[8:19] went that same day to a village called

[8:22] emus which was from Jerusalem about

[8:24] three score

[8:26] furlongs they walked they talked

[8:29] together of all these things which had

[8:32] happened and it came to pass that while

[8:35] they communed together and

[8:38] reason Jesus himself Drew near and went

[8:43] with them but their eyes were Holden

[8:47] that they should not know him and he

[8:51] said unto them what manner of

[13:23] tonight so they the the day starts for

[13:26] them early in the morning the women go

[13:29] go to the tomb they find it empty they

[13:32] see the Angels they come back to the

[13:35] upper room now the two that are on the

[13:38] road to emus Copus is named one of them

[13:43] 11 but they're part of the other group

[13:46] the other followers that were there and

[13:49] so they're they're in the upper room

[13:51] when the women come back and they hear

[13:53] the report he's not dead he's alive he's

[14:27] there and these these two leave

[14:31] town don't you think about it these two

[14:34] leave town they head back to the town of

[14:36] amas now a furong is about an eighth of

[14:38] a mile so it's three score furlongs it's

[14:40] about seven mile

[14:43] Journey from where they're at in

[14:45] Jerusalem back to EMAs so they're

[14:46] traveling seven miles

[14:48] walking back we know that they're

[14:51] walking because the Bible tells us

[14:52] they're

[14:53] walking so on their Journey back to emus

[14:56] they're having a

[14:58] conversation and they're talking

[15:00] together of all these things which had

[15:03] happened now if we only had the first

[15:06] part that Jesus was crucified they

[15:10] thought he was the Messiah he was

[15:12] crucified and condemned to die but

[15:16] that's not all they

[15:19] got they also have people who came to

[15:21] them and said he's not there we saw the

[15:25] Angels he's

[15:27] alive and yet they're still

[15:32] discouraged how do we know they're

[15:34] discouraged well it says when Jesus

[15:35] asked them why are you so

[15:37] sad and we talked with them so there's

[15:40] this discouraging Journey so they're

[15:43] traveling the seven miles along the road

[15:46] headed back to Emmas and having a

[15:49] conversation now we're not privy to all

[15:51] the things that their conversation is

[15:54] about but we know how they respond to

[15:56] Jesus when he asked them about it

[16:00] but it seems that they are saddened by

[16:02] the look upon their face and how Jesus

[16:04] responds to

[16:05] them so they begin back in number one

[16:10] discouraging

[16:12] Journey what they've

[16:14] seen what they felt what they've

[16:18] experienced has brought sadness to them

[16:23] why did it bring sadness well we're

[16:25] going to talk about that when we get to

[16:26] Point number two

[16:29] but I want you to think about it they're

[16:31] having a conversation and as they're

[16:33] reasoning

[16:35] together somebody walks

[16:38] up on their

[16:40] conversation and the Bible says he was

[16:43] not holding unto them meaning the

[16:45] terminology the verbiage there means

[16:47] that God was preventing them for seeing

[16:51] Jesus as who he

[16:54] was now we know when he appears later on

[16:56] this chapter he appears in the upper

[16:58] room

[16:59] while they're there he's got hands

[17:02] prints nail prints a pierce side crown

[17:06] of thorn scar that's all

[17:08] there when he appears here in just a

[17:11] moment later on the chapter they're

[17:13] going to see him

[17:15] wounded so I want you to think about

[17:17] that they're walking with Jesus with

[17:19] nail prints in his

[17:20] hands they don't

[17:22] recognize that's him they probably don't

[17:25] even recognize the nail prints in his

[17:27] hand but walks up to two people that are

[17:30] discouraged and saddened and he asks

[17:33] them the

[17:35] question verse 17 what manner of

[17:38] communications are these that you have

[17:40] one to another as you walk and are

[17:46] sad and then their response

[17:49] is what

[17:51] things they they say are are one of them

[17:54] cus ask are you a stranger do you not

[17:56] know what's going on

[18:35] from Jesus of Nazareth which was a

[18:38] prophet Mighty in deed and word before

[18:44] God and all the people so he's a mighty

[18:47] Prophet now their their verbiage is

[18:50] wrong because they said

[18:53] was he is he is mighty he is the prophet

[18:57] but

[19:00] was and then also it doesn't stop there

[19:02] notice the punctuation the thought

[19:03] continues and how the chief priests and

[19:06] our rulers delivered him to be condemned

[19:09] to death and have crucified him so our

[19:14] our Jesus of Nazareth who is a mighty

[19:16] prophet in word and deed he's come and

[19:19] our rulers and chief priests have

[19:21] condemned it to death and they've

[19:22] crucified

[19:25] him and notice what they say they say

[19:28] they' cruci crucified

[19:32] and how the chief priest did that in

[19:35] verse 21 but we trusted that it had been

[19:40] he which should have redeemed

[19:43] Israel it would be he who had redeemed

[19:45] Israel and beside all this today is the

[19:49] third day since these things were done

[19:51] now here's the thing that they're

[19:53] battling they're they're battling their

[19:55] their

[19:56] Doctrine what they believe about Jesus

[19:58] Jus that he's a he's Jesus of Nazareth

[20:01] he's a mighty Prophet he's Mighty in

[20:03] word he's Mighty In Deed he's been

[20:06] condemned to die he's been crucified

[20:12] 24 and then on top of that it's the

[20:15] third

[20:16] day it's the third day they

[20:19] said yay in certain women verse 22 also

[20:22] so other people told him he's alive he's

[20:25] resurrected but they didn't believe that

[20:29] number one was the discouraging J

[20:31] Journey number two Doctrine not

[20:35] believed will not defeat

[20:39] discouragement Doctrine not believed

[20:42] will not defeat

[20:45] discouragement so they didn't believe

[20:47] that he was alive and because they

[20:49] didn't believe he was alive they were

[20:53] discouraged cuz if they believed he was

[20:55] alive they wouldn't be discouraged

[20:59] but they didn't believe that so Doctrine

[21:03] believed will not defeat

[21:06] discouragement so he goes

[21:08] on and he begins to talk to them now

[21:12] remember what they're looking for

[21:15] they're looking for Messiah

[21:18] King not Messiah

[21:20] crucified they're looking for the

[21:22] Messiah to take over from Rome not the

[21:25] Messiah who's going to be the suffering

[21:27] servant

[21:29] they wanted the king not the meek

[21:32] Messiah so they missed out on Psalm 22

[21:36] and Psalm 69 and Isaiah 53 and Zechariah

[21:40] 14 that talks about the suffering

[21:43] servant and the Lamb of God and they

[21:46] missed all of that

[21:48] part because they're looking for the

[21:50] king they're not looking for the

[21:52] Savior they're looking for the king so

[21:56] they're don't believe he's alive

[21:59] and Jesus's

[22:01] response to Doctrine not believed is to

[22:06] correct your

[22:08] Doctrine notice what he does verse

[22:11] 25 then he said unto them oh

[23:06] Genesis and talked about Abel's lamb and

[23:09] the picture of him he could have gone

[23:14] or Joseph and Moses and David he could

[23:18] have talked about the sacrifices and the

[23:20] feast he he could have talked about uh

[23:23] page after page of Messianic prophecy

[23:26] that he himself fulfilled

[23:29] and for the Seven Mile journey I don't

[23:31] know what mile he got in on the journey

[23:34] but we know he taught on

[23:38] himself so Jesus's response to Doctrine

[23:42] believed was to give them Doctrine to

[23:46] believe because when you and I battle

[23:48] discouragement we need doctrine believed

[23:52] to defeat it so he preaches to himself

[25:58] Sinners they've seen him bless bread and

[26:04] breaking or maybe just maybe God opened

[26:07] their eyes and as he broke that bread

[26:09] they saw the nail prints they saw his

[26:12] face they recognized it's him it's

[26:17] him and now look what happens verse 31

[26:22] him and he vanished out of their

[26:26] sight right when they recognized it was

[26:28] Jesus boom he's

[26:33] gone but look at their response to that

[26:51] with us and talking with us it affected

[26:55] my heart did it affect your heart did

[27:00] we walked by with him in the way and he

[27:02] talked to us about the

[27:05] scriptures so they they share with one

[27:07] another Their Eyes Are Open they've seen

[27:09] Jesus for who he is their hearts has

[27:12] been affected by what he has said and

[27:14] what they have

[27:35] miles this is a walk probably a brisk

[27:38] walk because it's getting close to even

[27:50] to think about that this is not like

[27:52] they went down the street to the upper

[27:54] room 7 miles they take off running take

[27:58] off walk and go back to the upper room

[28:06] said their hearts are burning inside

[28:39] were done in the way and how he was

[28:43] known of them in Breaking of bread so

[28:47] they tell the other disciples it's true

[29:44] affected their heart in such a way

[29:48] and all of the sudden in my glorified

[29:50] imagination I see them talking and they

[29:53] stopped to take a breath and Jesus is in

[29:55] the room he didn't knock at the door

[29:58] he just shows up boom there he

[30:02] is and evidently because he appeared he

[30:06] felt his first words to them were

[30:09] peace peace be unto you because it'd be

[30:12] kind of a shocking all moment if Jesus

[30:15] suddenly appeared boom in the

[30:19] room he continues on the rest of the

[30:21] chapter but we want to look at this and

[30:24] make some application

[30:26] tonight we started off with the road to

[30:28] Aus now remember these are followers of

[30:33] Jesus they have some doctrinal thoughts

[30:38] about

[30:39] Jesus they know who he is they know

[30:43] where he's from they've seen what he's

[30:46] done they may have even been present

[30:48] when Miracles took

[30:53] place but yet in this

[30:56] moment there head knowledge of

[30:59] Doctrine did not keep them from being

[31:05] discouraged life has discouraging

[31:11] moments for every

[31:14] believer every believer will face life's

[31:17] discouraging moments and you will be

[31:18] journeying through your life in moments

[31:21] of

[31:23] discouragement but I want to remind you

[31:25] of what happened to them because it's

[31:27] what happened happens to you and I in

[31:29] our journey of discouragement Jesus

[31:32] walks

[31:35] up he

[31:37] hears our words and our

[31:41] thoughts now I want you to picture it in

[31:43] your mind these two are walking they're

[31:45] discouraged they're upset about what has

[31:49] happened he's been crucified he's not

[31:52] the Redeemer we thought he

[31:55] was he just walks up right beside them

[31:59] what's this talk

[32:02] about now can you imagine if you're

[32:05] sitting at the dinner table and you're

[32:06] just

[32:07] venting through discouragement through

[32:11] frustration and all of a sudden Jesus

[32:14] appeared on the T at the chair next to

[32:15] you put his head on the table said what

[32:17] are you talking

[32:21] about would that change the

[32:24] conversation and Jesus just hey what are

[32:26] you talking about

[32:29] he does that

[32:30] already the holy spirit's living inside

[32:33] us the convicting power of the Holy

[32:36] Spirit should grip your heart say hey

[32:37] what are you talking about hey what are

[32:39] you

[32:41] thinking why you thinking that way and

[32:44] the reason why many Believers struggle

[32:46] in the Battle of discouragement is

[32:49] because Doctrine head knowledge is not

[32:52] as powerful as a heart knowledge of

[32:56] Doctrine that's believed

[32:58] if I just have facts in my brain things

[33:01] that I've heard things that I've read

[33:04] but let me tell you if I believe it and

[33:06] I experience it in my life I'll have joy

[33:09] in moments of

[33:12] discouragement because what happens is

[33:14] the discouraging thoughts get bombarded

[33:17] by the truth of God's

[33:20] word Psalm chapter three David's on the

[33:24] run from Absalom in Psalm chapter number

[33:26] three and as he's running he cries unto

[33:29] the Lord says many are they that rise up

[33:32] against me many which be which say my

[33:34] soul there is no help for him and

[33:37] God then the next verse says but thou oh

[33:54] believer's life when our head is down

[33:59] so he lifts us

[34:01] up he encourages us Doctrine head

[34:04] knowledge is not as powerful a weapon as

[34:12] believed when he said I'll never leave

[34:15] thee nor forsake thee he meant

[34:18] it when the psalmist said what time I am

[34:21] afraid I will trust in thee God meant it

[34:25] us trust in the Lord with all thine

[34:28] heart and lean not into thine own

[34:29] understanding in all thy ways

[34:30] acknowledge Him and He Shall direct th

[34:32] path he me it in John 14 we said let not

[34:36] your heart be troubled you believe in

[34:37] God believe also in me he meant it every

[34:40] verse every line every doctrinal truth

[34:44] needs to be applied to our heart to help

[34:47] us battle in the Battle of

[34:50] discouragement because if two people who

[34:53] spent watch this two people who spent

[34:55] personal time on Earth Earth with

[34:59] Jesus still struggled believing

[35:04] everything Believers in 2025 can still

[35:08] struggle believing everything now let me

[35:10] tell you what'll happen you take God's

[35:12] word and you hide it in your heart you

[35:15] believe it your eyes will be open to

[35:19] Jesus and who he is and it will change

[35:23] you your eyes will be open to who Jesus

[35:30] you their eyes are open they see who he

[35:33] is and immediately their responses did

[35:36] not our heart burn within us when we

[35:38] walked with him in the way did did not

[35:41] when he opened us the

[35:43] scriptures I've called it at other times

[35:46] holy

[35:47] heartburn it's got side

[35:50] effects years ago went to summer camp I

[35:54] did something that no youth pastor

[35:56] should ever do

[35:58] I told our young people we were we had a

[36:01] Ministry where we were feeding people in

[36:03] our community putting together blessing

[36:05] baskets and Christmas

[36:07] baskets and they assigned the Youth

[36:09] Department peanut butter jars of peanut

[36:11] butter and we were going all out that

[36:14] year we're doing a hundred food baskets

[36:17] so we're going to feed a hundred

[36:19] families so we needed a lot of peanut

[36:22] butter because not only were we feeding

[36:24] a 100 families in the community we're

[36:25] going to do 50 families that were in the

[36:26] military

[36:28] had a military base that was nearby we'd

[36:29] take food baskets to them right during

[36:31] the holiday time and when I say a food

[36:33] basket I'm not talking a little basket

[36:35] it was about a $650 value in

[36:40] 2014 13 12 so if you're going imagine

[36:43] $650 worth of groceries back

[36:46] then that's probably close to $2,000

[36:49] worth of groceries today so it it was

[36:53] large boxes we had three or four boxes

[36:55] that would go we had a turkey back of

[36:57] potatoes milk eggs but our young people

[37:00] we assigned all the Sunday School

[37:02] classes different items to help us

[37:04] finish out the year and we got peanut

[37:06] butter because we were adventurous and

[37:09] we decided that year we're going to put

[37:11] five jars of peanut butter in every

[37:14] basket so we needed 650 jars of peanut

[37:18] butter no 750 jars of peanut butter

[37:19] that's a lot of peanut

[37:21] butter we were bringing the peanut

[37:23] butter

[37:24] in now we we needed a lot more

[37:28] so I told the

[37:29] teenagers whoever brings the most jars

[37:32] of peanut butter in gets to pick the

[37:34] color of the camp shirt when we go to

[37:36] summer camp next year don't ever do that

[37:39] youth pastor

[37:41] Majors I had a girl her name was Deja

[37:45] Deja had an uncle who worked in a for a

[37:47] company and that girl brought in a

[37:49] hundred jars of peanut butter the next

[37:52] Sunday and it was her senior year so

[37:56] Deja looks at me says pastor brother

[37:57] Adam brother Adam this is what I want I

[37:59] want a pink shirt for summer camp now

[38:03] when we went to summer camp we designed

[38:05] a shirt for every one of our campers

[38:07] every one of our campers we had shirts

[38:09] that we did so now I have to do a pink

[38:13] shirt and it was highlighter pink that's

[38:17] the color she wanted highlighter pink

[38:20] now I've got guys in my youth group that

[38:22] are softball players and football

[38:24] players and wrestlers and we're going to

[38:26] go to camp with the pink

[38:29] shirt I told the guys you all let me

[38:34] down but January comes and I'm I'm

[38:37] starting to figure out how I'm going to

[38:39] design this shirt and I get the camp

[38:41] brochure in the mail and it says that we

[38:43] had a change of

[38:46] speaker and the the speaker who is going

[38:48] to come is not coming

[38:50] now so now the speaker is going to be

[38:53] Brother Sam Davidson

[38:57] it the president of the Bible College

[38:59] was my pastor for a few years and he

[39:02] hates

[39:05] pink not only that our our girls

[39:08] volleyball team was doing very well that

[39:10] year so they decided Pastor brother Adam

[39:12] we're not just doing pink shirts we're

[39:14] going to do pink

[39:17] bandanas so the day I had to wear cuz I

[39:20] said I'd do it I wore a pink shirt with

[39:23] a pink

[39:25] bandanna and Brother Sam looked that at

[39:27] me and said what are you

[39:29] doing said I do I need to take your

[39:32] diploma

[39:33] back and I said no and I explained to

[39:36] him what was going on and he was he was

[39:38] he gave me grace and

[39:41] mercy but that pink

[39:43] shirt was turned out the highlighter

[39:46] pink wasn't available it was Pepto

[39:48] Bismol

[39:49] pink but I fixed it guys we took the

[39:53] verse from here from Acts or excuse me

[39:56] from Luke chapter

[39:58] 24:32 did not our heart burn within us I

[40:01] put a heart with flames coming out the

[40:03] top I talked about holy heartburn and

[40:06] the side effects that happen on the

[40:07] shirt at least we had flames on it it's

[40:10] the best I could

[40:13] do but I tell you all that because when

[40:15] you're when you have holy heartburn from

[40:17] the word of God and the word of God it

[40:19] produces side effects in your life it

[40:22] produces some encouragement when you're

[40:24] discouraged it produces a passion for

[40:26] God it drives you to your knees it has

[40:29] some of side effects that happens in

[40:31] your life and I played off the Pepto

[40:34] Bismol uh commercial because they said

[40:36] PTO bismal and then they had all the

[40:38] things that it deals with I'm not

[40:39] singing the song and so but it had all

[40:42] the things that it deals with and so we

[40:44] we we played off of that and talked

[40:45] about that but listen to me it's true

[40:48] when your heart has heard about God and

[40:51] believes about God and understands what

[40:53] it is it affects your everyday

[40:55] life cuz when you're eyes are open to

[40:58] who Jesus is it will affect you not only

[41:01] that it creates an urgency to tell

[41:04] others he's

[41:06] alive it took them off they took off

[41:10] look at verse 33 they rose up the same

[41:12] hour they just got done eating the bread

[41:16] boom let's go back they returned to

[41:19] Jerusalem found the other 11 gathered

[41:21] together and them that were with them

[41:23] saying the Lord is risen indeed has

[41:26] appeared to Simon that's what the people

[41:27] in the room are talking

[41:29] about and then they tell him they told

[41:33] what things were done in the way and how

[41:36] he was known of them breaking of bread I

[41:38] want you to think about that for a

[41:40] minute the first thing they told

[41:42] him was the message that he

[41:45] preached the first thing they said to

[41:47] him was what he said while they were

[41:51] walking because what he said when they

[41:53] were walking produced a heart that was

[41:56] burning with within them and when you

[41:59] and I get into the word of God and you

[42:00] and I have an urgency to see who Jesus

[42:02] is and our eyes are open to that it'll

[42:05] produce an urgency to tell other people

[42:07] about it they took off go tell them what

[42:11] they say Jesus is

[42:13] alive Jesus is

[42:21] afternoon that says the song the verse

[42:24] says I walked by the tomb of Buddha

[42:27] looked inside and saw his bones I

[42:30] traveled on to see Muhammad still

[42:33] wrapped up in his grave clothes but then

[42:36] I journeyed to a garden where old Joseph

[42:39] left him lay the Spotless lamb God's Own

[42:43] begotten he's no longer in that

[42:46] grave then the coure says but if you

[42:49] knew him like I know him you would know

[42:55] that he's alive

[45:09] overwhelmed what God told him in chapter

[45:11] one and chapter two now he's struggling

[45:13] with what God showed him in chapter 18

[45:15] on the potter's wheel and all the things

[45:17] that God was doing he's in the point now

[45:20] I'm overwhelmed look what he says in

[45:22] verse

[45:23] n then I said I will not not make

[45:27] mention of his name nor speak anymore in

[45:32] his name that's what he said about God

[45:34] I'm not going to mention his name

[45:35] anymore I'm not going to speak about his

[45:38] name but oh Hallelujah for those in

[45:42] scripture but his word was in Mine Heart

[45:47] as a burning

[45:50] fire shut up in my bones and I was weary

[45:54] with forbearing and I could not

[45:58] stay you know what happened to Jeremiah

[46:00] he couldn't stay down because of what

[46:03] was in him and it was

[46:06] burning and he wanted to squin squelch

[46:10] it he wanted to put it out but he

[46:11] couldn't put it out because his word was

[46:15] in him like a burning

[46:17] fire you know what happens in our

[46:21] lives when you've got doctrine that you

[46:25] believe you may struggle with

[46:27] discouragement but the doctrine you

[46:29] believe all of a sudden comes pouring

[46:31] out like a fire and burns up the clouds

[46:33] of

[46:35] discouragement helps us to fight the

[46:38] fight opens our eyes that Jesus is

[46:44] Alive now you may need every now and

[46:47] then to get the little fire poker

[46:51] out and poke the fire that's in your

[46:54] heart let the word of God stir the coals

[46:58] that are burning inside you but it'd be

[47:01] better if we just kept it raging a

[47:04] raging fire within us the spirit of God

[47:06] working through

[47:08] US hey life can have discouraging

[47:10] moments but Doctrine believed will help

[47:13] you battle

[47:15] discouragement so Doctrine means

[47:17] teaching and truth and it must be

[47:20] applied to our life to truly help

[47:23] us if it's just thoughts on paper it

[47:28] doesn't have the effect that Doctrine

[47:31] believed has in our

[47:33] hearts so tonight do you believe

[47:37] God do you believe his

[47:40] word I don't know what your week's been

[47:48] walking and he's hearing your words and

[47:51] he's hearing your thoughts and he wants

[47:57] his word what you need to believe to get
