[6:00] [singing]
[6:01] You may be seated. It's good to have you
[6:03] tonight. Brother Kant, we're going to
[6:05] jump in the slides up to the video. And
[6:07] so, if you guys can get the lights
[6:08] ready, we're going to show a video
[6:09] tonight. And so I want to encourage you
[6:11] to pay attention to the video tonight
[6:13] and make sure we've got that computer
[6:15] unmuted back there. And so looking
[6:17] forward to this video. So you pay
[6:18] attention to the video tonight.
[6:31] The Bible contains the mind of God, the
[6:35] state of man, the way of salvation, the
[6:38] doom of sinners, and the happiness of
[6:42] believers. Its doctrines [music] are
[6:44] holy, its precepts are binding, its
[6:47] stories are true, and its decisions are
[6:50] immutable.
[6:51] Read it to be wise, believe it to be
[6:54] safe, and practice it to be holy.
[6:59] It contains light to direct you, food to
[7:02] support you, and comfort to cheer you.
[7:06] It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's
[7:09] staff, the pilot's compass, the
[7:12] soldier's sword, and the Christian's
[7:14] charter. Here, paradise is restored,
[7:19] heaven opened, and the gates of hell is
[7:21] closed.
[7:24] Christ is its grand subject. How good
[7:27] the design and the glory of God its end.
[7:32] It should fill the memory, rule the
[7:35] heart and guide the feet. Read it
[7:39] slowly, frequently, and prayerfully.
[7:45] It is a mind of wealth, health to the
[7:48] soul, and a river of pleasure.
[7:51] It involves the highest responsibility.
[7:54] We'll reward the greatest labor and will
[7:57] [music] condemn all who trifle with its
[7:59] sacred contents.
[8:02] Pray it in, read it through, live it
[8:05] out, and pass it on.
[8:18] The Bible is not just a book.
[8:22] It is God's word. It ought to be part of
[8:25] our daily lives.
[8:27] So thankful for God's word. Another part
[8:29] of having a relationship with God is
[8:31] being in his word, but also spending
[8:34] time in prayer.
[8:37] I want you to grab your himnil and go to
[8:40] 114. And I want you to look at it. And
[8:44] so you say, "Well, I don't want to get
[8:45] up and reach for a himnel. I'm sorry.
[8:47] Not really. But I'm pretend that I'm
[8:50] sorry. 114
[8:53] is the hymn Tell It to Jesus.
[8:59] The song Tell It to Jesus
[9:02] starts off with questions
[9:06] and it asks questions
[9:09] of people and then he gives the answer
[9:11] of what to do. It says, "Are you weary?
[9:14] Are you heavy-hearted?" Question. Are
[9:17] you weary? Are you heavy-hearted? If you
[9:19] are, what should you do? Tell it to
[9:22] Jesus.
[9:24] Are you grieving over joys departed?
[9:28] What should you do? You should tell it
[9:31] to Jesus alone.
[9:34] Every verse asks questions.
[9:37] Do the tears flow down your cheeks
[9:40] unbidden? Are you crying? Are you
[9:42] sorrow? What should you do? Tell it to
[9:45] Jesus.
[9:48] Have you sinned that two men's eyes are
[9:51] hidden? Question. You got sin in your
[9:54] life. What should you do? Tell it to
[9:57] Jesus.
[10:00] Do you fear the gathering clouds of
[10:03] sorrow?
[10:04] What should you do? Tell it to Jesus.
[10:09] Are you anxious? What shall be tomorrow?
[10:13] You got fear and worry about tomorrow.
[10:16] What should you do? Tell it to Jesus.
[10:21] Are you troubled at the thought of
[10:23] dying?
[10:27] What should you do? Tell it to Jesus.
[10:33] For Christ's coming kingdom. Are you
[10:36] sighing?
[10:39] Tell it to Jesus alone.
[10:43] It's a powerful song.
[10:46] Sometimes we sing it without thinking
[10:50] about it.
[10:53] So before we sing it tonight, I want you
[10:55] to think about it.
[10:58] There have been things in your life that
[11:00] you
[11:01] didn't pray about,
[11:04] didn't talk to God about
[11:08] when you should have,
[11:12] tell it to Jesus.
[11:16] The reason why we should tell it to
[11:18] Jesus is he is a friend that's well
[11:25] known.
[11:27] He's not just a friend, fairweather
[11:30] friend. He's a friend that's well known
[11:33] or should be in your life.
[11:36] You've no other such a friend or
[11:39] brother.
[11:41] Tell it to Jesus alone.
[11:45] So the Bible
[11:47] needs to be read and prayers need to be
[11:51] prayed. So if you would with me tonight,
[11:54] if you're able, stand with us. We're
[11:56] going to sing hymn 114
[11:59] and I'm going to ask the questions on
[12:01] the first part and you're going to give
[12:03] the answer and then we'll mix it up on
[12:06] the verses that come along. So, we're
[12:08] going to sing with some intentionality
[12:11] tonight to keep you from getting in a
[12:14] rut, which is just a grave with both of
[12:17] the ends kicked out. We want to get you
[12:21] singing with some intentionality
[12:22] tonight. So, we're going to sing this
[12:24] one ac cappella just to give the
[12:26] orchestra a little break on this one.
[12:29] But I want you to answer the question
[12:32] after I I sing it to you. All right. Are
[12:35] you weery? Are you heavyarted?
[12:45] >> Are you grieving overjoy?
[12:51] Tell it to Jesus.
[12:54] >> Now everyone together, tell it to
[12:57] [singing] Jesus.
[12:59] Tell it to Jesus.
[13:02] He is a friend that's well known.
[13:08] You've no other such a friend or
[13:13] brother.
[13:14] Tell it to Jesus alone.
[13:20] Ladies, you sing the question and the
[13:21] men will answer. I hope you get started.
[13:24] Ready, ladies? Do the
[13:31] >> men tell it to Jesus.
[13:35] Tell it to Jesus.
[13:45] >> Tell it to Jesus alone. Everyone
[13:51] tell it to Jesus.
[13:54] Tell it to Jesus.
[13:58] He is a friend that's well known.
[14:04] You know
[14:07] such a friend or brother.
[14:11] Tell it to Jesus alone. All right, man.
[14:16] We're going to ask the question. Do you
[14:19] fear the gathering clouds of sorrow?
[14:24] Ladies,
[14:31] >> are you anious? What shall be tomorrow?
[14:42] >> Everyone together.
[14:44] Tell [singing]
[14:45] it to Jesus.
[14:48] Tell it to Jesus.
[14:51] He is a friend that's well known.
[14:58] You know other such a friend or brother.
[15:04] Tell it to Jesus
[15:07] alone.
[15:09] We're going to sing the last verse and
[15:11] then after that we're going to have the
[15:12] offering. The orchestra is going to play
[15:14] during the offering tonight. And so I'm
[15:17] going to sing the question and you sing
[15:19] the answer tonight. All right. Are you
[15:23] trled at the thought of dying?
[15:29] >> Jesus
[15:34] >> for Christ coming.
[15:37] Kingdom are you
[15:44] >> sing it together now. Tell it to Jesus.
[15:50] Tell it to Jesus.
[15:54] He a friend that's well known.
[16:00] You know other
[16:03] such a friend or brother.
[16:07] Tell it to Jesus
[16:10] alone.
[16:12] Let's sing that chorus like we believe
[16:13] it. Ready? Tell it to Jesus.
[16:18] Tell it to Jesus.
[16:26] >> Amen.
[16:29] >> You know
[16:32] such a friend or brother.
[16:36] Tell [singing] it to Jesus
[16:40] alone.
[16:42] Good singing tonight. Brother John
[16:44] Harris. Would you lead us in prayer for
[16:45] the offering?
[17:09] Amen. You may be seated.
[17:57] >> [music]
[18:09] >> time. You can remain seated. Hymn 219.
[18:12] Hymn 219. Little is Much when God is in
[18:16] it. We'll sing the first, the third, and
[18:18] the last of Little is Much when God is
[18:20] in it. Let's sing it out [music] on that
[18:22] first verse.
[18:32] On [music] the first in the harvest
[18:36] [singing] field now ripen,
[18:39] there's a work for all to do.
[18:45] Hark the voice [singing]
[18:47] [music] of God is calling
[18:50] to the harvest
[18:53] [music and singing] calling you.
[18:56] Little is much when God [music] is in
[18:59] it. Labor [singing] not for [music]
[19:04] wealth or fame.
[19:06] There's a crown and you
[19:09] [singing and music] can win it if you'll
[19:13] go in [music] Jesus name. All right. On
[19:17] this next verse, everybody over 50, sing
[19:21] the third verse. Everybody over 50, sing
[19:23] the [music] third verse. and then we'll
[19:25] join you on the chorus. Everyone over
[19:27] 50. All right. Ready? Here we go. Are
[19:31] you
[19:39] [music]
[19:42] still [singing]
[19:43] be [music] in the battle?
[19:50] >> [music]
[19:51] >> Everyone,
[19:52] little is much when God is in it.
[19:57] [singing and music]
[19:58] Labor not
[20:01] for wealth or fame.
[20:04] [singing] There's a crown [music]
[20:06] and you can win
[20:10] if [music and singing] you'll go
[20:12] in Jesus name. All right. All those 30
[20:15] [music] and below, 30 and below are
[20:18] going to sing the fourth verse. 30 and
[20:21] below sing the fourth verse and we'll
[20:23] all join in on the chorus. 30 and below.
[20:26] Are we ready? When [music and singing]
[20:28] the
[20:47] Everyone now little is much when God
[20:53] [music and singing] is in it. Labor not
[20:57] for wealth [singing] or fame. [music]
[21:01] There's a crowd [singing]
[21:03] and you can win [music]
[21:06] if you'll go in Jesus name.
[21:12] Hey, no matter what age we are, we're
[21:14] going to serve the Lord little as much
[21:16] [music]
[21:17] when God is in it. So, thank you for
[21:19] singing tonight. If you got your Bibles,
[21:21] go to Matthew chapter number four.
[21:23] Matthew chapter number four. You may
[21:26] say, "Well, my my place isn't that
[21:28] special." It is.
[21:31] It is. That second verse says, "Does the
[21:33] place you're called to labor seem so
[21:35] small and little known?" Well, it is
[21:38] great if God is in it
[21:41] >> and he'll not forget his own. Matthew
[21:44] chapter 4 tonight. And if you're able,
[21:46] would you stand and honor the word of
[21:48] God? We'll be looking temptation
[21:52] ammunition.
[21:53] Temptation, ammunition.
[21:56] Where is it?
[21:58] temptation ammunition.
[22:01] Where is it? Matthew chapter 4 verse
[22:04] one. If you're there, say amen.
[22:07] >> Then was Jesus led up of the spirit. All
[22:10] right. Capital or lowercase.
[22:13] >> Capital, it's the Holy Spirit. He's
[22:14] being led by the Holy Spirit into the
[22:17] wilderness for what purpose? To be
[22:20] tempted of the devil. And when he had
[22:23] fasted 40 days and 40 nights, he was
[22:27] afterward and hungered. And when the
[22:30] tempter came to him, he said, "If thou
[22:34] be the son of God, command that these
[22:37] stones be made bread." But he answered
[22:40] and said, "It is written, man shall not
[22:45] live by bread alone, but by every word
[22:49] that proceedth out of the mouth of God,
[22:52] then the devil taketh him up into the
[22:55] holy city, setth him on the pinnacle of
[22:58] the temple, and saith unto him, if thou
[23:02] be the son of God, cast thyself down."
[23:07] Watch this next part. For it is written,
[23:13] Satan quoting scripture, he shall give
[23:15] his angels charge concerning thee, and
[23:18] in their hands they shall bear thee up,
[23:20] lest at any time thou dash thy foot
[23:24] against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It
[23:29] is written again, "Thou shalt not tempt
[23:34] the Lord thy God." Again, the devil
[23:38] taketh him up into an exceeding high
[23:41] mountain, and showeth him all the
[23:43] kingdoms of the world, and the glory of
[23:46] them, and saith unto him, All these
[23:50] things will I give thee, if thou wilt
[23:54] fall down, and worship me."
[23:58] Then said Jesus unto him, Get thee
[24:02] hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou
[24:08] shalt worship the Lord thy God, and in
[24:11] him only shalt thou serve. Then the
[24:16] devil leaveth him, and behold, the
[24:19] angels came and ministered unto him.
[24:26] Tonight we're going to talk about
[24:27] temptation
[24:29] and we're going to talk about ammunition
[24:33] for temptation
[24:35] and the subtitle is where is it? Where
[24:39] is it? So let's go Lord in prayer
[24:40] tonight. Dear heavenly father Lord I
[24:41] thank you for the opportunity to preach
[24:42] your word tonight. Lord I pray if you
[24:45] would please cleanse me of sin and empty
[24:47] me of myself that I might get out of the
[24:49] way tonight and your word may go forth.
[24:50] Lord I pray that you'd speak to our
[24:52] hearts today. Challenge us from your
[24:54] word. In your name I pray. Amen. You may
[24:57] be seated.
[25:00] Matthew chapter 4, Jesus is led by the
[25:04] spirit into the wilderness. If you're
[25:07] taking notes tonight,
[25:10] spiritled
[25:12] people battle temptation.
[25:18] Spiritled
[25:21] people battle temptation.
[25:26] Flesh
[25:28] people give in to temptation.
[25:35] Spirit-led people battle temptation.
[25:39] Flesh people give in to temptation.
[25:46] First Corinthians chapter 10 verse
[25:48] number 13. There hath no temptation
[25:52] taken you, but such as is common to man.
[25:56] But God is faithful, who will not suffer
[26:01] be tempted above that ye are able, but
[26:04] will with that temptation also make a
[26:07] way of escape that ye may be able to
[26:11] bear it. You believe that God has a exit
[26:15] for your temptation.
[26:18] >> So you don't have to sin.
[26:22] You can say no to temptation.
[26:25] >> Do you believe it?
[26:28] >> Where is it?
[26:31] Where is
[26:33] the ammunition, the exit to get out of
[26:38] temptation?
[26:40] Well, the word of God shows us how
[26:48] spirit-led person
[26:51] face temptation.
[26:54] Matthew chapter 4. We ready? We're going
[26:57] to dive in. Matthew chapter 4. Jesus led
[27:01] of the spirit, Holy Spirit led into the
[27:05] wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
[27:09] And when he had fasted 40 days and 40
[27:11] nights, he was afterward and hungered.
[27:15] The tempter shows up when there's
[27:18] physical weakness,
[27:22] when you're tired,
[27:28] when you're
[27:30] not at your full capacity physically,
[27:34] the tempter loves to show up. You'll
[27:36] also notice Jesus is in the wilderness.
[27:40] He's not in downtown Jerusalem. He's not
[27:42] in downtown Capernaum. He's not in
[27:45] downtown Bethlehem. He's in the
[27:47] wilderness by himself.
[27:52] So, the tempter loves to show up when
[27:55] you're physically tired. The tempter
[27:58] loves to show up when you're all by
[28:01] yourself.
[28:05] Now, we're not talking about a wicked
[28:07] person here. We're talking about the son
[28:09] of God who is spiritled. So Jesus could
[28:13] not have sinned
[28:16] because he's God.
[28:19] So if he could not have,
[28:24] then why be tempted in the first place?
[28:29] Well, there's a reason for that.
[28:32] He's tempted
[28:34] to be an ensample
[28:37] to us
[28:39] on how not to give in to temptation. So
[28:44] keep a ribbon, a marker, a bulletin in
[28:47] Matthew 4. Go to First Corinians
[28:50] chapter 10. I quoted to you verse 13,
[28:55] but we want to look at verses 11 and 12.
[29:00] 1 Corinthians 10 11 and 12,
[29:04] Paul lists of the church of Corinth a
[29:06] warning
[29:09] against believers living a life contrary
[29:12] to God.
[29:14] In verse 11, he says this. Now all these
[29:17] things happened unto them for in samples
[29:21] and they are written for our admonition
[29:27] upon whom the ends of the world are
[29:29] come. Wherefore let him that thinkketh
[29:33] he standeth take heed lest he fall.
[29:37] There hath no temptation taken you but
[29:40] such as is common to man. And you
[29:41] already heard me quote verse 13.
[29:45] So if God gave us wicked examples to
[29:49] know how to battle temptation
[29:52] and how people gave in to temptation, do
[29:56] you think he might give us some godly
[29:58] examples on how to battle temptation as
[30:02] an example to us? I believe he did. And
[30:06] it's found in Matthew chapter number
[30:08] four in the temptation of Christ.
[30:12] So, verse three, Matthew 4. Go back to
[30:14] Matthew 4. I'm hoping to wear your
[30:17] fingers out tonight.
[30:20] Amen. We need to develop some spiritual
[30:22] calluses on turning our Bible pages.
[30:26] When the tempter came to him, he said,
[30:28] "If thou be the son of God, command that
[30:31] these stones be made bread." But he
[30:33] answered and said, "What three words,
[30:36] church?
[30:37] It is
[30:40] >> written where
[30:44] we know what it says. Man shall not live
[30:45] by bread alone. But where's it written?
[30:49] It's in the word of God. Where's it at?
[30:51] It's in Deuteronomy, right? Chapter 8,
[30:54] verse number three. Deuteronomy chapter
[30:58] 8 verse number three talks about this
[31:00] verse. Man shall not live by bread
[31:01] alone, but by every word that proceedth
[31:04] out of the mouth of God. By the way,
[31:05] who's quoting scripture to him? Uh we
[31:07] talked about him this morning. He is the
[31:11] word.
[31:14] >> The logos. We talked about him this
[31:16] morning. The word.
[31:18] The word said, "It is written, man shall
[31:22] not live by bread alone, but by every
[31:25] word that proceedth out of the mouth of
[31:27] God." Satan didn't argue with the
[31:30] scripture.
[31:34] He didn't.
[31:36] He went right to verse number five.
[31:39] Then, oh, I can't get him there. I can't
[31:43] get him there. So, let's go here. Then
[31:46] the devil taketh him up into an holy
[31:48] city, setth him upon the pinnacle of the
[31:50] temple, say unto them, "If thou be the
[31:52] son of God, cast thyself
[31:56] down."
[32:00] Do you see what the devil does next?
[32:02] The devil says, "For
[32:06] it is written, he shall give his angels
[32:11] charge concerning thee, and in their
[32:13] hands shall bear thee up, lest at any
[32:15] time thou dash thy foot against the
[32:17] stone." He twists scripture,
[32:24] but where's it at?
[32:27] Psalm 91 verses 11 and 12. That's where
[32:30] he's quoting from.
[32:33] Now, he left out some stuff, but Psalm
[32:36] 91 11 and 12.
[32:40] So, the devil,
[32:42] watch this, this is good stuff. The
[32:44] devil may tempt you by twisting,
[32:49] manipulating
[32:50] scripture
[32:52] to bring doubt, confusion into your
[32:55] life. But you and I must remember that
[32:58] God is not the author of confusion.
[33:05] But the devil twisted the scriptures.
[33:11] So in his twisting of scriptures,
[33:15] Jesus said unto him, verse seven, it is
[33:22] written again,
[33:25] thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
[33:31] It is written,
[33:34] but where? It's in Deuteronomy 6
[33:38] verse 16.
[33:41] Deuteronomy 6 and verse 16. Why is it
[33:45] important
[33:47] to know it is written? Well, we know
[33:50] God's the word. He quoted scripture.
[33:52] Yes. But he said it
[33:56] for our ensemble
[33:59] so that we can have ammunition
[34:02] to battle temptation.
[34:06] Verse
[34:08] eight again. The devil taketh him up
[34:12] into an exceeding high mountain, showeth
[34:15] him all the kingdoms of the world, and
[34:17] the glory of them. Saith unto him, "All
[34:20] these things will I give thee." Like he
[34:23] could do that.
[34:26] Now, he's the prince and power of the
[34:28] air,
[34:30] but everything belongs to God. The devil
[34:33] just has limited access to it.
[34:36] if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
[34:39] Then Jesus said unto him, get thee hence
[34:44] Satan called him by his name. Then said
[34:48] these four words, for it is written,
[34:54] thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and
[34:57] him only shalt thou serve.
[35:01] It's written, but where?
[35:04] It's Deuteronomy 6:13
[35:07] and Joshua 24:14.
[35:12] Then the devil leaveth him, and behold,
[35:18] angels came and ministered unto him.
[35:24] all the temptations of Christ, his
[35:27] response was, "It is written." The
[35:33] ammunition that Jesus used to defeat
[35:38] temptation
[35:40] is the same ammunition
[35:43] that you and I need to battle
[35:47] temptation.
[35:50] Say, "Well, that's an interesting
[35:52] thought." Psalm 119
[35:55] verse 11.
[35:59] Thy word have I hid in mine heart for
[36:05] what purpose? That I might not Uhoh.
[36:10] Giving into temptation would be sinning
[36:14] that I might not sin against God. Wait a
[36:18] minute. He said in his word, Bible in
[36:22] word of God in battling temptation I
[36:25] might not sin. I can have victory over
[36:30] temptation
[36:32] by using the ammunition of it is
[36:37] written.
[36:39] Do you believe it?
[36:42] >> Do you believe that the word of God can
[36:44] provide ammunition to defeat temptation?
[36:49] Amen. Or oh me. Amen.
[36:56] So,
[36:57] buckle up. We're going to deal with some
[37:00] temptations.
[37:02] When you are tempted to be angry,
[37:08] where is it written?
[37:12] This thing on.
[37:14] When you are tempted to be angry and
[37:17] sin, where is it written?
[37:21] Ephesians what? 4:26. Take your Bible
[37:25] and go there.
[37:29] Ephesians, if we're not going to give
[37:31] in, if we're going to defeat the
[37:33] temptation to be angry and sin, and
[37:36] that's a temptation that you struggle
[37:38] with, and you struggle with the
[37:39] temptation of anger, you need some
[37:41] ammunition to battle it.
[37:44] And your ammunition comes from it is
[37:47] written. Ephesians 4:26.
[37:50] What's it say? Be ye angry and
[37:55] >> sin not. Let not the sun go down upon
[37:59] your wrath.
[38:02] Be ye angry and sin not. You can have
[38:06] the emotion, but it needs to be checked
[38:11] to keep you from sin.
[38:17] Your anger
[38:19] will overtake you and lead you into sin
[38:24] if you don't have some ammunition
[38:27] to battle that temptation.
[38:32] So, if you're tempted to get angry a lot
[38:34] and lash out on other people,
[38:38] what's a verse that you could put in
[38:40] your heart
[38:42] to help you to give you ammunition for
[38:45] the temptation?
[38:47] Ephesians 4:26.
[38:51] Where? Ephesians 4:26.
[38:55] Where? Ephesians 4:26.
[38:58] Now, you've said it three times.
[39:00] Hopefully, it'll kind of hang around
[39:01] your brain for a little bit, but some of
[39:03] us might need to write it down
[39:09] because some experience road rage.
[39:13] You may need to have that in your
[39:15] vehicle somewhere.
[39:18] Be ye angry and sin not.
[39:22] A man was driving his car and pulled up
[39:27] to a stoplight and the car in front of
[39:30] him just kept waiting and waiting. The
[39:31] light turned green and they just kept
[39:33] waiting and waiting and he honked on the
[39:36] horn and he stuck his head, hurry up.
[39:41] That person finally moved and they
[39:43] turned down the street. And few minutes
[39:45] later,
[39:47] that man, by the way, was out
[39:51] representing the church
[39:54] on visitation
[39:57] and
[40:00] and the lady came to the door
[40:04] that he had honked at and that he had
[40:06] yelled at.
[40:10] You think they had a good conversation
[40:12] about inviting her to church and how
[40:14] Jesus could save her life? No. Why?
[40:16] Because he blew it.
[40:19] Cuz he gave in
[40:22] to the temptation to be ye angry and sin
[40:25] not.
[40:28] You struggle with anger. You need to get
[40:31] you a verse.
[40:33] Be angry and sin not. Let not the sun go
[40:36] down upon your wrath. I use this in
[40:37] counseling couples. Don't go to bed
[40:40] angry.
[40:42] Deal with today's problems today.
[40:46] Don't go to bed angry. Deal with today's
[40:48] problems today. Be ye angry and sin not.
[40:51] You say, "Well, I don't have an anger
[40:52] problem." All right. What about lust?
[40:56] You got a lust problem? No, I don't have
[40:58] a problem with lust. I can do it anytime
[40:59] I want.
[41:03] Temptation
[41:05] to lust.
[41:09] Where's your verse?
[41:12] Where's your ammunition?
[41:15] Psalm 119:11 said, "Thy word have I hid
[41:17] in my heart that I might not sin God."
[41:19] Okay, where's the verse? Where are you
[41:21] going to go?
[41:24] Well, preacher is going to help you
[41:25] tonight with a few references. James
[41:29] chapter 1. Turn there. James chapter 1.
[41:36] James chapter number one
[41:40] verses 14 and 15.
[41:44] James chapter 1 verses 14 and 15.
[41:52] But every man is tempted when he's drawn
[41:53] away of his own
[41:56] lust and enticed. Then when lust hath
[41:59] conceived, it bringeth forth sin. And
[42:01] sin when it is finished bringeth forth
[42:04] death.
[42:07] Yay.
[42:10] Wh What's happening here?
[42:12] Well, the source of temptation is you.
[42:16] Hello.
[42:18] The source of temptation is you. It's
[42:21] not what you looked at. It's what you
[42:23] thought upon.
[42:27] >> See, the first glance isn't the sin.
[42:29] It's when you dwell upon what you looked
[42:31] at and you begin to lust after it. Every
[42:34] man is tempted when he's drawn away of
[42:36] his own lust.
[42:39] It's not what that person wore that made
[42:41] you lust. It's your own lust in your own
[42:44] heart.
[42:46] In other words, you or I is the problem.
[42:54] So if James says, "My problem is my own
[42:58] lust,"
[42:59] what do I need to do? Well, the next
[43:01] verse tells me, "When lust hath
[43:03] conceived, it bringeth forth sin. And
[43:07] sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth
[43:10] death." There are consequences for your
[43:14] sin. Amen.
[43:16] >> The more you lust, the harder it is to
[43:20] get it out of your mind.
[43:26] >> You got to think about the end before
[43:28] you start the lusting.
[43:32] If I continue lusting, where's it going
[43:34] to take me?
[43:37] Where is it going to take me? James
[43:40] chapter 1 14 and 15. Another one is
[43:42] Galatians chapter 5 and verse 16.
[43:48] Galatians chapter 5 verse 16.
[43:55] This I say then, walk in the spirit,
[44:00] capital S, and ye shall not fulfill the
[44:05] lust of the flesh.
[44:09] For the flesh lusteth against the
[44:11] spirit, capital S, and the spirit
[44:14] against the flesh, and these are
[44:16] contrary one to another, so that you
[44:19] cannot do the things that ye would. But
[44:22] if you be led of the spirit, ye are not
[44:26] under the law. Uhoh. What's it telling
[44:28] us here? When I'm in the word, living
[44:31] the word, obeying the word, and walking
[44:34] with God in the spirit, I can say no to
[44:39] lust.
[44:41] But if I'm walking in the flesh,
[44:45] I want what I want when I want it.
[44:49] and I become a very selfish individual
[44:53] because we're lusting after what we want
[44:57] instead of allowing us to be led and
[45:01] walking in the spirit. So maybe lust is
[45:06] your temptation. Maybe it's alcohol.
[45:10] Alcohol. You say, "Oh, preacher, I got
[45:12] my alcohol verse. I got it." You know,
[45:16] modernist Christians and liberal
[45:18] Christians, they've got their alcohol
[45:20] verse. What is it? It's Ephesians 5:18.
[45:23] That's their alcohol verse. Yeah,
[45:25] preacher. That's the one. That's the
[45:27] alcohol verse. Be not drunk with wine.
[45:30] Wherein is his excess, but be filled
[45:32] with the spirit. Yeah, preacher. See, it
[45:34] says, "Be not drunk." That's See, so I
[45:36] can have some. I just can't get drunk on
[45:38] it. That's not what it's saying.
[45:42] In case you're wondering, I give you
[45:44] another one in the word of God. Proverbs
[45:48] 23:31.
[45:52] Proverbs 23:31
[45:55] says to look not upon the cup when it
[46:00] moveth itself.
[46:04] Now, I left out part of the verse, but
[46:06] the verse is saying, DON'T EVEN LOOK AT
[46:09] IT.
[46:11] Don't even look at it in the cup.
[46:16] Don't even look at it.
[46:19] So why would God tell us in in
[46:22] Ephesians, don't be drunk,
[46:25] but in another part of scripture say
[46:26] don't look at it. Well, the emphasis is
[46:30] that he's talking about in Ephesians 5
[46:32] about being filled with the spirit,
[46:35] under control of the spirit,
[46:40] not being under control of something
[46:42] else.
[46:46] God says, "Don't even look at it." This
[46:51] moderation alcoholism
[46:54] is not of God.
[46:58] It's of people who have a lust to do
[47:01] what they want to do and try to find a
[47:04] twisted scripture like Satan did to get
[47:07] it to go with them.
[47:09] So, Proverbs 23:31, Ephesians 5. What
[47:12] about drugs?
[47:16] What about drugs? What What's our verse
[47:19] for that?
[47:22] What could we use to fight drugs?
[47:26] I don't know, maybe 1 Corinthians 10:31.
[47:32] Whether therefore you eat or drink or
[47:36] whatsoever you do, do all to the glory
[47:42] of God.
[47:43] All right. So before you're I'm just
[47:46] going to get blunt. Before you smoke
[47:48] crack,
[47:50] you need to ask God to bless it and ask
[47:53] him to get glory from it. And if he
[47:56] can't,
[47:58] neither should you participate in it.
[48:01] Well, before I shoot up this heroin,
[48:05] I God, I need you to bless it and I need
[48:07] you to get glory from. If God won't,
[48:11] then you shouldn't participate in it.
[48:16] Now you can pick any drug that you want.
[48:19] Whether therefore you eat or drink or
[48:20] whatsoever you do, do all to the glory
[48:23] of God.
[48:27] So your temptation.
[48:29] What about pornography?
[48:33] What's your verse of ammunition to help
[48:37] you battle pornography?
[48:41] What's your verse?
[48:44] That's one.
[48:46] I was going to go to Psalm 101 verse3.
[48:50] Psalm 101
[48:52] verse3.
[48:59] Psalm 101 verse3.
[49:09] I will set no wicked thing before mine
[49:17] eyes. I hate the work of them that turn
[49:23] aside. It shall not cleave to me.
[49:31] I will set no wicked thing before mine
[49:37] eyes. Why? Because Lamentations chapter
[49:40] 3 verse uh 31 or 51, I can't remember
[49:43] which one it is, says this, mine eye
[49:47] affectth mine heart.
[49:52] Mine eye
[49:54] affectth mine heart. What I look at
[49:58] affects my heart.
[50:02] >> Well, who's supposed to be in control of
[50:05] my heart? The spirit.
[50:10] 351. Thank you, brother Glenn.
[50:12] Lamentations 3:51. Mine eye affectth
[50:15] mine heart. Psalm 101. I will set no
[50:19] wicked thing before mine eyes. If you're
[50:22] going to live a holy life, you got to be
[50:24] careful what you look at.
[50:27] You got to be on guard.
[50:30] If you missed, if you're a man and you
[50:32] missed Saturday's men's breakfast, we
[50:34] talked about it in detail.
[50:40] Watch ye stand fast in the faith. Quit
[50:42] you like men. Be strong.
[50:45] Be on guard. You can't afford to take a
[50:49] day off. You can't afford to take an
[50:51] hour off. You can't afford to take a
[50:54] minute off.
[50:56] Because Ephesians 4:27 says, "Neither
[50:59] give place to the devil."
[51:01] He doesn't come in the front door. He's
[51:05] looking for a hole in the wall that he
[51:07] can slither in cuz his character is like
[51:09] a snake.
[51:14] So, you're dealing with pornography in
[51:16] your life. Set no wicked thing before
[51:18] mine eye. Mine eye affectth mine heart.
[51:23] You may need to put up some guards.
[51:27] You may say, "I can't handle the
[51:28] internet on my own."
[51:31] Okay, I'll set no wicked thing.
[51:36] Lamentate. Mine eye affected mine heart.
[51:40] By the way, in case you're wondering,
[51:44] you don't end up in full-blown
[51:47] pornography
[51:49] if you're not having appetizers
[51:53] in sexual
[51:55] promiscuity
[51:58] videos and pictures.
[52:01] You don't end up all the way over into
[52:04] graphic pornography if you're not
[52:07] feeding the lust over here.
[52:10] with the appetizer of sexually explicit
[52:13] things
[52:15] as it just increases into more and more
[52:19] ungodliness.
[52:21] Hey, he that thinkketh he standeth, take
[52:23] heed lest he fall. Yes, we can all be
[52:25] tempted,
[52:28] but you got to have some ammunition to
[52:30] battle your temptation. Jesus said, "It
[52:32] is written." It is written. It is
[52:35] written. Why did he do it? Cuz we need
[52:37] it.
[52:38] What about worry?
[52:41] When you're tempted to worry,
[52:45] what's your verse?
[52:47] Where are you going to go to battle
[52:48] worry? What's your ammunition?
[52:51] I'll just give you a couple. Philippians
[52:53] 4:6. 1 Peter 5:7.
[52:58] 1 Peter 5:7. Casting all your care upon
[53:01] him because he carth for you.
[53:05] Philippians 4:6.
[53:10] What about the temptation of fear? When
[53:13] you're tempted to be afraid, where's
[53:15] your verse? Where's your ammunition?
[53:19] Psalm 56:3.
[53:21] What time I am afraid, I will trust in
[53:25] thee. There's going to be a time that I
[53:27] have a temptation to be a feared.
[53:31] What time I am afraid, I will trust in
[53:34] thee. 2 Timothy 1:7 is another one. For
[53:37] God had not given us the spirit of fear,
[53:39] but of power and of love and of a sound
[53:43] mind.
[53:46] Temptation.
[53:51] Everybody's got to deal with it. But
[53:53] what's your ammunition to battle the
[53:55] temptation?
[53:58] Laziness.
[54:00] When you're tempted to be lazy,
[54:04] where's your what's your verse?
[54:07] What's your ammunition, young person?
[54:10] When you're tempted not to work, not to
[54:13] put forth effort, to put things off,
[54:17] what's your verse? What's your
[54:18] ammunition?
[54:21] Colossians chapter 3 and verse number
[54:25] 23.
[54:27] Colossians chapter 3 and verse number
[54:30] 23.
[54:34] What we're doing, we're to do it hardily
[54:38] as unto the Lord and not unto man.
[54:44] Whatever you're going to do, do it unto
[54:47] the Lord. Well, I'm just vacuuming
[54:49] floors at the church. You're doing it
[54:51] for the Lord. I'm just sweeping out the
[54:54] bus. I'm doing it for the Lord. I'm just
[54:57] doing whatever it is. I'm just clocking
[55:00] in at work and I'm doing the bare
[55:03] minimum at work. Well, you do the bare
[55:06] minimum hardily as unto the Lord and see
[55:08] what God tells you about it.
[55:14] >> Because by the way, you don't work for
[55:15] the company. You work for the Lord.
[55:18] >> Do it heartily as unto the Lord and not
[55:20] unto men.
[55:24] Now, good news is I'm not giving you
[55:26] every temptation. That's the last one on
[55:28] the list tonight.
[55:30] But there's a thing that every believer
[55:33] ought to have or have access to. It's
[55:37] called a concordance.
[55:39] I recommend Strong's concordance.
[55:43] It's real thick. Like real thick.
[55:47] Strong's concordance. You can go look up
[55:50] a word
[55:52] and find it all the verses in scripture
[55:56] that talk about it.
[55:58] You can go look up the word. It'll give
[56:01] you reference after reference after
[56:04] reference. And you know what they've
[56:05] done? They have digitized it. So now you
[56:07] can go to a website and you can do type
[56:10] it in on a website search engine and
[56:12] it'll do it for you. You can get a Bible
[56:15] app on your smartphone that has keys to
[56:18] the Strong's concordance where it can
[56:20] look up the word. right in your Bible
[56:22] app to the Strongs Concordance and help
[56:24] you get a definition, help you find the
[56:27] word. You can go into the New Testament.
[56:30] It'll give you the definition of the
[56:32] word, but it also will key give you a
[56:35] number to go to the Greek language for
[56:40] the New Testament. And you can look in
[56:42] the original languages, what that word
[56:44] is and what that word means.
[56:47] In the Old Testament, it'll give you a
[56:49] number that you can go to a part of a
[56:51] dictionary that has the Hebrew Aramaic
[56:54] interpretation of that Hebrew word and
[56:57] you can know what it means in the
[56:59] original language.
[57:01] Now, there are a multitude of
[57:04] concordances. There's a crudin
[57:05] concordance, there's a Young's
[57:07] concordance, there's a strong
[57:09] concordance. When I teach teachers about
[57:11] teaching, I talk about all three. The
[57:15] analogy is this. Crudens is very small.
[57:18] It's the thinnest one. Crudens is for
[57:20] the crude. It doesn't have everything
[57:22] about it. Young's is for the young. It's
[57:25] a little bit thicker, but it doesn't
[57:26] have all the words of the Bible. The
[57:28] Strong's exhaustive is what it says.
[57:30] Exhaustive.
[57:32] Of course, it's got every word and every
[57:35] verse reference.
[57:36] So, you got a temptation, you deal with
[57:38] fear. Well, my temptation is that I play
[57:41] PlayStation too much. So, but I don't
[57:44] know a PlayStation verse you that the
[57:47] Bible doesn't say the word PlayStation
[57:48] in it. No, but the Bible does say
[57:51] whether for you eat or drink or
[57:52] whatsoever you do, do all to the glory
[57:54] of God. And if it's taking away from
[57:57] your time with God, then you need to
[58:00] make an adjustment.
[58:02] Well, all I'm doing is this or all I'm
[58:05] doing is that, you need to make sure you
[58:08] have a reference for temptation.
[58:13] Well, all I'm doing is, you know, I I
[58:15] just
[58:17] and I'm not talking to this crowd so
[58:18] much because you came on Sunday night,
[58:20] but all I want to do is just show up on
[58:22] Sunday morning for the main service.
[58:24] Well, what's your temptation to stay
[58:27] home and nap? What's your scripture
[58:30] reference to help with that? I think
[58:32] there's one in Hebrews says, "Forsake
[58:35] not the assembling of yourselves
[58:37] together as the manner of some is."
[58:41] and so much the more as you see the day
[58:44] approaching.
[58:46] So
[58:49] Jesus said, "It is written, it is
[58:51] written, it is written
[58:54] for our enample, for our benefit to
[58:59] battle temptation."
[59:02] Now I want you to remember back in
[59:03] Matthew chapter 4, he was led of the
[59:06] spirit. Spirit led people battle
[59:08] temptation.
[59:11] Spirit-ledd people battle temptation.
[59:16] Flesh-ledd people give in to temptation.
[59:20] So,
[59:22] in the last 48 hours,
[59:27] have you been spiritled battling
[59:29] temptation
[59:30] or fleshly giving into temptation?
[59:34] Evaluate it.
[59:36] You may find yourself giving into
[59:39] temptation because you don't have any
[59:41] ammunition
[59:45] because you haven't found your verse.
[59:49] You don't have it memorized. You haven't
[59:52] put it in your heart.
[59:55] You're not hanging on to it.
[59:58] If you don't have the ammunition of it
[60:00] is written,
[60:02] the tempter's going to keep coming your
[60:04] way.
[60:07] You know what happens if you keep giving
[60:09] into temptation and keep giving into
[60:10] temptation and keep giving in? You don't
[60:13] even have to tempt.
[60:15] You're just drawn away of your own lust.
[60:18] Your own fleshly desires.
[60:21] If you keep feeding it, it will want
[60:25] more and more.
[60:30] Now, I'm going to be nice
[60:33] when I don't want to be nice because
[60:36] there is a creature that I've not found
[60:37] a scripture reference for in the Bible,
[60:40] and I hold to the fact that it's not in
[60:42] the Bible because I don't know if it's
[60:43] of God or not, and that's cats.
[60:47] I haven't found one in there. Now, some
[60:49] of you don't get mad at me because I
[60:50] know you love the little kitty cats.
[60:55] But you know what happens? There's some
[60:57] people that have cats and then there's
[60:59] some people who have mercy on cats.
[61:02] They have mercy and they feed the cats
[61:05] in the neighborhood.
[61:09] At our house, there was a season where
[61:13] there was a cat that came by and the
[61:16] kids fed it for just a little bit.
[61:19] And then it kept coming and it kept
[61:22] coming and it kept coming and then it
[61:26] disappeared
[61:28] and quit coming. You know why it quit
[61:30] coming? Because they quit feeding it.
[61:34] The cat stayed away. Now some of you
[61:37] have so much more mercy and grace than
[61:39] the preacher. Because you keep feeding
[61:41] the cats and you love those kittens. And
[61:43] I don't understand why.
[61:48] Three different times in my life. When I
[61:50] was twice when I was younger than once
[61:52] in my married life, I have been attacked
[61:55] by cats. They hate me.
[61:58] I was at my in-laws
[62:00] in the bed asleep. And the bedroom that
[62:03] I was staying in is where their cat
[62:06] stayed at times. That cat in the middle
[62:09] of the night jumped on my face and
[62:12] clawed my face cuz I was in its bed.
[62:17] That cat then almost became absent from
[62:20] the body
[62:22] as I grabbed it and flung it across the
[62:24] room.
[62:28] My wife came in to the room and said,
[62:30] "What did you do? Why'd you make it
[62:33] mad?" I didn't.
[62:36] I was sound asleep and the demon cat
[62:40] attacked.
[62:45] I'm not bitter. I'm not
[62:48] I have I've been looking for a scripture
[62:50] verse to battle the temptation and I
[62:52] haven't found anything in the Bible
[62:53] about cats.
[62:55] So, I'm holding to the position I don't
[62:56] know if they're of God or not. Even Even
[62:59] the Wicked Disney, all of the wicked
[63:02] animals, they're all cats.
[63:05] You go and look
[63:08] one of the old Disney movies, what they
[63:10] named their cat Lucifer. Come on.
[63:15] you just
[63:18] but if you keep feeding them, they keep
[63:20] coming. And some of you have so much
[63:22] grace and mercy that you love the little
[63:24] kitties and you just keep feeding them
[63:27] and you keep feeding them. Now, it's
[63:30] okay for cats in the community, for
[63:32] those people who love little cats to
[63:34] keep feeding them. But is not good when
[63:36] you're battling temptation and lust to
[63:39] keep feeding your lust. It'll keep
[63:41] coming back.
[63:43] You got to starve it.
[63:47] You have to starve it.
[63:50] Now that's with lust, not the cats.
[63:52] Don't starve the cats. Feed the little
[63:54] kittens. All you people that God has
[63:56] called you to the cat ministry. All
[63:59] right? You keep doing it. All right? You
[64:02] keep feeding the little kittens and the
[64:04] little cats.
[64:07] But when it comes to lust, if you keep
[64:08] feeding them, they will come back. Now,
[64:10] if you live out in the country, it's the
[64:12] same with raccoons. They keep coming
[64:13] back. If you don't tie stuff up, it'll
[64:16] keep coming back.
[64:22] In our life,
[64:24] we're going to be tempted,
[64:27] but God gave us ammunition
[64:30] to battle the temptation.
[64:33] You find yourself constantly giving in
[64:36] to temptation. It is because you don't
[64:39] have any ammunition.
[64:44] But he already wrote it down.
[64:48] He already has it for you.
[64:50] The problem is you don't have it
[64:54] in your possession and in your
[64:57] recollection to battle the enemy.
[65:01] Have you been spirit led the last 48
[65:03] hours? Or have you been flesh and gave
[65:06] into temptation? Would you stand with
[65:08] your heads bowed and eyes closed? We ask
[65:11] our piano player to come. I didn't list
[65:13] all the temptations.
[65:16] There's a lot more that you may battle
[65:18] with specifically to you, but God's got
[65:21] a verse.
[65:23] He wrote it down on how to battle.
[65:26] You say, "Well, it's a more modern
[65:29] thing, so I can't find that word in the
[65:30] Bible." There's a principle there that
[65:32] God would help you with
[65:34] tonight. Do you have the ammunition you
[65:37] need in your possession to battle
[65:41] temptation?
[65:42] Lord, I pray tonight you'd help us to
[65:44] respond to your word.
[65:47] Lord, there are people in the room that
[65:49] in the last 48 hours they have given in
[65:52] and been fleshed
[65:54] and not spiritled.
[65:58] Lord, help us to First John 1:9.
[66:04] If we confess our sins, he's faithful
[66:06] and just to forgive us our sins and to
[66:09] cleanse us from all unrighteous. Help us
[66:11] to First John 1:9,
[66:14] our flesh temptation we gave into.
[66:17] Help us to name it.
[66:22] Lord, I pray you'd help us tonight
[66:25] to commit
[66:27] to getting our scripture ammunition
[66:29] ready for the next temptation
[66:33] that comes our way.
[66:35] Lord, I pray you'd help us
[66:38] draw nigh to you. In your name I pray.
[66:41] Amen. As the piano begins to play, you
[66:43] do business with God tonight. Altars are
[66:46] open.
[67:03] Hallelujah.
[67:51] piano continues [music] to play. What
[67:53] about you?
[67:54] What's the name of your temptation
[67:58] that you keep struggling with?
[68:02] Maybe we mentioned it tonight, maybe we
[68:04] didn't. What's the name of it?
[68:07] How are you going to battle it?
[68:12] What's your verse?
[68:14] Jesus said, "It [music] is written. It
[68:16] is written. It is written." Why? It's
[68:18] the way of escape.
[68:22] Psalm [music] 119:11, "Thy word have I
[68:24] hid in my heart that I might not sin."
[68:28] [music] Sin
[68:30] will keep you from this book. And this
[68:32] book can keep you from sin.
[68:37] If you know how to use it,
[68:41] that's why you got to know what you
[68:42] believe, why you believe it, and where
[68:47] you [singing] can find it.
[69:02] All God's people saying, "Amen." If you
[69:05] have your himnels, him 195, glory to his
[69:10] name. Glory to his [music] name. Let's
[69:12] sing it out [singing] together. Himm
[69:14] 195, glory to his name.
[69:21] Down [music] at the cross [singing]
[69:22] where my Savior died, down where for
[69:27] cleansing from sin [music] I cried,
[69:30] [singing]
[69:31] there to my heart was the blood of life.
[69:36] Gloryy to [singing] his name. Sing it
[69:40] out. Gloryy to his [singing and music]
[69:44] name.
[69:46] Glory to his name.
[69:51] There to my heart [music and singing]
[69:53] was above.
[69:56] Glory to his word.
[70:01] Amen. You are [music] dismissed.
[70:25] Heat. Heat.
[70:30] [music]
[70:33] Heat.
[70:44] Heat.
[70:53] Heat. Heat.
[71:02] [music]
[71:14] [music]
