[0:04] of Local 10 News at 11.
[0:07] You're watching Local 10, home of local
[0:10] 10.com. WLG Local 10 News at 11 starts
[0:15] now.
[0:18] >> Venezuelan President Uo Chavez is
[0:20] [music] dead. The polarizing socialist
[0:23] leader succumbing to cancer at the age
[0:24] of 58.
[0:33] There's emotional announcement of
[0:34] Chavez's death made by Vice President
[0:36] Nicode Maduro, who choked back tears as
[0:39] he broke the news.
[0:40] >> In the streets of Caracus, sadness from
[0:42] supporters of Chavez, some crying,
[0:44] others holding pictures of their fallen
[0:46] leader.
[0:46] >> And a very different mood here as South
[0:48] Florida's Venezuelan population
[0:50] celebrates Chavez's death, hoping that
[0:52] his passing will bring change to their
[0:54] homeland. We're talking two distinct
[0:56] reactions to the death of a leader who
[0:58] ruled that country for 14 years.
[1:00] >> And while Chavez often criticized the
[1:02] US, the White House tonight is insisting
[1:04] America supports the Venezuelan people
[1:06] during this challenging time. Our team
[1:08] coverage begins tonight with Local 10's
[1:10] Ross Palumbo.
[1:11] >> Well, Calvin Lauri, the president was
[1:12] careful to say, "We support the
[1:14] Venezuelan people, but not the
[1:16] government." Most in Miami saw Chavez as
[1:18] a brutal dictator and cheer his death.
[1:21] But in his own country tonight, an
[1:22] outpouring of grief. There are few
[1:25] cheers and plenty of tears.
[1:32] >> Moments after his death and thousands
[1:34] brought the streets of Caracus alive
[1:36] with praise.
[1:39] >> He was the man who civilized us after a
[1:41] fascist regime. This man says,
[1:45] "A man who gave his life for us, this
[1:47] woman cried.
