[0:00] Thankful [music] after Katrina tonight

[0:02] on News Channel 5 at 10.

[0:07] >> Good evening, I'm Bob Schiffer. It's not

[0:09] an official holiday, but maybe it should

[0:11] be because for millions, the day before

[0:13] Thanksgiving has become Getaway Day. And

[0:16] so far, the getaway is going well. We'll

[0:19] start there tonight, then we'll cover

[0:21] these stories.

[0:22] >> I'm Kimberly Doer with a look at the war

[0:24] on video and the legend of the Baghdad

[0:27] sniper. It's a story of greed, power,

[0:30] and money, and it's shaking up

[0:31] Washington. I'm Gloria Borgger.

[0:34] >> How sweet it isn't. I'm Kelly Kova with

[0:37] the way Hurricane Katrina is affecting

[0:39] sugar prices. I'm Cynthia Bowers in

[0:41] Kalamazoo, where mysterious benefactors

[0:44] are making an extraordinary promise.

[0:48] [music]

[0:50] >> This is the CBS Evening News with

[0:53] [music] Bob Schiffer. This is of course

[0:56] the beginning of the heaviest travel

[0:58] weekend of the year and for the most

[1:00] part it has been going fairly well

[1:02] across the country. But in Chicago late

[1:04] today there has been a serious crash

[1:07] involving a commuter train and at least

[1:10] 10 vehicles. At least one of the

[1:12] vehicles burst into flame. There is no

[1:15] word yet on casualties. We're seeing

[1:17] here some of the first pictures that are

[1:19] coming in by helicopter. Uh details are

[1:22] very scarce uh at this point, but

[1:25] clearly there was a fire here and as we

[1:27] say at least 10 vehicles, perhaps as

[1:30] many as 17 burst into flame. We'll keep

[1:33] you uh informed as more details become

[1:36] available on this story. In other parts

[1:38] of the country, traffic has not been as

[1:40] bad as some had predicted.
