[0:00] money to buy some country land in the
[0:02] Arkansas mountains. They planned to cut
[0:04] it up into small lots to sell to people
[0:06] for weekend or vacation homes in a place
[0:09] called Whitewater. That was the idea.
[0:12] But the lots didn't sell. One of the
[0:14] partners in the deal owned an SNL that
[0:16] went bust. It was said SNL money went to
[0:20] pay a Clinton campaign debt. There was a
[0:23] suicide. Records of the land deal were
[0:25] hastily moved out of sight. One of the
[0:28] partners, James McDougall, a friend of

[1:00] Senator Bob Doe, Republican leader of

[1:08] Some background from our man Jack Smith,
[1:10] [music]
[1:11] and a discussion here with George Will,
[1:15] Sam Donaldson, [music]
[1:17] and Koki Roberts here on our Sunday
[1:20] program.
[1:24] First, a little news. Since the Sunday
[1:25] morning papers, after meeting for 5 and
[1:28] a half hours in Geneva, President
[1:30] Clinton and Syrian President Hafz
[1:32] al-Assad told reporters that Syria wants
[1:35] peace with Israel. A piece of the brave,
[1:38] they called it. President Clinton said
