[0:00] how you brush
[0:01] >> of campaign 92. One candidate steps
[0:03] down, another is crowned. An awful lot
[0:05] of votes up for grabs.
[0:10] [music]
[0:16] [music]
[0:18] Good morning, America, and this is the
[0:20] morning after, the day before. I'm
[0:21] Charles Gibson. It is Friday, July 17th.
[0:24] >> Yes. And I'm John London. And what a
[0:25] week it has been. And all bets are off
[0:27] really now that Ross Perau has quit the
[0:29] race for the White House. The question
[0:30] this [music] morning is who will his
[0:32] supporters support next? And the
[0:35] question for Spencer is who will get
[0:36] rained on?
[0:37] >> Well, many people in the Ohio Valley
[0:38] will get rained on today, Joan. Powerful
[0:40] thunderstorms once again will plague the
[0:41] US from the Ohio Valley to the southern
[0:43] plains. These storms could produce heavy
[0:45] rainfall, gusty winds, dangerous
[0:47] lightning, and some local flooding. And
[0:49] we'll update you on those storms in just
[0:50] a moment.
[0:51] >> Thanks very much, Spencer. It was a
[0:52] momentous day yesterday in politics.
[0:55] Somebody on our staff summed it up,
[0:56] said, "Well, this day is easy to to
[0:58] figure out." Clinton talks, Perau walks.
[1:00] And we're going to spend our program
[1:02] talking about the political situation
[1:03] this morning. We'll start with a
[1:05] campaign chairman without a campaign,
[1:07] Tom Loose. He helped orchestrate Ross
[1:09] Perau's phenomenal grassroots movement.
[1:11] He was there when it fell apart as well.
[1:14] >> We also have a chance to revisit some
[1:15] Perau volunteers in Falls Church,
[1:17] Virginia, who work so hard. There's a
[1:19] shot of them there live this morning.
[1:20] They really worked hard right to the
[1:22] bitter end for Ross Perau. Denise
[1:23] Richardson talked with them yesterday.
[1:25] That was before, of course, that the big
[1:26] news hit. She is going to be back there
[1:28] today and a lot of them say that they
[1:30] are not quitting. Leading the news
[1:32] though at this hour, catching up with
[1:34] Clinton this the morning after the
[1:35] acceptance speech and Mike Schneider has
[1:37] that story. Other news of the day. Mike,
[1:38] good morning.
[1:39] >> Good morning, John. Good morning,
[1:40] everybody. They wowed him at the garden
[1:41] last night and now they are taking their
[1:43] act on the road. Bill Clinton and Al
[1:45] Gore will jump on a bus today and hit
[1:47] the campaign trail right away. They have
[1:48] already got their eyes set on November
[1:50] and on the people who have been backing
[1:52] Ross Perau. He's out. ABC's Mike Vonm
[1:55] now reports on the end of the New York
[1:56] Democratic Convention.
