[0:04] This is the CBS Evening News with Walter
[0:07] Kronite.
[0:08] >> Good evening. President Carter's on
[0:10] record as saying the United States would
[0:12] prefer not to withdraw from the Moscow
[0:14] Olympic Games, but he left open that
[0:17] possibility. Now, with the dual crisis
[0:19] in Iran and Afghanistan seemingly no
[0:21] closer to resolution, the administration
[0:24] is talking about withdrawing the games
[0:26] themselves from Moscow. Robert Peer
[0:28] Point reports.
[0:30] The president appeared in the East Room
[0:31] to unveil a $2 billion expansion of his

[1:14] In retaliation for that Soviet action,
[1:16] the Carter administration is showing
[1:18] increasing interest in switching the
[1:19] site of this year's Olympic Games away
[1:22] from Moscow. Today in Iowa, Vice
[1:24] President Montdale openly supported that
[1:26] idea.
[1:27] >> It is my personal belief that the
[1:30] Olympics ought to be uh held somewhere
[1:32] else. uh perhaps in Montreal where the
[1:36] facilities are there and Munich where
[1:38] they have facilities but not in a
[1:40] setting where we in effect are uh
[1:44] granting legitimacy
[1:46] uh to a
