[0:00] us on CNN this morning.

[0:02] >> Thank you,

[0:03] >> Senator. The the administration, the

[0:05] president, the Treasury Secretary,

[0:07] they're complaining that you, not only

[0:09] you personally, but the Republican

[0:10] leadership in Congress, for the first

[0:13] time, are forcing the American

[0:15] taxpayers, the US government to go into

[0:18] possible default by refusing to raise

[0:21] the debt limit ceiling. Why are you

[0:23] doing that?

[0:24] >> Well, first of all, we're not doing

[0:26] that. uh you know uh we we have we have

[0:31] and Secretary Rubin's to the table on a

[0:34] balanced budget uh dragging and and

[0:37] kicking all the way every step of the

[0:50] about it. They brought nothing to the

[0:52] table and now they attempt uh to to

[0:55] scare the American people into thinking

[0:57] that uh we're not going to get a

[0:59] balanced budget unless we do it their

[1:00] way and unless we uh agree with them to

[1:03] extend the debt limit. Let me say August

[1:05] 31st, Halloween day, has come and gone.

[1:08] The big threat of October 31st, excuse

[1:10] me, has come and gone. That was the

[1:12] warning date the secretary had indicated

[1:15] everything's going to go down the drain.

[1:17] Interest rates are going through the

[1:18] roof. It's come. It's gone. And guess

[1:20] what's happened? Interest rates are

[1:21] coming down and not going up. I think

[1:23] the market is anticipating a real

[1:25] balanced budget and believe that we're

[1:27] going to
