[0:17] of having faith in the scriptures
[0:19] so i want you to take your bibles and go
[0:21] to second timothy chapter three
[0:23] we're going to read verses 13 through 17
[0:26] this morning
[0:27] second timothy chapter 3 verses 13 to
[0:29] 17.
[0:30] go ahead get your bible out get your
[0:33] bible app open up whatever you need
[0:35] and let's turn there this morning are
[0:38] you there
[0:39] good the bible says but evil men and
[0:42] seducers
[0:43] shall wax worse and worse deceiving and
[0:46] being deceived
[0:48] but continue thou in the things which
[0:50] thou hast learned
[0:52] knowing of whom thou hast learned them
[0:55] and that from a child thou hast known
[0:57] the holy scriptures
[0:59] which shall be able to make thee wise
[1:02] unto salvation through faith which is in
[1:04] christ jesus
[1:05] all scripture is given by inspiration of
[1:08] god
[1:08] and is profitable for doctrine for
[1:10] reproof for correction for instruction
[1:13] in righteousness
[1:14] that the man of god may be perfect truly
[1:16] furnished unto
[1:17] all good works let's have a word of
[1:20] prayer this morning we'll dive into our
[1:21] lesson today dear heavenly father lord
[1:23] we're so thankful
[1:24] for the opportunity to come to you in
[1:26] prayer lord we pray today
[1:28] for our session time together lord that
[1:30] you would be pleased
[1:32] and everything would be an encouragement
[1:33] and a help to those that watch this
[1:36] video in your name i pray
[1:37] amen here the apostle paul he's
[1:40] concerned about theological
[1:42] defection and deviating from sound
[1:46] doctrine contained in the scriptures now
[1:48] in
[1:49] this passage in second timothy chapter
[1:51] three look what he says in verse number
[1:53] 1
[1:54] this know also that in the last days oh
[1:56] how we're living in the last days that
[1:58] perilous times shall come for men shall
[2:01] be lovers of their own selves covetous
[2:03] boasters proud blasphemers
[2:05] disobedient to parents unthankful unholy
[2:09] without natural affection truth breakers
[2:11] false accusers
[2:13] incontent fierce despisers of those that
[2:16] are good
[2:17] traitors heady high-minded lovers of
[2:19] pleasure more than lovers of god
[2:21] having a form of godliness but denying
[2:23] the power thereof
[2:25] from such turn away in verse number one
[2:28] he reveals the dangers
[2:30] of the perils of apostasy
[2:33] the danger of apostasy in verses two
[2:36] through nine we read a
[2:37] section there of that he reveals the
[2:39] descriptions
[2:41] or the properties of apostasy look what
[2:43] they are all those characteristics of
[2:45] them
[2:45] verse six for of this sword are they
[2:47] which creep in the houses
[2:49] and lead captive silly women laded with
[2:51] sins led away with diverse lusts
[2:54] ever learning and never able to come
[2:55] unto the knowledge of the truth
[2:58] now not a now is james and jamborees
[3:01] which did moses so there also resists
[3:03] the truth
[3:04] meaning corrupt minds reparate
[3:06] concerning
[3:07] the faith there are some descriptions of
[3:09] some people who struggle
[3:11] with the danger of apostasy verses 10
[3:14] through 17
[3:15] reveals the deliverance or the how to
[3:18] have the protection
[3:19] from this apostasy you know we live in
[3:22] an area of
[3:23] theological deception and defection
[3:26] liberalism here in in america especially
[3:29] denies the
[3:30] credibility of god's word they say it's
[3:32] just another book
[3:34] it's nothing special it doesn't have any
[3:36] power
[3:37] it's just like any other book and they
[3:39] deny the credibility
[3:40] or they they even go after the writings
[3:43] themselves
[3:45] neo-orthodoxy denies the identity
[3:48] of god's word the identity of it the
[3:51] evangelical movement even has begun to
[3:54] deny the reliability
[3:56] of god's word and they say to us it's
[3:58] really not
[3:59] dependable it could say this it could
[4:01] mean that they
[4:03] have their own private interpretations
[4:06] of what scripture is saying now there's
[4:09] some ways that they do this is
[4:11] that they say that there's no
[4:12] historicity the adam and eve were not
[4:14] real people
[4:16] they believed in theological the
[4:17] theistic evolution that
[4:19] god used evolution to bring about the
[4:21] course of this world
[4:23] they they say that there's a errant
[4:26] infallibility that god's word is not
[4:28] infallible
[4:29] now if you've been with us through the
[4:30] series you know that we believe here at
[4:32] bible baptist church that we have the
[4:33] infallible preserved
[4:35] word of god a fundamentalist should
[4:38] continue to trust the scripture
[4:40] and let it speak for itself the bible
[4:43] baptist church we're
[4:44] independent that means we're
[4:45] self-governing we're fundamental we hold
[4:47] to the truths of the word of god
[4:49] and its purpose is there here in second
[4:51] timothy paul affirms his undiminished
[4:53] confidence
[4:55] and the absolute infallibility
[4:58] of god's word he unfolds the marvel of
[5:01] the scripture and sheds light on its
[5:03] most powerful
[5:04] characteristics the character of god's
[5:07] word let's look at verse 13 and from a
[5:08] child thou hast known the
[5:10] holy scriptures holy scriptures
[5:13] their sacred writings the phrasing there
[5:16] tahereh garamata
[5:18] the message is directly from god
[5:21] it has a harmonious hold you know how
[5:24] many books are in the bible
[5:26] how many that's right 66 books
[5:29] do you know how many authors 40 authors
[5:33] 40 writers that pinned over 1500 to 1600
[5:38] years it took to compose the word of god
[5:41] it's woven together by one central
[5:44] personality
[5:45] jesus christ jesus is seen throughout
[5:47] the whole book
[5:49] it is filled with timeless issues god
[5:52] and man
[5:53] sin salvation time and eternity
[5:57] heaven and hell creation and redemption
[6:01] the bible is such a unique book it's
[6:03] universal in its appeal
[6:05] the writer a t pearson not p e a r
[6:08] pearson but p
[6:08] i e r pearson said this the bible
[6:12] is the greatest traveler in the world
[6:15] the bible is the greatest traveler in
[6:17] the world the word penetrates
[6:18] every country civilized or uncivilized
[6:21] when people get a hold of the word of
[6:23] god it changes their lives
[6:25] secondly the word is seen in the palace
[6:28] and in the poor house
[6:30] the bible is not distinct uh it's only
[6:34] going to be for the rich people or the
[6:35] poor people
[6:36] for those with position or those with
[6:38] power no it is
[6:39] for every man woman boy and girl
[6:42] the word is a friend of kings and of
[6:44] beggars the word may be read by dim
[6:47] candles in the arctic snow
[6:49] or by the glare of the blazing sun at
[6:52] the equator
[6:53] the word may be read in the city and
[6:55] country and crowds are all alone
[6:58] the word appeals to and transcends all
[7:01] cultural
[7:02] social intellectual and racial barriers
[7:05] because the message doesn't reach the
[7:08] head of man
[7:09] but the heart of man the word of god
[7:12] transcends
[7:13] every culture every creed
[7:17] every race every intellectual ability
[7:20] every social
[7:21] status the word of god reaches
[7:25] to the heart of man the word of god's
[7:28] been preserved we mentioned that last
[7:29] week in our video
[7:31] in spite of the perishable materials
[7:33] that it was written upon those old
[7:35] manuscripts
[7:36] in spite of the attacks which the bible
[7:38] has been subjected to
[7:40] the bible remains frequently challenged
[7:44] but utterly unscathed there's no book
[7:47] like
[7:48] this book it influences individuals
[7:52] whole communities societies
[7:55] entire civilization my friend this
[7:58] morning has the word of god influenced
[8:00] you now in verse 15 there's a
[8:04] rescue of god's word it says that the
[8:07] you've re he's known the holy scriptures
[8:10] which are able to make the
[8:11] wise unto salvation
[8:14] there's a goal for the word of god the
[8:16] salvation of mankind
[8:19] god's word is able to make thee wise
[8:21] unto salvation
[8:23] it is powerful the word has a power that
[8:26] is extraordinary
[8:28] it's evident and it's efficient in first
[8:30] peter 1 23 the bible talks about being
[8:33] born again
[8:34] by the word of god romans 1 16
[8:38] it is the power of god under salvation
[8:42] now rome had military power but
[8:45] internally and morally they were
[8:46] impotent
[8:48] wrong was a cesspool of iniquity seneca
[8:51] said that rome was the filthy sewer
[8:53] and to which the drags of the empire
[8:56] flooded what a description for a city
[9:00] of how filthy and abominable it was
[9:03] scripture is powerful to bring a radical
[9:06] rescue and deliverance from destruction
[9:09] both temporal
[9:10] and eternal out of ephesians chapter 2.
[9:13] transforming nothing can do what the
[9:15] word of god can do
[9:17] it can change a person's life it can
[9:19] liberate them
[9:20] and transform them there were many
[9:23] messages then
[9:24] as today in the time of all the greek
[9:27] intellectualism the philosophy
[9:30] of this world roman legalism the law of
[9:33] caesar
[9:35] the hebrew judaism the rabbi the
[9:37] pharisees the tradition
[9:38] all of those things were present in
[9:41] timothy's era
[9:44] but what was important was the word of
[9:47] god
[9:48] society says be good help the poor
[9:52] get confirmed join the church and more
[9:57] but what does god say god says
[10:01] that he can rescue a man's soul and life
[10:05] through the power of the word of god the
[10:08] origin of god's word verse 16
[10:10] all scripture is given by inspiration of
[10:13] god
[10:14] it's profitable now i want you to notice
[10:16] something he says all scripture
[10:18] comprehensive
[10:20] of god all parts verbal plenary
[10:23] inspiration we've talked about that
[10:25] the great miracles that are found in the
[10:28] word of god the amazing things
[10:31] and the mundane you know as some people
[10:33] would read the word of god they would
[10:35] say god's word is boring
[10:37] if you say that god's word is boring you
[10:38] haven't read it
[10:40] all the amazing things that are found
[10:42] there in the word of god we're not at
[10:46] liberty to pick and choose
[10:48] direct or judge ourselves romans 3 4
[10:51] says let god be true and
[10:52] every man a liar it's god
[10:56] breathe it's got trustworthiness isaiah
[10:59] 45 says for the mouth of the lord hath
[11:01] spoken in
[11:02] second peter 1 21 holy men of god spake
[11:05] as they were
[11:05] moved by the holy ghost the holy spirit
[11:09] superintended the reception and the
[11:12] recording
[11:14] of the divine message by human authors
[11:17] so that they were preserved from mental
[11:18] heirs
[11:19] and mechanical blunders the scriptures
[11:22] are
[11:23] supernatural the word of god defies
[11:26] logic
[11:27] analysis or explanation
[11:30] it is of god and is accepted as thus
[11:34] by faith a combination of the divine
[11:38] spirit
[11:38] and a human servant gave us the holy
[11:41] scriptures
[11:42] the profitableness of god's word is
[11:44] found in verses 16 and 17.
[11:47] it's all families serviceable to the
[11:50] moral and spiritual needs of man
[11:52] the word develops our belief system it's
[11:54] the doctrine
[11:56] it affect directs truth right thinking
[11:58] and reproof
[11:59] it beats down falsehood and challenging
[12:01] error
[12:02] this bible is good for doctrine for
[12:05] reproof for correction
[12:06] for destruction and righteousness that
[12:07] the man of god may be perfect truly
[12:09] furnished
[12:10] unto all good works it's not just words
[12:12] to read
[12:14] but it's words to live by it should
[12:16] affect your life
[12:17] it's not just information to hold but
[12:20] information to implement into our lives
[12:22] to do what god would have us to do
[12:24] behavioral patterns the conduct for
[12:27] correction
[12:28] for instruction in righteousness it
[12:30] helps us set a new
[12:32] moral course by restoring our fallen
[12:34] behavior
[12:35] with correction that leads to
[12:37] disciplined education
[12:39] that leads to right moral living the
[12:41] word established our integrity
[12:43] it's doctrinal we need an erecting of
[12:46] truth and a refusing of air in our life
[12:48] oh today
[12:49] how important it is to have the doctrine
[12:51] of the word of god
[12:53] in your life to know what you believe
[12:55] and why you believe
[12:56] it it's moral it's correction and
[12:59] instruction
[13:00] to help defeat our fallenness and
[13:02] embrace righteousness
[13:03] now i know atheism cries out well i can
[13:05] be a moral person and still not believe
[13:07] in god
[13:08] well that would be true but you don't
[13:09] have god's morals you have your own
[13:11] subjective morals
[13:13] and a lot of times people who don't
[13:14] believe in god who don't believe in the
[13:16] word of god
[13:16] their morals are subjective to time
[13:21] situation we call them situational
[13:24] ethics
[13:24] is it ever okay to lie well god's word
[13:26] says that men should not lie
[13:28] but to speak every man the truth but a
[13:31] time situational episode it's okay to
[13:33] lie for this or okay life for that no
[13:35] it's not moral correctness
[13:38] it embraces righteousness it's spiritual
[13:41] the word makes us complete
[13:42] truly furnished it said in verse 17
[13:45] equipped
[13:46] not too selfish desire but to all good
[13:49] works
[13:50] that help us selflessly employ our life
[13:52] for god and others
[13:54] integrate the scriptures into your heart
[13:56] and life
[13:57] and it will set you aflame to help
[13:59] others
[14:00] this word of god that we've talked about
[14:03] today
[14:04] we're to have faith in the scriptures
[14:07] but
[14:08] faith of the scriptures faith in the
[14:10] scriptures
[14:11] and the bible says the just shall live
[14:14] by faith
[14:15] my friend you hold in your hands the
[14:17] preserved word of god
[14:19] it ought to have an effect on you and
[14:21] i'm not just to sit on a bookshelf
[14:23] like any other book but this bible ought
[14:26] to change and penetrate your life
[14:28] and help you to live a life pleasing to
[14:31] god
[14:32] my friend it's god's word it's not man's
[14:35] word
[14:35] it's god's word today i hope and pray
[14:38] that you
[14:39] understand the importance of the word of
[14:41] god
[14:42] that truly it impacts your life and it
[14:45] helps you to live a life
[14:46] pleasing to god at the end of the day
[14:49] you've heard me say it many times
[14:51] there's only two choices on the shelf
[14:53] pleasing god or pleasing self
