[0:27] in

[0:28] revelation chapter number 18 and we're

[0:30] going to look at verses 1

[0:32] through 3. the bible says and after

[0:35] these things

[0:36] i saw another angel come down from

[0:38] heaven

[0:39] having great power and the earth was

[0:41] lightened with his glory

[0:43] and he cried mightily with a strong

[0:45] voice saying babylon the great

[0:47] is fallen is fallen and it is become the

[0:51] habitation of devils

[0:52] and the hold of every foul spirit in a

[0:55] cage of every unclean

[0:57] and hateful bird for all nations have

[1:00] drunk of the wine of the wrath of her

[1:02] fornication

[1:03] and the kings of earth have committed

[1:05] fornication with her

[1:06] and the merchants of earth are waxed

[1:08] rich through the abundance

[1:10] of her delicacies now while in

[1:13] revelation 17

[1:14] we've talked about over the last few

[1:16] weeks presented the collapse of the

[1:18] ecclesiastical or religious babylon

[1:21] chapter 18 deals with the collapse of

[1:24] the commercial economic

[1:26] and political babylon chapter 17 as you

[1:30] know clearly referred to rome

[1:32] as the ecclesiastical babylon it has

[1:35] adopted the practices of ancient

[1:37] babylonian worship

[1:39] which started back with nimrod and his

[1:41] family

[1:42] its influence and power stretched around

[1:45] the world and continues even till this

[1:47] day

[1:48] chapter 18 on the other hand clearly

[1:50] deals with another aspect of babylon

[1:53] and though it shows the collapse of what

[1:55] appears to be

[1:56] a literal city of babylon it's in

[2:00] chapter 18 that the world market will

[2:02] collapse

[2:03] all because babylon falls now this might

[2:06] be understood by relating it to the wall

[2:08] street of new york city

[2:11] is to the world's economy though it's a

[2:13] real place it also has a stock market

[2:16] for much of the world and when it falls

[2:19] as it did in 1929

[2:21] all the markets of the world fell with

[2:23] it

[2:24] it is important to note though that the

[2:26] antichrist is going to function

[2:28] out of three cities of the world first

[2:31] he'll function out of rome

[2:33] for political purposes second he'll make

[2:36] function out of babylon where he will

[2:38] develop and direct his worldwide

[2:40] financial empire

[2:42] and the original babylon was built as

[2:44] babel

[2:45] and was located in the country of modern

[2:47] day iraq

[2:48] along with the euphrates river during

[2:50] the days of nimrod

[2:52] now nimrod was the great grandson of

[2:54] noah

[2:55] genesis chapter 10 verses 6 through 10.

[2:58] it was this kingdom that was recognized

[3:00] as the world's power in daniel's day

[3:03] and ruled by nebuchadnezzar it was this

[3:06] kingdom that the nation of judah was

[3:08] banished to

[3:09] for 70 years note psalm 137 verse 1

[3:13] there

[3:14] where the writer speaks about the people

[3:16] weeping over jerusalem by

[3:18] the rivers of babylon now the spirit of

[3:21] babylon is represented in the sense that

[3:23] it speaks of man's attempt

[3:26] to function without god as illustrated

[3:29] in the scriptures

[3:30] when nimrod decided to build the tower

[3:32] of babel

[3:33] it is the doctrine that is going on

[3:35] today and says

[3:37] i don't need god i can do it by myself

[3:40] it is the doctrine of humanism

[3:43] commercial babylon fits

[3:45] right into this mindset just as the

[3:48] religious babylon was destroyed for want

[3:50] of god

[3:51] so also is political babylon destroyed

[3:54] one does not need to go very far before

[3:57] realizing that god

[3:58] is being eased out of today's society

[4:02] in fact if you were with us on sunday i

[4:04] preached a message very similar to that

[4:07] independence is great but dependence on

[4:09] god

[4:10] is needful now because of chapter 18

[4:13] those first few words and

[4:15] after these things it indicates that the

[4:18] chronological order

[4:20] in events that takes place in chapters

[4:23] 17 and 18

[4:24] are different religious babylon falls in

[4:27] chapter

[4:28] 17 and then commercial babylon plunges

[4:31] in chapter 18.

[4:32] chapter 17 as we mentioned that

[4:35] religious babylon falls sometime

[4:37] during the middle of the tribulation

[4:39] period

[4:40] when the antichrist proclaims himself to

[4:43] be god

[4:45] but with chapter 18 the fall here and

[4:47] after these things this presents some

[4:49] arguments

[4:50] which say some different things so i

[4:52] want to point out some things to you

[4:54] today

[4:54] it says then after these things i saw

[4:56] another angel come down from heaven

[4:59] so this angel's different than the other

[5:01] seven angels that have been dealing the

[5:03] trumpet or excuse me the vile judgments

[5:06] of god

[5:06] the bold judgments so because of this

[5:10] different angel it says in verse 2

[5:12] babylon the great is

[5:13] fallen is fallen now it repeats itself

[5:17] is fallen as fallen in a two-fold

[5:19] statement

[5:20] now john is the writer of the book of

[5:23] revelation now

[5:24] john in his gospel writing of the book

[5:26] of john

[5:27] uses the phrase verily verily truly true

[5:30] verily verily as for emphasis so it

[5:33] could be that is fallen is fallen

[5:35] is for emphasis of the severity

[5:39] of the fall it also could be that is

[5:42] fallen is fallen

[5:43] references that part of it fell in

[5:46] religious babylon

[5:47] and now it's fallen completely with the

[5:50] commercial babylonian

[5:52] fall i'm not for certain which one it is

[5:55] but the fall is great and the fall is at

[5:58] two different times so both applications

[6:00] would be

[6:01] correct through scripture and it talks

[6:04] about

[6:04] babylon the great being fallen so

[6:08] here we must look at some arguments that

[6:10] exist

[6:11] about what chapter 17 and 18 deal with

[6:14] number one argument is both babylons are

[6:17] the same city

[6:19] rome this apparently is supported with

[6:22] verses out of revelation

[6:23] 17 and chapter 18 that share similar

[6:27] information so both are called babylon

[6:30] one in chapter 17 verse 5

[6:32] the other in chapter 18 verse 2. both

[6:35] are called cities

[6:37] chapter 17 verse 18 chapter 18 verse 10.

[6:41] both are referred to in the feminine

[6:43] gender

[6:44] chapter 17 verse 5 chapter 18 verse

[6:48] 7. both mention that kings and nations

[6:51] had committed fornication with her

[6:53] chapter 17 verse 2 chapter 18 verse 3

[6:58] both mention being responsible for the

[7:00] death of godly martyrs

[7:02] chapter 17 verse 6 chapter 18 verse 24

[7:06] because of this it would be easy to say

[7:09] that they were one

[7:11] and the same place so chapter 17

[7:14] 18. that's one argument that it's the

[7:17] city of rome

[7:19] number two argument the second babylon

[7:21] is

[7:22] literal rebuilt babylon now this

[7:25] seems to conflict with such passages as

[7:27] isaiah 13

[7:29] and jeremiah 50 and 51 which teach that

[7:32] babylon would not be rebuilt

[7:35] closer examinations of these events

[7:37] reveal that not all the events that were

[7:39] predicted about babylon in those days

[7:42] ever occurred so in chapter 50 51

[7:45] it says that it would not be rebuilt

[7:48] but also there's prophecies that say for

[7:50] instance in isaiah 13 19

[7:52] predicts that babylon would fall as when

[7:55] god overthrew sodom and gomorrah

[7:57] sodom and gomorrah fell with fire and

[7:59] brimstone in genesis 19 24

[8:02] but that is not how babylon fell when it

[8:04] was taken over by the medes and the

[8:06] persians

[8:07] under king cyrus in bc 538

[8:11] further isaiah 13 9 reveals that this

[8:14] would happen

[8:15] as the day of the lord cometh so before

[8:18] christ's coming to judge the world

[8:20] now this lines up with what chapter 18

[8:23] says

[8:23] in revelation the understanding

[8:27] that babylon would never be inhabited as

[8:30] after its destruction as isaiah 13

[8:33] verses 20 through 22

[8:35] teach let me read those to you it says

[8:37] this

[8:38] it shall never be inhabited neither

[8:40] shall it be dwelt

[8:42] in from generation to generation neither

[8:44] shall the arabian pitch tenth there

[8:47] neither shall the shepherds make their

[8:48] fold there but wild beasts of the desert

[8:51] shall lie there

[8:52] their houses shall be full of dolphin

[8:54] creatures

[8:55] and owls shall dwell there and satur

[8:57] shall dance there

[8:58] and the wild beasts of the island shall

[9:01] cry in their desolate houses

[9:03] and dragons in their pleasant palaces

[9:05] and her time is near to come and her

[9:08] days shall not be

[9:09] prolonged now as i mentioned it would

[9:12] never be inhabited as that teaches

[9:15] has not been fulfilled yet records show

[9:18] that after

[9:19] cyrus took babylon in

[9:22] when he took it in 538 that

[9:25] cyrus after that xerxes took it in bc

[9:29] 478

[9:30] then alexander the great took over

[9:33] babylon in bc 331.

[9:36] then solusis in bc293

[9:40] in fact in the new testament peter wrote

[9:43] a letter from a church

[9:45] in babylon at about 80 60-64 first peter

[9:49] 5 13

[9:50] which says that the church that is at

[9:52] babylon

[9:54] elected together with you saluteth you

[9:56] and so doth mark is my son

[9:58] so babylon even in first peter is

[10:01] recorded having

[10:02] people there records continue to show

[10:05] that babylon continued

[10:07] to be inhabited during the 5th century

[10:10] when the babylonian talmud was written

[10:12] and in fact in 1985 saddam hussein began

[10:16] to reconstruct the city of babylon

[10:19] in iraq though it was forestalled by the

[10:22] war

[10:23] it was a dream of the nation of iraq to

[10:25] rebuild

[10:26] it with the wealth of that part of the

[10:28] world and the ingenuity of certain

[10:30] sheikhs there

[10:31] this may be a dream that is soon

[10:33] realized in fact in 2020

[10:36] the historical society of restoration in

[10:38] iraq is

[10:39] trying to bring about a movement to

[10:42] restore

[10:43] babylon to its glory i don't

[10:46] know if it's going to ever happen but

[10:48] it's a process that they're talking

[10:50] about

[10:51] argument number three these two babylons

[10:54] represent

[10:55] two systems since babylon of chapter 17

[10:59] represents a system of religion

[11:02] that is devoid of god then it's

[11:04] reasonable to represent that the

[11:06] babylonian of chapter 18

[11:08] is a system of government that is devoid

[11:11] of god

[11:12] now this could make the wall street the

[11:14] babylonian marketplace

[11:16] which will fall in the day and bring

[11:18] about a worldwide collapse of a

[11:20] marketplace

[11:22] some would say also that this could be

[11:25] the city of new york

[11:27] it could be new york city with the stock

[11:30] market there

[11:31] the u.n nations there the melting pot of

[11:34] the world

[11:35] there and all the traveling and all the

[11:37] people there that it could be

[11:39] new york city here's the concluding

[11:41] result that we've come to

[11:42] in studying this passage although god is

[11:45] more concerned with the system of

[11:47] babylon

[11:48] than he is with its geography it does

[11:51] seem that there are

[11:52] two cities involved here because of the

[11:56] evidence is disclosed above and because

[11:58] babylon was used and hated by the kings

[12:01] and nations of the world

[12:02] so that they burned her with fire in

[12:04] chapter 17 verse 16

[12:07] and because the world in 9 in an

[12:10] opposite manner

[12:11] lamented its fall revelation 18

[12:15] 9 says this let me turn to that page

[12:18] and the kings of the earth who have

[12:20] committed fornication

[12:22] and lived deliciously with her shall

[12:24] bewail her

[12:25] and lament for her when they shall see

[12:28] the smoke

[12:29] of her burning but in chapter 17 verse

[12:32] 16

[12:33] it says the ten horns which thou sawest

[12:35] upon the beast these shall hate the

[12:38] and shall make her desolate and naked

[12:40] and shall eat her flesh and burn her

[12:42] with fire

[12:43] those ten kings be ten horns being ten

[12:47] kings ten nations so the people there

[12:50] involved

[12:50] hate religious babylon and these people

[12:54] here

[12:55] lament and cry out and weep for

[12:58] commercial babylon

[13:01] it stands to reason that this chapter

[13:03] presents two different

[13:05] cities it's safe to say that what

[13:07] happens to one city

[13:09] will include the other when god reigns

[13:11] his judgments upon them

[13:13] if this is true then the babylon of

[13:15] chapter 18 must be rebuilt

[13:17] now if for no other reason then it can

[13:19] be destroyed in god's way as is

[13:21] described

[13:22] in the books of isaiah jeremiah and

[13:25] revelation

[13:26] so what does that mean for you and i

[13:28] today it means this

[13:31] from a bible study of chapter 18 we have

[13:33] determined

[13:34] that there is a religious system that's

[13:37] headquartered

[13:38] in rome during chapter 17 that is

[13:42] destroyed

[13:43] by god's direction through the

[13:45] antichrist and his

[13:47] 10 confederate kingdom in chapter 18

[13:51] there's a financial political system

[13:53] that is destroyed by the commandment of

[13:56] god

[13:57] and it is headquartered in some city

[14:01] i don't know which city yet it hasn't

[14:04] been revealed

[14:05] what city but when it says in verse

[14:08] number nine

[14:09] that they're going to see her

[14:12] burning there has to be a location

[14:16] so there is a location that is different

[14:20] than the religious babylon location

[14:24] now could that location still be wrong

[14:26] it's possible

[14:28] could that location be rebuilt babylon

[14:31] it's possible could that location be

[14:34] new york city it's possible

[14:37] but we do know that the system and

[14:40] the location itself will be destroyed

[14:45] in chapter 18. it says in verse 2 that

[14:48] it's fallen is fallen it's become the

[14:51] inhabitation of

[14:52] devils and the hold of every foul spirit

[14:56] the cage of every unclean and hateful

[14:58] bird

[15:00] the place that's going to be destroyed

[15:01] is going to be housing demonic forces

[15:05] during the end of the tribulation period

[15:07] now i want to remind you of something

[15:09] as we mentioned chapter 17 religious

[15:11] babylon falls during

[15:13] the middle of the tribulation period

[15:16] chapter 18

[15:17] that babylon falls later on in the

[15:20] tribulation period

[15:21] it is not the same day that jesus christ

[15:25] returns because it says that people

[15:27] lament

[15:28] and mourn and we'll talk more about why

[15:31] they do that

[15:32] in next week's video and so there has to

[15:35] be a time

[15:36] frame after the destruction for people

[15:39] to mourn for something

[15:41] if there's a period of mourning there

[15:44] has to be a time frame for that

[15:47] so later on after the midway point

[15:50] between the midway point and jesus

[15:52] christ return

[15:53] which is in chapter 19. also in

[15:56] chapter 18 there are those who think

[15:58] that the angel returning

[16:00] is jesus christ himself i do not see

[16:03] that here

[16:04] in our text there are those who teach

[16:07] that it appears this

[16:08] angel is a representation angel that god

[16:11] has sent to to cry

[16:13] out that babylon is fallen it talks

[16:16] about

[16:17] the reason why and we'll talk about it

[16:19] next week why babylon falls this

[16:21] political financial system

[16:24] but here in chapter 18 we want to remind

[16:26] you of this that there is a

[16:28] a system of financial and governmental

[16:32] babylon that will be headquartered

[16:35] somewhere

[16:36] and later on in the tribulation period

[16:38] after religious babylon has fallen

[16:41] financial babylon will fall and the

[16:44] world will lament

[16:46] about the destruction of it so i want to

[16:48] thank you again for taking the time to
