[14:14] offerings but during the offertory you

[14:18] attention to the songs that are being

[14:21] played and

[14:22] not continue to have conversations it's

[14:25] still it's good to set our heart on the

[14:26] Lord

[20:52] Generations I can see on some of your

[20:54] faces you're like so and so we got so

[20:56] and so so so what well hang on

[20:59] because Matthew chapter 1 is a very

[21:01] exciting prophetic fulfillment chapter

[21:06] and tonight I'm going to preach on Luke

[21:07] 3 because if you've read your Bible

[21:10] which I hope all of you have there are

[21:11] two genealogies of Christ listed one

[21:13] here in Matthew 1 the second one in Luke

[21:16] 3 but they're different and there's a

[21:18] reason why and I'm going to have a lot

[21:21] of fun telling you all about it so let's

[21:23] go to Lord in prayer this morning

[21:24] Heavenly Father Lord I Thank you for the

[21:26] opportunity to preach your word today

[21:27] would I pray if you would please cleanse

[21:29] me of sin and empty me of myself that I

[21:31] might get out of the way this morning

[21:32] and your word may go forth Lord I pray

[21:34] that you'd speak to our hearts today

[21:36] challenge us from your word Lord I pray

[21:38] in your name amen you may be

[21:43] seated when you

[21:45] write a story or

[21:48] paper you're supposed to have a soul

[21:53] gripping

[21:55] introduction that catches the reader's

[21:57] attention

[21:59] and draws them

[22:01] in so look at verse one this is

[22:04] Matthew's

[22:06] introduction to Matthew the Gospel you

[22:09] ready the book of the generation of

[22:13] Jesus Christ the son of David the son of

[22:18] Abraham that's a soul gripping

[22:20] introduction now some of you kind of

[22:22] like uh I don't get it well hang on so

[22:27] we've been in Matthew earlier this year

[22:30] and the theme of Matthew that we've been

[22:32] preaching through and is evident is that

[22:34] Jesus is

[22:35] what he's King Jesus is King he is the

[22:42] king of kings and the Lord of

[22:46] lords the Jewish

[22:48] Bible ends they have all the Old

[22:51] Testament books that we have but they

[22:53] end it with

[22:55] Chronicles instead of Malachi

[22:59] because Malachi doesn't speak very well

[23:01] of them so they rearranged it they take

[23:04] all the Minor Prophets and they lump

[23:05] them into one book they call the

[23:07] 12 but they end the Jewish people's

[23:10] Bible ends the say news ends with

[23:15] Chronicles our new testament begins with

[23:17] what

[23:18] book

[23:20] Matthew Chronicles has a listing of the

[23:23] nation of Israel the Kings then you have

[23:26] the kingdoms and then there's a

[23:28] Rebellion that happens and they're taken

[23:30] into Babylonian captivity and it appears

[23:33] that the Throne of David has been left

[23:36] vacant we're going to talk about that

[23:37] here in a moment so the Jewish Bible

[23:40] ends with

[23:42] chonicles the New Testament begins with

[23:46] Matthew Matthew's writings are primarily

[23:50] directed to a Jewish audience although

[23:52] there's truth in it for all of us but

[23:55] his primary audience was that Jesus is

[23:56] the Messiah Jesus is King

[23:59] so I want you to notice some things that

[24:01] he does in verse number one the

[24:04] book now that phrase itself in

[24:07] Hebrew is

[24:09] mentioned 12 times as the generations of

[24:13] and one time in the Old Testament as the

[24:16] book of and it's the book of Adam that's

[24:19] how it's listed in the Old Testament so

[24:21] 12 plus one math Scholars help me out 12

[24:24] + 1 is 13 and the Jewish mind using

[24:31] numbers as they did 13 was the sign of

[24:36] rebellion but 14 was

[24:39] not so their last book

[24:44] ends with the book

[24:47] of and then now there's a 14th time to

[24:51] take him out of rebellion a 14th time

[24:55] that's mentioned and it starts off in

[24:57] Matthew the book

[24:59] now if you read your Bible in the Old

[25:01] Testament say

[25:03] Amen many times you find as I said just

[25:06] a minute ago the generations of how many

[25:09] of you have heard that phrase before in

[25:10] the Bible the generations of and it goes

[25:12] so and so we got so and so and so and so

[25:14] we got so and so and so and so we got so

[25:16] and so and so and so we got so and so

[25:18] and so and so we got so and so want you

[25:21] to draw your attention to Matthew

[25:22] chapter 1 verse

[25:25] one the what

[25:29] the book of the

[25:33] what why is it not

[25:35] plural why is it just

[25:40] one does a s make a big difference you

[25:44] better believe

[25:45] it the reason there's only one it ends

[25:48] with

[25:51] Jesus the generation ends with Jesus

[25:54] didn't have any

[25:55] kids it ends with him

[26:00] some of you are excited some of you are

[26:01] not so hang

[26:03] on one generation not

[26:07] Generations now the meaning of it in the

[26:09] Old Testament of generations means that

[26:13] God was continuing their family

[26:15] life God continued it so in Matthew

[26:19] chapter 1 when it says the generation

[26:21] singular means god stopped

[26:24] it right at

[26:26] Jesus well what is this line all about

[26:29] well since you brought it up let's look

[26:31] at

[26:31] it he is the generation of Jesus Christ

[26:36] and it starts it off with the son of

[26:40] who why does he start it off with the

[26:42] son of

[26:44] David why didn't he go with Joseph his

[26:47] Earthly father why didn't he go with

[26:51] him anybody know the reason why is is

[26:55] the son of David this is the Royal

[26:57] Family

[26:58] lineage Jesus Promised David that a

[27:01] descendant of David would sit upon the

[27:04] throne and then under Solomon there was

[27:07] a curse put upon them because of their

[27:09] wickedness and it all ended what they

[27:11] thought with janias when they were

[27:13] carried into Babylonian

[27:15] captivity and then the 400 years of

[27:19] Silence people are still passing on so

[27:22] in other words this morning as you look

[27:23] at this lineage here when Jesus Christ

[27:27] is presented as king other words in

[27:30] their their lineage they could trace

[27:31] from Jesus all the way back to

[27:35] David what that means is if that they

[27:38] hadn't been taken into

[27:40] captivity they continued the kingly

[27:44] line Joseph wouldn't have been the

[27:47] carpenter Joseph would have been

[27:52] King which means his

[27:55] son his adopted son CU When you you're

[27:58] adopted into a family you got all the

[28:03] rights so Jesus when he was born watch

[28:06] this he's the next

[28:08] king now who's after

[28:12] Jesus what verse one

[28:15] say generation stops at

[28:19] him he is the

[28:22] king now he's not reigning in Jerusalem

[28:25] yet but he's coming back

[28:28] so we could say it this way we are 1

[28:30] second and seven years

[28:33] away well the Rapture didn't happen in

[28:36] that second so we're at least one second

[28:37] in seven years

[28:39] away for when Jesus will reign on the

[28:42] throne of David he is the king so he

[28:44] says he's the son of David so it links

[28:46] him to the royal family then secondly it

[28:49] says not only is he the son of David but

[28:52] he's the son of

[28:54] who

[28:56] Abraham which links him to the racial

[28:59] lineage of a Jew now why would he do

[29:02] that in one verse well the Jewish people

[29:05] would never accept the Messiah who

[29:06] wasn't 100%

[29:10] Jew so in Matthew 1:1 Matthew says he's

[29:16] King and he's one of

[29:18] us to the nation of Israel he's setting

[29:22] the

[29:23] stage so a Jewish person could pick up

[29:26] the gospel of Matthew and read that

[29:28] first verse and be shook to their

[29:33] coure it all Stops With Jesus he's the

[29:36] king he's got kingly

[29:39] rights but that's not all what's in

[30:37] women in the lineage of Jesus

[30:42] Christ three of them have a

[30:45] past two of them are mentioned in

[30:47] scripture for their virtue and their

[30:52] godliness so the first one he starts off

[30:55] with is themar she's an angry Widow

[30:59] who tricks her

[31:01] father-in-law and commits sexual sin

[31:04] with him to have her

[31:06] kids but God

[31:09] forgives aren't you glad God

[31:13] forgives so the angry Widow themart

[31:16] she's in the family now we're getting

[31:18] ready to go to Christmas time you know

[31:21] what happens sometimes around Christmas

[31:23] you get around

[31:24] family some of you got them one family

[31:27] members that you give your kids talking

[31:29] to before you get there like don't don't

[31:32] hang around uncle so and so don't act

[31:35] like Uncle so sorry you know because we

[31:37] got them family secrets you're like

[31:39] they're they're weird of course they

[31:41] told their kids don't hang around them

[31:42] they're weird same thing you know

[31:48] secrets most people don't like talking

[31:51] about people who have fallen into

[31:54] sin but Jesus put it in the

[31:59] genealogy it's in his family

[32:02] tree there's star the angry let's let's

[32:22] known as Rahab the Harlot from

[32:28] in scripture there's definitions of her

[32:30] name that says Rahab the

[32:32] Harlot pretty sad when the Bible still

[32:35] calls you by your

[32:38] past she didn't become to know the Lord

[32:41] she didn't begin to follow after God and

[32:43] she has a

[32:45] son named

[32:49] Boaz pretty good

[32:52] son you've ever read the book of

[32:56] Ruth her son

[32:58] the harlot's son who used to be a harlot

[33:01] who begin to follow after God because

[33:03] God changes your past who begin to

[33:06] follow after God produced the son that

[33:09] God uses as a picture of

[33:14] himself as the kinsman redeemer in the

[33:17] Book of Ruth pretty

[33:21] amazing the character displayed by Boaz

[33:24] in the Book of Ruth young men if you

[33:26] want to have some character read boaz's

[33:28] testimony in the Book of Ruth and how he

[33:31] treated her and how he showed her honor

[33:33] and showed her respect you might want to

[33:34] read

[33:36] that where did he learn that how to

[33:38] treat women well he learned it from his

[33:43] parents the lady who used to be a

[33:46] hard but she's in the

[33:49] family in

[33:51] fact not only is she in this

[33:56] genealogy she's in another one leave a

[33:59] ribbon your bulletin in Matthew chapter

[34:01] 1 but turn over to Hebrews chapter

[34:06] 11 Hebrews chapter

[34:21] faith the Harlot

[34:24] Rahab perished not with them that

[35:28] so here's this woman Rahab the Harlot

[35:51] Ruth now Ruth is known as a virtuous

[35:56] woman Ruth chapter 3: 11 says that about

[36:02] it in fact what I've been able to study

[36:05] and see she's the only one in Scripture

[36:09] that her name is given and says that

[36:12] she's a virtuous woman proverbs 31 talks

[36:15] about The Virtuous Woman the Bible says

[36:17] that Ruth was a virtuous

[36:20] woman she's in the

[36:23] family oh I forgot Rahab she's a

[36:28] gentile she's not just a woman she's a

[36:32] gentile Ruth she's a moabites means

[36:34] she's a gentile she's not from

[36:37] Israel so

[36:42] I the the way the Jewish people

[36:46] performed was a patriarchal society and

[36:49] the father be got this one and the

[36:50] father and there's been no father who's

[36:53] ever gone into labor and delivered a

[36:55] baby

[36:57] but in their society he got all the

[37:03] credit but not with Jesus's

[37:07] genealogy so so and so we got so and so

[49:56] which one is it I hope and pray it's

[49:59] Jesus I hopeful and pray that he's been

[50:01] the king of your life today but not only

[50:03] is Jesus king want to ask you secondly

[50:06] are you part of his

[50:08] family have you been born again into the

[50:11] family of

[50:13] God you know if you died the day that

[50:15] you go to heaven that's how you get in

[50:16] God's

[50:18] family you've been born

[50:21] again but also just in case you're

[50:24] wondering God's got a lot of Grace

[50:28] for people who mess

[50:29] up in fact Matthew chapter 1 the first

[50:32] 16 verses shows us God's grace God's

[50:34] grace God's grace is

[50:37] evident a man commits adultery gets

[50:39] right God

[50:41] forgives there's consequences he dealt

[51:15] present Romans 58 but God commendeth his

[51:17] love toward us and that while we were

[51:24] remind yourself he commended his love

[51:34] people but when we were Sinners hey God

[51:37] saw you when he was on the cross he knew
