[0:01] and Maple Langano, the owners of the
[0:02] nursing home, were being charged with 34
[0:05] counts of negligent homicide in that
[0:06] case.
[0:08] You presume that they drowned. Drowned.
[0:11] Is that good enough for you? They
[0:13] drowned. They did not die of natural
[0:15] causes. They drowned. 32 people, 34
[0:19] people drowned
[0:21] in a nursing home where they should have
[0:24] been evacuated.
[0:26] >> That of course was Louisiana Attorney
[0:28] General. And here in Louisiana, it has
[0:30] just been a devastating night of news
[0:32] for folks who had heard about the story
[0:34] initially about 7 or 8 days ago.
[0:36] Initially, uh rescue teams, we believe
[0:38] from California were the ones who
[0:39] discovered uh that 34 people were in
[0:41] that nursing home in St. Bernard's
[0:43] Parish, which was the parish that was
[0:44] hit the hardest uh in this area. Uh many
[0:48] of the homes there, of course, destroyed
[0:49] many businesses. And this was apparently
[0:51] a case now, according to Louisiana's
[0:53] attorney general, where the owners of
[0:54] this nursing home were informed, look,
[0:56] the storm surge is coming. It's going to
[0:58] put this nursing home underwater. They
[1:00] ignored that warning. Then officials in
[1:03] St. Bernard's Parish actually offered
[1:05] the owners of this nursing home a bus to
[1:07] evacuate the 34 residents, the elderly
[1:09] who could not get out. That offer was
[1:12] turned down. And today, as you just
[1:14] heard, the Louisiana Attorney General
[1:16] said that all the people who were found
[1:17] there drowned. There is one report
[1:20] tonight, one report that before the
[1:22] owners left the nursing home, they
[1:24] actually took some of these elderly,
[1:25] they put them in
