the women.
[33:21] >> You give up while you're too old.
[33:23] >> You already won.
[33:25] >> Chasing those women. Yeah. Some of the
[33:27] seniors I saw that who took part were in
[33:29] their 90s. Still to come this summer.
[33:31] They plan to go rafting and also
[33:33] horseback riding
[33:34] >> and no airbags. All right. Well, yeah,
[33:35] they don't go too fast. All right. I
[33:36] think we're just about out of time
[33:38] actually, but uh we'll leave you with
[33:39] the last look at the 7-day forecast. And
[33:41] uh thanks so much for joining us
[33:42] tonight. Don't forget Good Day Oregon
