[17:14] as he walked out the word of the Lord

[17:16] came unto him and told him where to go

[17:17] so God sent him to a place

[17:19] God sent him to the brook cherith

[17:22] and you're familiar with the account of

[17:24] scripture I'm sure but God sends him to

[17:27] this Brook that's a feeder Brook off of

[17:28] the River Jordan

[17:30] and God has him there it's a kind of a

[17:33] valley-ish type area a low land and the

[17:37] brook is there and he drinks the water

[17:39] of the brook and twice a day once in the

[17:42] morning and once in the evening

[17:45] bread and flesh get delivered by Dirty

[17:49] Birds

[17:53] it's true

[17:54] Ravens are not the most clean animal

[17:58] they're scavenger Birds

[18:01] but God changed these birds

[18:06] to not only be selfish scavenger Birds

[18:09] but now birds that picked up bread not

[18:13] just meat

[18:15] picked up bread not just meat and

[18:17] delivered it

[18:19] it's the first doordash

[18:26] they delivered it to the hot spot of the

[18:28] brook cherith

[18:31] twice a day

[18:33] so in the morning

[18:35] bread and flesh in the evening bread and

[18:39] flesh

[18:41] and when Elijah went to bed

[18:43] when he woke up in the morning breakfast

[18:45] was on the way

[18:47] and God provided day

[19:31] Elijah saw that

[19:35] what once was a flowing broke

[19:39] slowed down to a trickle Brook

[19:42] slowed down to small

[19:46] Watering Hole

[19:48] and eventually it dried up

[19:51] you imagine the thought processes of

[19:54] Elijah

[19:55] as it got lower

[19:57] and lower

[19:59] and lower

[20:00] and lower

[20:02] do you think Elijah may have gotten

[20:04] concerned

[20:06] do you think it's possible well not

[20:08] Elijah preacher he had great faith

[20:12] have you read chapter 18.

[20:24] I wonder if he got to a point of being

[20:27] concerned that the Brook's drying up

[20:29] because he knows

[20:31] he knows three years

[20:34] three years no rain he's not at three

[20:37] year mark and the Brook's getting

[20:38] smaller and it's getting smaller and

[20:42] it's getting smaller

[20:43] I wonder if Elijah started contemplating

[20:45] I wonder how much water I should save

[20:49] I wonder if I should limit how much

[20:52] water I enjoy

[20:55] because it starts drying up and it

[20:58] starts drying up and he starts drying up

[21:02] and it came to pass after a while verse

[21:04] seven that it did dry up

[21:08] what am I going to do now

[21:10] well what did you do in verse number two

[21:12] well the Lord told me to go there so I

[21:15] went there that's what you should do

[21:18] so in verse 8 the word of the Lord came

[23:12] care of by religious people

[23:16] they were steeped in poverty

[23:23] in acts with the early church

[23:26] they appointed the deacons to help take

[23:28] care of the widows

[23:30] so their widows wouldn't be neglected

[23:33] they appointed those to help because

[23:35] there was a need there

[23:37] and is the church's responsibility to

[23:39] help and take care of widows

[23:42] amen

[23:45] so God's using a widow woman who's on

[23:49] the low end of the poverty scale

[23:51] to provide

[23:53] for God's man Elijah

[23:58] and God said that I have commanded a

[24:01] widow woman there I have appointed one

[24:05] there's one in mind Elijah

[24:08] we don't have it recorded scripture that

[24:10] God ever told him the name

[24:13] and it definitely appears that the widow

[24:15] woman didn't know Elijah was coming

[24:19] but God's plan

[24:21] was happening

[24:23] in the moment

[24:26] so he arrives in the city

[24:28] there she is there's a widow woman she's

[24:30] distinguishly marked as a widow many

[24:32] times they do that by the garments that

[24:34] they wore so she's marked as a widow

[24:39] during that time frame of Biblical

[24:42] history

[24:44] many of the women were the ones who

[24:45] gathered the water

[24:48] so it was not Elijah not he's not being

[24:50] rude when he says go fetch me some water

[24:53] that's how we know Elijah's from the

[24:55] south because he used the word fetch

[24:57] go fetch me this from the south side of

[25:00] Israel that's a joke you'll get later

[25:04] but he asked her to go fetch him a drink

[25:06] so she takes off

[25:09] and then he says bring me a morsel of

[25:11] bread now it's not like Elijah doesn't

[25:14] know they're in a famine

[25:18] he knows that

[25:20] but God said that widow woman is going

[25:23] to provide for you she's going to

[25:26] sustain you

[25:29] she says

[25:31] what she says I only have a little bit

[25:34] of oil

[26:02] it's referencing the name Jehovah

[26:04] as Jehovah liveth and notice it's thy

[26:07] God

[26:09] she's Gentile

[26:11] and he's an Israelite so she recognizes

[26:14] he's an Israelite

[26:17] Lord thy God liveth I have not a cake

[26:19] and she goes through everything that she

[26:20] has

[26:22] Elijah says that it will not waste

[26:28] so she goes and she does

[26:31] what Elijah has asked her to do

[26:34] the Bible says

[26:36] verse 14 for thus saith the Lord God of

[26:39] Israel the burial of meal shall not

[26:41] waste neither shall the crews of oil

[26:43] fail until the day that the Lord sendeth

[26:46] Reign upon the Earth

[26:49] so a little meal

[26:51] and some oil

[26:54] and the oils

[26:55] at the low stage

[26:57] because remember she's just got enough

[27:00] for one more meal

[27:02] she's just got enough for one more meal

[27:06] and really not even a whole meal

[27:09] enough to give her son and her one more

[27:12] piece of bread

[27:15] she got a little bit of oil and a little

[27:17] barrel of meal

[27:19] and God says

[27:22] it's not going to fail

[27:25] so she does what the Lord says and then

[27:27] verse 15 she went and did according to

[27:29] us to the saying of Elijah and she and

[27:32] he and her house did eat many

[27:35] days

[27:39] do you know what that means

[27:41] every day

[27:45] there was just a little bit of oil

[27:48] and a little bit of meal

[27:50] for the next day

[27:54] God didn't completely fill up the bottle

[27:59] he didn't fill it all the way up

[28:02] he said it didn't fail

[28:05] so what she had

[28:07] was sufficient

[28:10] because God made it

[28:15] day after day in the beginning of

[28:18] chapter 17 he's eating twice a day at

[28:25] you'll notice it says that they did

[28:29] according to the same Elijah and she and

[28:31] he and her house did eat

[28:33] many days so they ate

[28:36] one time a day for many days

[28:39] it's just bread but it's provided for

[28:43] so it didn't fail

[28:45] I didn't fill it up

[28:48] but God didn't let it run out

[28:50] it was sufficient

[29:02] and the barrel of mule wasted not it was

[29:28] day one before Elijah got there

[29:48] and she didn't just get one meal her and

[29:51] her son ate for many days

[29:54] because it was sufficient day after day

[29:58] after day after day after the step of

[30:02] faith

[30:04] it was sufficient day after day after

[30:13] and you and I would

[30:16] agree that Elijah ought to be grateful

[30:19] that God provided for him during the

[30:21] famine

[30:22] Elijah ought to be grateful that he got

[30:25] bread and flesh in the morning and bread

[30:27] and flesh in the evening

[30:29] Elijah ought to be grateful that the

[30:32] widow woman helped sustain him

[30:35] day after day after day with a little

[30:38] meal and a little oil

[30:40] and the widow woman and her son ought to

[30:43] be grateful

[30:44] that God provided for them day after day

[30:48] after day after day

[30:51] with just a little oil

[30:53] and a little meal

[30:57] we would all say they need to be

[30:59] grateful

[31:00] how many times

[31:03] do we

[31:05] start looking at the brook drying up

[31:09] and starting to get a little stressed

[31:12] out

[31:13] and a little concerned

[31:15] and a little worried

[31:17] because it's not flowing like it used to

[31:20] flow

[31:21] it's not as easy as it once was and now

[31:26] I don't know if I can make it or not

[31:32] but God

[31:34] said to stay there go back to verse 3.

[34:15] but something else happens in this

[34:17] chapter

[34:19] in verse number 17

[34:23] it came to pass after these things that

[34:25] the son of the woman

[34:28] the Mistress of the house felt sick

[34:33] and his sickness was so sore

[34:36] that there was no breath left in him

[34:42] her son dies

[34:47] she says on Elijah what have I to do

[34:49] with thee o thou man of God

[34:52] Art Thou come unto me to call my sin to

[34:54] remembrance and to slay my son question

[35:00] he said unto her give me thy son and he

[35:02] took him out of her bosom and carried

[36:30] and he said to Elijah I've commanded a

[36:33] widow woman there to sustain thee

[36:37] God knew

[36:39] what was ahead

[36:41] for the widow woman and her son

[36:46] God knew what was ahead

[36:49] for the widow woman and her son the

[36:52] sickness that was coming the death that

[36:54] was coming and right on time God sent

[36:58] Elijah her way and yes there was some

[37:02] tough times there was a tough decision

[37:04] but God was faithful and God's power was

[37:09] sufficient

[37:10] to raise her son from the dead

[37:15] chapter 17 of First Kings

[37:20] helps to illustrate for us

[37:23] some important truths tonight

[37:27] truth number one it may not be how you

[37:29] want it

[37:30] but God is sufficient

[37:34] it may not be how you want it

[37:37] but God is sufficient what does that

[37:39] mean

[37:40] God is good period

[37:44] God is not good based upon what he does

[37:46] for you God is good period

[37:49] God is also sufficient

[37:52] well I I wanted steak dinner well you

[37:55] get bread and flesh

[37:58] and then sometimes you may just get

[38:00] bread

[38:03] but I think the Bible says I've never

[38:05] seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed

[38:08] begging

[38:11] hmm is God's sufficient

[38:14] it may not be how you want it but God is

[38:17] sufficient

[38:23] but God is sufficient

[40:03] stress and it's not coming as you want

[40:18] God's directions will help you to

[40:21] remember he is sufficient

[40:31] but listen to The Voice because he is

[40:42] to fill up the whole bottle

[40:45] but he said it wouldn't fail

[40:53] money at the end of the month and I not

[40:55] have enough money honestly you want to

[40:59] know the answer you're probably not

[41:01] managing it the way God wanted you to

[41:03] manage it and there's inflation

[41:11] if you're managing it the way God wants

[41:14] you to manage it it will be sufficient

[41:26] bologna sandwiches at home

[41:52] but God is sufficient

[41:57] it may not come like you want it may

[42:10] because God's got you with what he gave

[42:13] you and with God's help it is sufficient

[43:10] don't get your eyes on their bottle

[43:13] you use your life as God would have you

[43:27] the same amount

[43:29] that was one meal away from Death didn't

[43:32] fail

[43:33] didn't fail

[43:35] didn't fail

[43:36] didn't fail so I

[43:38] how does that play into our life

[43:42] the energy you got

[43:44] on your own is not enough but with God

[43:48] it's sufficient

[43:51] I can't put up with these people at work

[43:53] on your own you can't

[43:55] but with God

[43:57] he's sufficient

[44:00] the stress of my life is overwhelming me

[44:03] but with God

[44:05] he is sufficient

[44:08] he can help you I don't have anything

[44:11] left

[44:12] with God you got enough

[44:14] because he's sufficient

[44:20] you've got to prioritize

[44:24] when the widow woman was faced with a

[44:27] question

[44:28] of go make me first go make Gods first

[44:35] Elijah representing the prophet of the

[44:37] Lord go do that first

[44:40] then take care of yourself

[44:45] prioritizing

[44:47] God's plan first helps to make your

[44:51] plans sufficient

[44:54] God's way is the best way

[45:12] fall out

[45:13] but God is still sufficient

[45:18] what I mean by that is you may get so

[45:20] low that you think there's no hope

[45:23] I don't know what it's like Lord willing

[45:31] with those that have lost children there

[45:34] are no words

[45:36] to express and comfort

[45:40] in those moments in time except that God

[45:44] is able to be a comfort he's the God of

[45:47] All Comfort

[45:50] but as a mom could you imagine

[45:54] her child is gone

[45:58] her her bottom has fallen out

[46:02] what is she to do

[46:07] she's angry

[46:09] she lashes out at Elijah Elijah

[46:12] you did this

[46:15] it's easy to lash out at other people or

[46:17] even the lash out at God when the bottom

[46:19] falls out

[46:21] but God is sufficient

[46:26] now we know the rest of the story that

[46:30] Resurrected

[46:32] her son

[46:35] it may not always be that God

[46:38] gives it back in the moment

[46:42] but God is still sufficient

[46:49] so it may not come like you wanted it

[46:51] may come with stress but God is

[46:52] sufficient

[46:53] listen to The Voice he is sufficient

[46:58] don't compare the bottle with someone

[47:00] else's it will not fail

[47:03] put God first and everything else will

[47:06] fall into place and if the bottom falls

[47:23] he is sufficient

[49:25] First Kings 17 God knows you

[49:29] he knows what's coming down the road

[49:36] he knows what's happening at your house

[49:40] he knows the thoughts that you're

[49:42] struggling with and my friend he is

[57:03] those that have been sick and pray for
