[0:00] your way.
[0:02] >> I've actually killed a person. And I
[0:04] remember hearing rounds hit the building
[0:06] behind me and kind of tear against the
[0:09] building and continue on past.
[0:10] >> A street is a kill zone. It [music]
[0:12] basically channelizes the enemy's
[0:14] bullets and frontals them down a one-way
[0:16] corridor.
[0:17] >> And then
[0:19] all of a sudden, my, you know, my leg
[0:20] just seized up and I started falling
[0:23] backwards. As attack choppers provide
[0:26] cover, Goodale is pulled to a nearby
[0:28] building where his buddies give him
[0:29] first aid. And he first shows the sense
[0:32] of humor that would make him legendary
[0:34] in the firefight.
[0:35] >> Actually, as it turns out, I did get
[0:36] shot in the leg, but the first place I
[0:39] got uh I I felt the pain was in my left
[0:42] butt cheek. Um so I I of course had to
[0:47] make some jokes about getting shot in
[0:49] the butt. Goodale was the jokester in a
[0:51] 15-man unit assigned to this Blackhawk
[0:54] chopper cenamed Super 64, piloted by
[0:57] Mike Durant. With Blackhawk 61 now
[1:00] crashed, Blackhawk 64, which had been
[1:02] orbiting over the desert after the
[1:04] Rangers roped in, join smaller attack
[1:06] choppers called AH6 Little Birds that
[1:09] are swooping down on attacking Somali.
[1:12] Their miniguns firing 6,000 rounds per
[1:14] minute. Somali fire back. 62 is uh
[1:18] taking fairly regular RPG fire and
[1:20] they're all close.
[1:22] >> Minutes later, during a gun run over the
[1:24] crash site, a Somali RPG rocket
[1:27] propelled grenade slams into the
[1:28] Blackhawk 64's tail rotor.
[1:48] As soon as we saw the aircraft coming
[1:50] down, we ran toward the crash site and
[1:52] cordoned it off.
