[0:31] paratroopers from the Elite 82nd
[0:32] Airborne Division were hit with deadly
[0:34] sniper fire today inside their own base
[0:37] at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. More than
[0:39] a thousand soldiers were on routine
[0:41] physical exercises, unarmed and
[0:43] unsuspecting when the shooting started.
[0:45] It ended with a fellow soldier in
[0:47] custody tonight. The suspect identified
[0:49] as 26-year-old Sergeant William J.

[1:13] were injured, 18 of them shot, including
[1:16] a major who was killed at the hands of
[1:18] one of their own.
[1:19] >> We have a suspect in custody at this
[1:21] time. The soldier is assigned to the
[1:23] 82nd Airborne Division. The paratroopers
[1:25] had nowhere to hide. About 1,300 of them
[1:28] were exercising in the open field when
[1:30] the gunman opened fire from the adjacent
[1:32] woods.
[1:33] >> This is the little small rise of uh of
[1:35] high ground here I
