[0:00] fined by an encore of house. Viewer

[0:02] discretion advised Monday on Fox.

[0:10] >> Tonight, it may be just a game, but in

[0:12] Oregon, it's Civil War.

[0:16] We'll take you to Corvalis for one of

[0:18] the closest games in recent memory. In

[0:21] search of the perfect wine, see our

[0:24] suggestions we're sure you've never

[0:26] heard before.

[0:27] Heavy snow in the mountains is good news

[0:29] for skiers, but tonight there's growing

[0:31] concern for thousands of travelers

[0:33] preparing to head home. Your first live

[0:35] local forecast coming up. But first, a

[0:39] warning for shoppers tonight.

[0:40] >> I usually have it on my arm, but

[0:42] sometimes I carry it right next to me.

[0:44] >> Someone is snatching purses and you

[0:47] could be their next target. The search

[0:49] for Fox 12's most wanted is first on

[0:52] Fox.

[0:53] >> Good evening. Thanks for joining us. I'm

[0:54] Wayne Garcia. Shauna has the night off.

[0:57] First on Fox tonight, a warning about a

[0:59] thief who may be shopping for your purse

[1:01] at a local store. Police say that there

[1:03] have been three similar purse snatchings

[1:05] at the Long View Fred Meyer in just the

[1:07] last week. Tonight, they do have a

[1:09] description of the suspect, but he is

[1:10] still on the loose. KPTV's Jamie Wilson

[1:12] joins us live from Long View now with

[1:14] more. Jamie.

[1:15] >> Well, the latest purse snatching

[1:16] happened yesterday afternoon. A woman

[1:18] was in the parking lot of the Fred Meyer

[1:21] store when a thief came up and grabbed

[1:23] her handbag. And she is not the only

[1:26] victim.

[1:28] Tonight, as the crowds and chaos from

[1:30] Black Friday are winding down, Long View

[1:32] police hope shoppers aren't letting

[1:34] their guard down, especially at this

[1:36] Fred Meyer. This is where cops say a

[1:38] purse snatcher has robbed three women in

[1:41] the last week. Some people are really

[1:43] desperate and needy, and some people see

[1:46] a chance,

[1:48] so they just go ahead and take advantage

[1:50] of it. Unfortunately, Kathy Dicki thinks

[1:52] theft is just part of the holiday

[1:54] season. Police say the purse snatcher

[1:56] targeted a woman in the parking lot here

[1:59] yesterday and security guards told them

[2:01] it was very similar to two other purse

[2:04] snatchings within the week. Surveillance

[2:06] cameras captured some images of the

[2:08] thefts and cops think their suspect is a

[2:11] white man about 5' 10 wearing a red

[2:14] sweatshirt and blue jeans. here. I

[2:16] always keep it to my side and I always

[2:18] have it zipped up and make sure that my

[2:20] money is not sticking out my wallet.

[2:21] FredMyer regulars say they are very

[2:23] aware of their purses while they're

[2:25] shopping and most don't plan to change

[2:27] their habits. But for others, just using

[2:30] pockets sounds pretty good.

[2:33] >> Have it on my arm, but sometimes I carry

[2:35] it right next to me. But I think maybe

[2:38] we'll have to start doing something

[2:39] else.

[2:40] Police don't know for sure if one person

[2:43] is behind all of the purse snatchings,

[2:45] but Kathy says she wouldn't be

[2:47] surprised.

[2:48] >> I don't like it, but I've kind of come

[2:51] to expect it. Now, police have

[2:53] questioned the owner of a pickup truck

[2:55] they think may be connected to these

[2:58] purse snatchings, but so far no one has

[3:00] been arrested. Live in Long View

[3:02] tonight, Jamie Wilson, the 10:00 news.

[3:05] Tonight, the medical examiner confirms

[3:06] that a man found in northeast Portland

[3:08] died from stab wounds. Police found

[3:10] Leonardo Perez's body on Northeast 148th

[3:13] in Cooch Wednesday night. His killer is

[3:15] still on the loose and tonight,

[3:17] detectives don't have any specific

[3:18] information about a suspect. Anybody

[3:20] with any information is asked to call

[3:22] Portland police. New charges tonight for

[3:24] two people accused of killing a man who

[3:26] invited them over for a beer. Police

[3:29] arrested Charles Samson and Brenda

[3:30] Hudson earlier this month in connection

[3:32] with Ronald Mlanahan's death. Samson is

[3:35] now charged with kidnapping and burglary

[3:37] in addition to charges of aggravated

[3:39] murder, murder, and robbery. Brenda

[3:41] Hudson's facing murder, kidnapping,

[3:42] robbery, and burglary charges. And

[3:44] tonight, they are both being held

[3:46] without bail. A funeral will be held

[3:48] tomorrow for an Oregon State student who

[3:50] died in a car crash. Quinn Trong died

[3:52] when a car likely driven by her

[3:54] boyfriend Jeffrey Schmidt fell into the

[3:57] North Umpqua River on Sunday afternoon.

[3:59] The two were returning from a fraternity

[4:01] party at Diamond Lake. Tron graduated

[4:04] from Tiger High School last year.

[4:06] Tomorrow's service will be held at the

[4:08] Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary. The search

[4:10] for Schmidt's body will resume on

[4:12] Monday. A man police say coached kids

[4:15] football and helped the Boy Scouts is

[4:17] now accused of sexual abuse. Tiger

[4:20] police arrested William BS earlier this

[4:22] week and now fear he may have other

[4:24] victims. KPTV's David Freighus has more

[4:27] on the investigation.

[4:31] >> Attorney William Vultz behind glass

[4:33] after a Thanksgiving day in jail. Tiger

[4:36] police arrested the 41-year-old on

[4:38] Wednesday after they got a report from

[4:39] the Department of Human Services. DHS

[4:42] says the now 15year-old victim told them

[4:44] Voltz inappropriately touched him when

[4:46] he was 10. Tonight, we spoke to someone

[4:48] at Volt's Tiger home. She says Voltz has

[4:51] admitted to the abuse and that he is

[4:52] ashamed and sorry, but she also says the

[4:55] abuse only happened once. Still, police

[4:57] are concerned. So far, they have no

[4:59] evidence of further abuse, but they say

[5:01] Volt did volunteer for organizations

[5:03] like the Tiger Youth Football for 4

[5:05] years. Tiger cops say he also

[5:08] volunteered with the Cub Scouts and

[5:09] worked with the Oregon Youth Authority.

[5:11] Tonight, the woman who answered the door

[5:12] said Boltz has a passion for helping

[5:14] kids, not hurting them. Still, police

[5:16] are asking anyone who suspects vaults of

[5:18] other possible abuse to contact them. In

[5:21] Tiger, David Freighus, the 10:00 news.

[5:24] >> Just into the Fox 12 newsroom, crews are

[5:26] on the scene of a rollover accident in

[5:27] Gresham. Police say a truck crashed

[5:29] between a power pole and a tree. PGE

[5:32] crews have been called out to the scene.

[5:34] Eyewitnesses tell Fox 12 that power does

[5:36] appear to be on around that area.

[5:38] Authorities say the driver is not hurt

[5:40] and there do not appear to be any other

[5:42] injuries. A local woman is without a car

[5:45] tonight after she says a hit-and- run

[5:47] driver t-boned her the day before

[5:48] Thanksgiving. This is what Ashley

[5:50] Sharp's car looks like after the crash.

[5:52] She says she only had liability

[5:54] insurance because the car was old and

[5:56] she was a very safe driver. But now that

[5:58] car is totaled. Coming up new at 11, how

[6:01] you can help find the hit-and- run

[6:02] driver and what Ashley plans to do until

[6:05] that driver is caught.

[6:10] Police need your help tracking down one

[6:11] of Fox 12's most wanted tonight. and he

[6:13] is a sex offender with a history of

[6:14] committing violent crimes. Police say

[6:17] Mark Kenny has not reported to his

[6:19] parole officer in the past month. Kenny

[6:21] went to prison after attacking a

[6:22] security guard at a store that he was

[6:24] stealing from. He's also a sex offender,

[6:27] having been convicted of promoting

[6:28] prostitution. Kenny was last known to be

[6:30] living in Hillsboro. Call police if you

[6:32] know where he is. A predatory sex

[6:35] offender is waiting tonight to find out

[6:36] if he'll face any charges. Police say

[6:38] Raone Patrick turned himself in earlier

[6:40] this week after seeing his face on the

[6:42] news. Authorities say that Patrick

[6:44] hadn't reported to his parole officer

[6:46] since June. The Multa County Sheriff is

[6:49] exploring the possibility of leasing the

[6:51] Inest jail to a private company in order

[6:54] to get the Wapo jail up and running.

[6:56] Sheriff Bernie Gust says that a private

[6:58] prison company called the Geo Group

[7:00] would operate Inessous in Northeast

[7:02] Portland. He says the firm would pay

[7:04] more than enough for the county to open

[7:06] and even expand Wapo. The now closed

[7:09] jail would go from 500 bed to its full

[7:11] potential of 2,000. Juo stresses that a

[7:14] public private partnership would involve

[7:16] safeguards to ensure that Inveress is

[7:19] wellrun. The Clacamus County Sheriff's

[7:21] Office is taking a unique approach to

[7:23] protecting your car again this year.

[7:25] Patrols mounted on horseback will be

[7:26] going around the parking lot of the

[7:27] Clacamus Town Center this holiday

[7:29] season. The Posi started up again today.

[7:31] It's the 10th year the sheriff's office

[7:33] has set up the patrols and they hope it

[7:35] will help deter crime during the mall's

[7:37] busiest season and customers we talked

[7:39] with really like the program.

[7:42] >> I think it's a really wise idea because

[7:44] they can get around a lot easier and I'm

[7:46] thankful that they're watching our cars.

[7:49] >> The Posi starts patrolling the lot every

[7:51] day at 10:00 in the morning and they

[7:52] encourage anybody who wants to meet

[7:53] those horses to come and say hello.

[7:56] Well, tonight you are probably resting

[7:58] your tired feet and maybe adding adding

[8:00] up your savings. After all, today is the

[8:02] official start of the holiday shopping

[8:04] season. KPTV's Joe Vayathl has a look at

[8:07] the early morning shopping madness.

[8:10] We're at the Clackamus Fred Meyer and

[8:12] you can see that holiday shopping is in

[8:13] full swing today. It all started bright

[8:16] and early at 500 a.m. when the doors

[8:19] opened and shoppers were ready to spend.

[8:23] As the lines snake around from one store

[8:25] to the next, these early morning

[8:27] warriors plan their strategy.

[8:29] >> She's going to run in and I'm going to

[8:31] follow.

[8:32] >> She's faster than me.

[8:33] >> Every woman for herself.

[8:34] >> That's right.

[8:35] >> The first stores like Fred Meyer open

[8:37] their doors at 5:00 a.m. And what begins

[8:40] as a simple day of shopping quickly

[8:42] becomes a stampede. What are you getting

[8:45] today, ma'am?

[8:45] >> Socks.

[8:46] >> Lots of socks.

[8:47] >> Lots of socks.

[8:47] >> Anything else?

[8:49] >> Whatever I can find is on sale.

[8:52] It's the same scene from Freddy's to

[8:54] Best Buy to Target.

[8:55] >> We've been here since midnight trying to

[8:58] get TVs, computers, games, Nintendos,

[9:01] all sorts of stuff.

[9:02] >> Some of those items did not last long.

[9:04] At Fred Meyer, one brand of HD TV was

[9:07] gone in just 15 minutes.

[9:09] >> I got the last one. I'm a lucky guy this

[9:11] morning.

[9:12] >> And that's not all. So, why are you here

[9:14] today? Socks.

[9:15] >> Socks. Yes. Every year, shoppers at Fred

[9:17] Meyer collect a stockpile or I guess a

[9:20] sock pile of presents. How many?

[9:23] >> Oh, there is probably maybe 30 or 40

[9:25] pair time I'm done.

[9:27] >> 30 40 pairs of socks. 80 ft worth.

[9:29] >> Right.

[9:30] >> When you add it all up, the National

[9:32] Retail Federation expects a 5% jump in

[9:35] holiday sales nationwide, which means

[9:38] one crazy shopping day down and many

[9:41] more to go. Now, while most people tend

[9:43] to believe that Black Friday is the

[9:45] busiest shopping day of the year, in

[9:46] actuality, it's usually the Saturday

[9:49] before Christmas, still this is the

[9:51] official start of the season. And again,

[9:52] there were plenty of people looking to

[9:54] spend. I'm Joe Thiville for the 10:00

[9:56] news.

[9:57] >> We have some facts to back up what Joe V

[9:59] just talked about that Black Friday is

[10:01] not the busiest shopping day of the

[10:03] year. Now, the International Council of

[10:05] Shopping Centers says from 1995 to 2002,

[10:08] the busiest shopping day was always the

[10:10] Saturday right before Christmas. In that

[10:12] same time span, Black Friday ranked

[10:14] anywhere from 4th to 8th. The council

[10:16] says the shopping patterns though may be

[10:18] changing as more people are doing their

[10:20] business online. Well, it's arguably the

[10:23] biggest football day of the year for

[10:25] fans in Oregon. Thousands of people made

[10:27] their way to Corvalis for the Civil War

[10:29] game. Oregon State led most of the game,

[10:32] but it all came down to the final

[10:33] minute. And if you missed the ending,

[10:35] you're going to have to stick around a

[10:36] little bit longer and we'll have

[10:37] complete coverage from Corvalis. Again,

[10:39] that's a little bit later.

[10:43] Well, some big changes could be ahead in

[10:45] the forecast this weekend. Chief

[10:46] meteorologist Mark Nelson is here now

[10:48] with tonight's first weather. Mark?

[10:49] >> Yeah, the big changes coming up in a

[10:51] minute. The small changes this evening.

[10:52] Take a look at that. Live the convention

[10:54] center. It's dry across the city. Our

[10:57] live radar at this hour showing just a

[10:58] few showers up there northeast of Camas.

[11:01] And that's really about it. We have a a

[11:03] very brief dry spell here at least for

[11:04] the next few hours. You can see very

[11:06] light showers moving onshore. Things

[11:08] much calmer tonight than those big

[11:09] downpours I and probably you had to

[11:11] drive through last night. We have snow

[11:13] in the Cascades, but that has really

[11:14] tapered off. 24 ines in Mount Hood Ski

[11:17] Bowl in the last 24 hours. This is about

[11:19] 2 feet of snow up at Mount Hood in the

[11:21] last 24 hours. add to the big toll as we

[11:24] had within the last few days up there as

[11:26] well. And we just got this picture in

[11:28] from Dave Riley up at Mount Hood

[11:29] Meadows. Their buses pretty much buried

[11:32] as they wait for access to their ski

[11:34] resort. So, we'll talk about the

[11:35] possibility of snow back here in

[11:37] Portland. It may be coming. That's

[11:38] coming up in my first live and local

[11:40] forecast.

[11:41] >> The 10:00 news is just getting started.

[11:44] >> Coming up, snow coats more of the

[11:46] Northwest. How the wild weather is

[11:47] affecting travel this holiday weekend.

[11:50] Stabbed in the back for not washing his

[11:53] hands. How a lapse in hygiene nearly

[15:04] First, live local.

[15:06] >> That camera off me.

[15:13] >> I'll tell you about a big traffic

[15:14] problem going on right now. It's an

[15:16] accident west of the tunnel heading into

[15:18] downtown. So, eastbound lanes. There's a

[15:20] look at the backup right there. We

[15:21] understand the two left lanes again

[15:23] heading downtown, eastbound uh into the

[15:26] tunnel right now are blocked. There's a

[15:27] three car accidents taking its toll on

[15:29] traffic. Look at that backup. Cars

[15:31] hardly moving anywhere. So be noted if

[15:33] you're heading into downtown from the

[15:34] Beaverson area. Say it's going to take

[15:36] you a while to get toward downtown.

[15:38] We'll keep an eye on that. Give you a

[15:39] little update on that a little bit later

[15:41] in this newscast.

[15:44] In news from around the Northwest

[15:45] tonight, two men from Bend are accused

[15:47] of making off with a large canister of

[15:49] laughing gas from a dentist's office.

[15:51] Police arrested Christian Hasslam and

[15:53] Zachary Williams earlier today.

[15:54] Authorities say that somebody triggered

[15:56] the alarm on a room that held the

[15:58] laughing gas, also known as nitrous

[15:59] oxide. On their way to the dental

[16:02] office, police saw the two suspects

[16:03] leaving the area. Police say that they

[16:05] found the nitrous oxide in the back of

[16:07] their pickup. Police in Idaho finally

[16:09] caught up with a man they say led them

[16:11] on a car chase, then swam away from them

[16:14] in the Boise River on Wednesday. Police

[16:16] pulled over the suspect for a traffic

[16:18] violation, but he also had an

[16:19] outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor.

[16:21] Police arrested the suspect the day

[16:23] after the chase when hunters told them

[16:25] about a man who was hiding near a hay

[16:27] stack. In other news from around the

[16:29] Northwest tonight, two people have died

[16:31] in a freak accident on Interstate 90. It

[16:33] happened this morning near Snowquali

[16:35] Pass. A tree fell onto the highway and

[16:38] crashed into a pickup traveling along

[16:40] the road. A father and one of his

[16:42] passengers in the car died shortly after

[16:43] that crash. Two other people in the car

[16:46] survived. Meanwhile, Washington State's

[16:48] Department of Transportation needed to

[16:50] close parts of Snowqualami Pass earlier

[16:52] today after 17 in of snow fell

[16:55] overnight. Authorities shut down the

[16:56] highway for avalanche control. The

[16:58] highway reopened a few minutes later.

[17:00] The snow isn't all bad, though. Many ski

[17:03] resorts in that area have already opened

[17:04] up this Thanksgiving weekend. And of

[17:07] course, this is the time of year for

[17:08] company, parties, also family

[17:10] gatherings, a lot of sitdowns with

[17:11] neighbors. And if you're the one who has

[17:13] to bring the wine, I found someone with

[17:15] some suggestions. you probably haven't

[17:17] heard before. He's Bruce Bower at Veno

[17:20] in Cellwood.

[17:22] Veno. Can I help you?

[17:24] >> Fortunately, I know just the right guy.

[17:25] Bruce Bower at Veno in Cellwood. Number

[17:28] one is uh this German Reeseling.

[17:30] >> Bruce knows his wine. Not only the

[17:33] typical Cab Merllo, Chardonnay, or

[17:35] everpresent Oregon pino. He also knows

[17:38] some wines you may have been afraid to

[17:39] try. And he agreed to give us a few of

[17:41] his selections guaranteed to stand out

[17:44] from the crowd. This is Von Hovville and

[17:46] it's a Reeseline. It's a spate laser

[17:48] which is a ripeness level in Reeseline.

[17:50] And again, just a super bottle for

[17:52] dinner.

[17:55] >> That's good.

[17:56] >> We move on to an Oregon white now from

[17:58] Jay Christopher called Zoot Allure's

[18:00] Blanc. Retails for 12 bucks.

[18:02] >> I think for the money, it's a great

[18:04] white wine. Really a deal.

[18:06] >> That's excellent.

[18:07] >> If red is more your style, never fear.

[18:09] >> We have Bojlet Valage from France. It's

[18:12] from the Burgundy region and will set

[18:14] you back about $11.95.

[18:17] >> A lot of people think bojlet are going

[18:18] to be kind of light and simple. This one

[18:20] is a little richer, a little more

[18:21] fullness to it.

[18:22] >> Not sweet.

[18:23] >> Not sweet at all. No, totally dry. Wine

[18:25] number four is a wine from Spain that

[18:27] I'm willing to guess it probably none of

[18:29] your viewers have had before or very

[18:31] few.

[18:32] >> Again, we're branching out away from

[18:33] cabs, Merllo, and Pinos.

[18:35] >> This is uh from Alejandro Fernandez.

[18:38] It's from the Bayzo region. It says is

[18:40] Petalos bottling and it's made from the

[18:42] Menthia grape. It's going to run you

[18:44] about $20 a bottle. Light tannins on it.

[18:47] And again, this is just a great wine

[18:49] because it gives people again different

[18:51] flavors, things they're not used to.

[18:53] >> And finally, the splurge for last. It's

[18:55] a powerful Zinfendel from Ridge

[18:57] Vineyards in California for about $30 a

[19:00] bottle.

[19:00] >> This would stand up to any beef, lamb

[19:02] roast, anything like that.

[19:06] >> Wow. That has a lot of aroma to it. It's

[19:09] not Camello, but uh people will just

[19:11] flip if you serve them a wine like this.

[19:12] >> So, there you have it. Five wines to

[19:14] tempt your taste buds this holiday

[19:16] season. All unique and perfect for every

[19:18] budget.

[19:20] >> And if you're interested in buying one

[19:21] of those wines, but the story went a

[19:23] little bit too fast for you. Don't worry

[19:24] about it. Have no fear. We have a link

[19:25] that's set for you on our website. The

[19:27] address again is kptv.com.

[19:29] And it is a big weekend for Oregon

[19:31] wineries and hundreds of people who are

[19:33] chasing their turkey hangover with a

[19:34] little wine tasting. This year, local

[19:36] wine enthusiasts can look forward to

[19:38] sampling what wine spectator says are

[19:40] some of the best. Seven wines made the

[19:42] magazine's top 100 list this year.

[19:45] Coming in at number 49 is the Argyle

[19:47] Wineries Pino Noir Nut House 2003. The

[19:50] Argyle Winery is on Highway 99W in

[19:53] Dundee. The vintage has already sold out

[19:56] in several stores. During the last two

[19:58] years, four Oregon wines made the

[20:00] prestigious list. Well, he served as the

[20:03] concert master at the singing Christmas

[20:05] tree for more than 40 years, but the

[20:06] music has never sounded better for this

[20:09] man.

[20:14] That's Hugh Uert playing the violin part

[20:16] again this afternoon with his son David

[20:19] less than a year after they escaped from

[20:21] a burning house with their family. While

[20:23] visiting his son last December in

[20:25] California, the home they were in caught

[20:27] fire and the six people inside had only

[20:29] a few moments to get out. That fire left

[20:32] several family members injured, but

[20:34] Uward says it's amazing that everyone

[20:36] survived.

[20:38] >> Somehow the flames uh stayed away from

[20:41] us just just enough time to get out and

[20:43] it was out through a second story window

[20:45] and it was a miracle, I think, and we

[20:48] were being led.

[20:49] >> Well, David and Hugh spent much of this

[20:51] year in therapy recovering from those

[20:53] injuries they suffered. And if you want

[20:54] to see them perform, the singing

[20:56] Christmas tree will be running until

[20:58] next Sunday. And we want to warn you now

[21:00] that the sound you're about to hear may

[21:02] automatically cause you to start digging

[21:04] for spare change.

[21:08] >> Yeah. The Salvation Army kicked off its

[21:09] bell ringing season in the Portland area

[21:11] this morning. The red kettles come out

[21:13] around this time every year to help

[21:15] raise money for our most vulnerable

[21:17] citizens. Thanks to the community's

[21:18] generosity, the Salvation Army has

[21:20] served more than 140,000 people last

[21:23] year alone.

[21:26] We'll get back to that traffic alert

[21:27] right now on 26 heading eastbound. And

[21:30] as you can see, it's a totally different

[21:32] story in just the last five minutes.

[21:33] Apparently, they've managed to get that

[21:35] threec car accident away from the

[21:36] tunnel. Looks like smooth sailing again

[21:38] back toward downtown Portland. Still to

[21:41] come tonight, improving your odds of

[21:43] staying healthy. A cup of coffee could

[21:45] help you keep diabetes at bay. The

[21:48] Oregon Zoo is all dressed up for the

[21:49] holidays, so we're going to take you on

[21:50] a tour of this year's Zoo Lights

[21:52] display. And problems with a popular

[21:55] game system could mean money back for

[21:57] you. Details are coming up in the final

[21:59] cut. This evening, things really

[22:01] quieting down. As I mentioned, just a

[22:02] few scattered showers out there, but

[22:04] still, we have a very stormy Sunday

[22:05] coming up. We're going to let you know

[22:06] how low the snow level is going to go,

[22:08] and could we finally see snow here in

[22:10] Portland coming up in the next few days?

[22:12] That is coming up in my first live and

[22:13] local forecast.

[22:16] You're watching the 10:00 news first

[22:19] live local.

[23:25] final cut. Dirty dining hits the grill.

[23:27] See how some local restaurants rated on

[23:29] their health scores. Cell phone need a

[23:31] quick pickme up? Well, find out if these

[23:32] portable power boosters really do the

[23:34] trick. and bargain hunters hit the web a

[23:36] little too hard. Wait till you hear what

[23:38] they did to some shopping sites. These

[23:39] stories and much more tonight on the Fox

[23:41] 12 Final Cut.

[23:43] >> So, how do you feel about recliners?

[23:47] >> It depends on how good the TV is.

[23:48] >> So, who's your TV company?

[23:50] >> Uh, I use Comcast. Uh, they give me a

[23:52] ton of free programming on demand.

[23:55] >> We don't have to rent movies anymore.

[23:56] >> We have them all on demand. Local

[23:58] customer service,

[23:59] >> lots of channels,

[24:00] >> great picture quality,

[24:02] >> parental control,

[24:03] >> and we only pay $33 per month for the

[24:06] entire year.

[24:06] >> So, you ever used dish before?

[24:09] >> I don't do dishes,

[24:11] unless my wife tells me to.

[24:17] >> That is lovely. Thank you.

[24:20] >> Who went to Jared?

[24:23] Who went to Jared? A tycoer watch from

[24:25] Jared will put anyone in the spotlight.

[24:27] And to make sure you find the perfect

[24:29] gift, remember that Jared has five times

[24:31] the selection of ordinary jewelry

[24:32] stores.

[24:34] >> Exquisite.

[24:36] Wonderful line.

[24:37] >> Thank you. You went to Jared.

[24:41] >> Jared Galleria of Jewelry.

[24:43] >> This news segment on Fox 12 Oregon is

[24:46] brought to you by Lexus.

[24:52] >> I wonder who it's for. Could be anyone.

[24:57] My favorite color. What a coincidence.

[25:02] I did ask for something shiny.

[25:05] >> It's that time of year again when you'll

[25:07] find exceptional values on your favorite

[25:10] Lexus vehicles.

[25:11] >> Well, I have some things to do inside.

[25:13] Me, too.

[25:15] See Lexus of Portland

[25:22] >> in tonight's health watch. Who knew

[25:24] coffee might be good for you? Recent

[25:26] studies suggest that coffee could help

[25:27] people prevent diseases like diabetes or

[25:30] cancer. But don't put coffee in the same

[25:33] category as fruits and vegetables just

[25:35] yet. Some doctors say that pregnant

[25:37] women and people who suffer from

[25:38] frequent heartburn should avoid drinking

[25:41] too much coffee. New research shows that

[25:43] what you eat could help fight

[25:44] depression. Researchers say foods with

[25:46] fish oils, vitamins, and herbs help the

[25:49] brain absorb certain chemicals. They

[25:51] also say the tryptophan in a turkey that

[25:53] made you drowsy yesterday can also help

[25:55] your mood. In previous studies, vitamin

[25:57] B6 and B12 and St. John's wart were

[26:00] linked to helping fight depression, but

[26:02] the researchers in this study said they

[26:04] had mixed results.

[26:08] >> More ski areas open up tomorrow and of

[26:10] course that is good news. Probably the

[26:12] best Thanksgiving Day weekend scheme

[26:13] we've had in a long time. And of course,

[26:15] we'll let you know coming up how low the

[26:16] snow level is going to go eventually

[26:18] this weekend. Also, they're the places

[26:20] you go for a burger, fries, and a beer.

[26:21] If it is your favorite bar and grill

[26:23] serving up dirty dining, you'll want to

[26:25] see how their health scores stack up.

[26:28] Get the gift cards you really want this

[26:29] year. We'll show show you how to turn

[26:31] unwanted cards into ones from stores you

[26:33] do like or even cold hard cash. And one

[26:36] of the funniest guys in Tinseltown is

[26:38] trading in belly laughs for thrills and

[26:39] chills. Find out why Hollywood is

[26:41] buzzing about Jim Car's new role in the

[26:43] Final Cut.

[30:04] >> Live from Fox 12 Oregon. This is

[30:07] breaking news.

[30:08] >> We have some breaking news into the Fox

[30:09] 12 newsroom. A 4.1 earthquake hit about

[30:12] 25 minutes ago about 230 m west of

[30:15] Tieleook. So out in the ocean. At this

[30:17] point, there do not appear to be any

[30:19] tsunami warnings for the coast and we've

[30:21] not heard of anyone on the coast feeling

[30:23] the quake. Although we're going to keep

[30:24] you posted if anything on this should

[30:26] change. Well, gift cards, they're

[30:28] supposed to be the perfect gift, right?

[30:30] Well, not always. But now you can trade

[30:32] your unwanted gift cards online for the

[30:34] one you really wanted. KPCV's Steve

[30:36] Noviello has the story.

[30:43] They're regularly regarded as the

[30:45] perfect present.

[30:46] >> We got a lot of gift cards. And this

[30:47] year's posth holiday hum of ringing

[30:50] registers

[30:52] will process some $45 billion worth

[30:56] >> I got uh mostly from Toys R Us

[30:58] >> of gift cards.

[30:59] >> Let them get what they want as opposed

[31:01] to have to play the return game.

[31:03] >> But what happens when the right card

[31:06] >> oh my god

[31:06] >> gets paired with the wrong person?

[31:09] >> My brother got me a gift card to J.

[31:11] Penney once and I was like oh you can

[31:13] just have this back. I got a Russell

[31:14] Stovers gift card this year and uh I

[31:16] don't I I'm not a candy lover.

[31:17] >> The Mom Chris family has a solution.

[31:20] >> I just um give it to my mom and she

[31:22] gives me the cash for how much it's

[31:23] worth.

[31:24] >> Sure, that works fine for 9 and

[31:26] 1/2year-old Josh, but what about you? We

[31:29] found some cyber solutions where you can

[31:32] swap what you've got for what you really

[31:34] want instead. For $3.99, you can

[31:37] register unwanted gift cards on swap.com

[31:42] where you'll be paired with other folks

[31:44] who are selling, seeking, and trading

[31:46] cards of their own. A stroll

[31:48] downcard.com

[31:50] will let you swap and sell and bid, too.

[31:54] All for free. That gift swapping site

[31:57] hosts online auctions for gift cards

[31:59] that can add up to discounts even when a

[32:02] store isn't having a sale. Take a look

[32:04] at this. The new video iPod. Sure, it's

[32:08] a popular product, but Apple almost

[32:11] never marks down merchandise. The

[32:13] solution? Bid on a discounted gift card

[32:16] to the Apple store. Still skeptical?

[32:19] Sound too involved?

[32:20] >> I'm not really a big fan of gift cards.

[32:21] I don't really I don't really like them.

[32:23] I'd rather just have money.

[32:25] >> No sweat? You can also sell your card

[32:28] for cash, minus, of course, a little

[32:30] service fee. But keep in mind, only the

[32:34] most popular cards will command top

[32:36] dollar, and many will end up being sold

[32:38] on the site anyway. And while that will

[32:41] save you time, it won't make you nearly

[32:44] as much money.

[32:47] >> And that was Steve Noviello reporting

[32:49] tonight. And you can find a link to swap

[32:51] a gift on our website, kptv.com.

[32:54] Well, there is a little extra glow in

[32:56] downtown Portland tonight after the 22nd

[32:58] annual tree lighting ceremony at Pioneer

[33:00] Courthouse Square. this evening. There

[33:01] it goes. You can see the tree light up

[33:03] from our Fox Tower cam right there and

[33:05] all of the lights of the city seen here

[33:08] from Air12. Organizers expect nearly

[33:11] 25,000 people to attend that tree

[33:13] lighting and that's about what they got

[33:14] out there. A huge crowd featured several

[33:16] speakers including Mayor Tom Potter and

[33:18] also Macy's Santa. And the Oregon Zoo

[33:22] looks much more festive tonight after

[33:23] they turned nearly a million holiday

[33:26] lights on. The traditional zoo lights

[33:28] display opened up today with a Wizard of

[33:30] Oz theme. People at the zoo say that you

[33:32] can follow their yellow brick road to

[33:34] the Emerald City farm and also meet all

[33:36] the famous characters. Zoo Lights is

[33:38] open every night until New Year's Eve

[33:40] except for Christmas Eve and Christmas

[33:42] Day.

[33:46] Fox 12 chief meteorologist Mark Nelson

[33:47] joins us now. It's going to be a little

[33:49] dicey to travel over the next few days,

[33:50] huh?

[33:51] >> I think so. Yeah, Sunday still looks

[33:52] like a rough day. We've been talking

[33:53] about that for quite a while. The good

[33:54] news, I think the snow level is going to

[33:55] be a little bit higher than what we had

[33:56] anticipated about two days ago. So,

[33:59] Coast Range does look mainly wet the

[34:01] next two days, maybe a little bit of

[34:02] slush coming up tomorrow morning, but

[34:04] that really should be just about it.

[34:05] Now, if you're headed uh up to I5 to

[34:08] Seattle, it looks like pretty good

[34:10] conditions. It is possible Seattle could

[34:12] see a little bit of snow coming up on

[34:14] Sunday morning. That should be about it

[34:15] there. Now, through the Columbia River

[34:17] Gorge, I was a little bit worried about

[34:18] some possible snow maybe Sunday morning.

[34:22] Yeah, just possibly some wet snow coming

[34:24] up on Sunday morning. And if you headed

[34:26] out to the east or to up through the

[34:28] Cascades to the east into central

[34:29] Oregon, still snowy slow through Sunday.

[34:31] I just checked the weather cams at San

[34:33] Pass and government camp and it looked

[34:34] real snowy up there. Temperatures below

[34:36] freezing. So, uh, pretty messy. Also in

[34:38] the Blue Mountains, heavy snow warning

[34:39] just tonight. So, if you're traveling

[34:41] over Meechum, heavy snow there that will

[34:43] continue at least a snow covered

[34:44] roadway. The snow will taper off

[34:46] tomorrow, but Sunday looks real messy in

[34:47] the Blue Mountains. And then Syscue

[34:49] Summit, still snow covered uh through

[34:51] Sunday. Of course, all this snow is

[34:52] really good news because every ski area

[34:54] except Mount Hood Meadows will be open

[34:56] as of tomorrow within our viewing area.

[34:58] So, a very early start to the ski

[35:00] season. Now, back here in town, we had a

[35:02] beautiful first day of shopping, I guess

[35:04] you would call it, in downtown Portland.

[35:06] Nice little rainbow. One of our

[35:07] photographers caught this late this

[35:09] morning, and we don't really have much

[35:11] of any shower activity left across the

[35:12] middle of the metro area at this hour.

[35:14] Still some showers moving down to the

[35:15] coast range and a few showers in the

[35:17] Cascades. And really, that's about it.

[35:19] Now with partial clearing, temperatures

[35:20] dropping a bit more quickly tonight at

[35:22] 37 at Kelso, 42 at Portland, 42 at

[35:24] Salem, and some 30s east side as well.

[35:27] And here's the big picture and kind of

[35:29] have a weak cold front right in this

[35:31] area. You can see a line there. There's

[35:32] lots of cold air pouring in behind it

[35:34] once again, but the showers really taper

[35:35] off back here. What we're really

[35:37] watching is this storm coming in for

[35:38] Sunday. We've been expecting this for a

[35:40] few days. It looks like the track of the

[35:42] storm will bring it right across the

[35:44] northwest. We think it's going to track

[35:45] right to our north. As it does so,

[35:48] you'll see the rain and snow suddenly

[35:49] pick up. Tomorrow, pretty quiet. But on

[35:51] Sunday morning, watch this. You see it

[35:53] suddenly fill in. And early Sunday

[35:55] morning, the uh rain begins to move into

[35:56] the valleys. Notice it's rain here in

[35:58] the valley. Snow in the mountains. And

[35:59] as it goes by to the north, it pulls up

[36:01] a south wind. So, for that reason, I

[36:03] don't think we'll see snow on Sunday.

[36:04] Behind it, cooler air. That's when we

[36:06] get into that chance for a snow shower.

[36:08] So, Saturday, tomorrow, light showers,

[36:09] 1500T snow level. Sunday, it goes way up

[36:11] to 2500 ft. Just rainy and windy. And

[36:14] then Monday, the snow level comes down

[36:16] to between 500 and 1,000 feet. Wet snow

[36:18] showers here in the city. So, forget

[36:20] about snow the next two days. Monday

[36:22] could possibly happen. I've got all

[36:24] sorts of detailed information about that

[36:25] on the blog. All the technical lingo.

[36:27] So, if you really want to hear more

[36:28] about this and great detail, head to the

[36:31] blog. But I think we could see some snow

[36:32] showers uh sun Monday picking up in the

[36:34] city. Uh 48 Newport tomorrow, 45 in

[36:37] Salem, 45 in Albany. Just very light

[36:40] showers tomorrow. Very calm weather day.

[36:42] to the east, maybe another two or four

[36:43] four inches in the northeast part of the

[36:45] state, maybe another four to six inches

[36:47] in the Cascades for the next 24 hours.

[36:49] Some heavy snow coming up Sunday and

[36:51] your first live and local forecast here

[36:52] in town. Light showers, but some steady

[36:55] rain late tomorrow, probably right

[36:56] around sunset. 36 to start with. A

[36:58] little bit cooler tomorrow afternoon,

[36:59] about 45° and just not a lot of moisture

[37:01] at all falling out of the skies. Mid40s

[37:03] everywhere west side and the east side

[37:05] of town coming up for tomorrow. Both

[37:07] sides of town down into the 30s tonight

[37:09] as well. 34 in Sandy. in your 7-day

[37:11] forecast. Rain on Sunday, snow showers

[37:15] Monday, then we turn real cool, a good

[37:17] freeze each night. Temperatures only in

[37:19] the upper 30s each day, but it looks

[37:20] very dry beginning on Tuesday. And of

[37:23] course, tomorrow morning, Saturday, Good

[37:24] Day Oregon starts at 6 a.m. with

[37:26] Stephanie Kovich.

[37:30] The unbelievable in tonight's final cut,

[37:32] including how a man was stabbed in the

[37:34] back for not washing his hands. Would

[37:37] you believe in a device that promises to

[40:15] pattern expels rain and snow while

[40:17] keeping the tread blocks in solid

[41:10] them.

[41:10] >> And the final cut starts with news

[41:11] across America and the search for two

[41:13] missing boys. Authorities used both

[41:14] airplanes and divers today to search for

[41:16] the boys who've been missing since

[41:18] Wednesday. Their mother says that they

[41:20] were last seen playing in a yard on a

[41:22] Minnesota Indian reservation. Tonight,

[41:24] the FBI says it's not sure if the boys

[41:26] were kidnapped or if they just wandered

[41:28] off. Authorities say a family dispute

[41:30] turned deadly when a gunman burst into a

[41:32] Thanksgiving Day dinner and opened fire,

[41:34] killing three people. Two women and one

[41:37] man died in the apartment yesterday

[41:39] afternoon in North Oakland. A fourth

[41:41] victim broke his back when he tried to

[41:43] escape the gunfire by jumping out of a

[41:45] thirdstory window. Police arrested two

[41:47] brothers in connection with those

[41:48] shootings. Investigators say that they

[41:49] are related to the victims. Authorities

[41:51] believe the shooting stemmed from a

[41:53] child custody battle. Well, an argument

[41:56] about handwashing ends with a man

[41:58] getting stabbed in the back. People at a

[42:00] bar say that somebody got mad after he

[42:02] thought a man didn't wash his hands

[42:03] after coming out of the bathroom. After

[42:06] an argument with the man and his friends

[42:07] inside the bar, police say the suspect

[42:10] hid outside and stabbed one of the

[42:29] >> We're checking out the bar and grill

[42:31] type restaurant tonight and here is what

[42:34] we found. The Brierwood Bar and Grill in

[42:36] Gresham has moved up from a 76 out of

[42:39] 100, as you saw here on Dirty Dining, to

[42:41] now an 84 on their new inspection. It is

[42:45] a bigger jump for the Maui Grill in

[42:47] Salem. They hit a low of 63. That is an

[42:50] F, a failing grade. Inspectors are

[42:52] required then to check back and make

[42:53] sure that the restaurant boosts the

[42:55] grade or there will be trouble. They did

[42:58] boost that grade to a 97. Some highs

[43:01] now. Georgia's Corner Sports Bar and

[43:02] Grill in North Portland gets a perfect

[43:04] score. 100 also for Yakatan Grill in

[43:07] Southwest Portland and it is a top score

[43:10] for Towalatan Island Grill of course in

[43:13] Toalatin. And that is Dirty Dining for

[44:00] about 6:00 hour time, but some parts

[44:02] didn't load as quickly as they usually

[44:23] Microsoft's people say technical issues

[44:38] Nicole Brown Simpsons family attorney is

[44:41] accusing eBay of not doing enough to

[44:42] pull copies of the book if I did it from

[44:44] their website. An eBay spokesperson says

[44:47] that the site has removed listings of

[44:48] the book when they find them. In one

[44:50] listing, bids topped a million dollars

[44:52] for a copy before it got pulled. The

[44:54] book's publisher, Harper Collins, says

[44:56] that all copies of the book will be

[44:58] destroyed, but they admit that some may

[45:00] get out. And Jim Car's branching out

[45:02] from comedy to drama in his latest movie

[45:04] called Number 23. Carrie plays a man who

[45:06] becomes obsessed with a book that

[45:07] seemingly reflects the story of his own

[45:09] existence. The character believes Number

[45:11] 23 is woven through his life. That movie

[45:13] also stars Virginia Madson. And that is

[45:16] tonight's final cut.

[45:22] >> LAKERS AND YOU'RE WATCHING FRIDAY NIGHT.

[45:29] >> WELL, good evening and welcome to Friday

[45:30] Night Lights. In addition to the high

[45:32] school football quarterfinals tonight,

[45:34] we're also going to take you to Corvalis

[45:35] where the Beavers and Ducks met in the

[45:37] 110th Civil War. But first, number one

[45:40] Jesuit hosting number two Sheldon being

[45:42] hyped as the game of the year in high

[45:44] school football. Our very own Ron Callen

[45:46] was on the scene and he has tonight's

[45:48] big game.

[45:50] Hey, hey, thanks a lot, Matt. You know,

[45:52] we we thought it was kind of going to be

[45:53] like a high school version of Ohio State

[45:55] versus Michigan. Jesuit and Sheldon, but

[45:57] it didn't really turn out to be that

[45:59] close a ball game. Let's take a look at

[46:00] the highlights. The Crusaders and the

[46:02] Fighting Irish. And there are the guys

[46:03] in green and gold. Jesuit all pumped up

[46:06] before the game. They get an early

[46:07] safety, make it two nothing. Now this is

[46:09] number 20 Paul Weatherroy. He runs

[46:11] around the left end and after one

[46:13] quarter it's nine nothing Jesuit to the

[46:16] second quarter. How about number 20 Paul

[46:18] Weatherroy. This time around the left

[46:20] end again bounces off one of the Irish

[46:22] goes into the end zone. It is now 16-

[46:24] nothing. Still second quarter. This is

[46:26] Raphael Lumber. Watch this guy's speed.

[46:28] He takes off all the way to the end

[46:30] zone. He's 5'8 172. And now still second

[46:33] quarter 23 zip Crusaders. And then just

[46:36] before halftime, how about a third

[46:38] touchdown for Paul Weatherroy and your

[46:40] score at halftime courtesy of the

[46:41] Crusader cheerleaders.

[46:44] >> 30.

[46:49] >> All right. Thank you very much. Nice

[46:51] job. Well, second half, guess what?

[46:53] Number 20, Paul Weatherroy. This one a

[46:56] 70 touchdown. He winds up with five

[46:59] touchdowns on the night. And get this,

[47:01] 329 yardds rushing. And the

[47:04] cheerleaders, they get one push-up for

[47:05] every point scored. Well, they had to do

[47:08] 65 there because the final score is 657

[47:11] Jesuit.

[47:13] >> Defensive plan. Our coaches did a great

[47:14] job with it and our kids executed

[47:16] excellently and it was just overall our

[47:18] best game of the year.

[47:19] >> Oh, thanks. Yeah, my offensive line did

[47:21] an outstanding job. Um, they're a great

[47:23] bunch of guys. Um, made some very very

[47:26] uh great holes and uh got the job done.

[47:30] >> And a night that Paul Weatherway will

[47:32] probably never forget. and Sheldon would

[47:34] like to forget very quickly. Jesuit, no

[47:36] doubt the heavy favorites to move on and

[47:38] win the state championship again. Live

[47:40] at Jesuit High School, Ron Callen,

[47:42] Friday Night Lights. Thanks, Ron. Who

[47:44] saw that coming tonight? Well,

[47:46] elsewhere, Lake Oiggo was hosting the

[47:48] Grant Generals. Grant also putting its

[47:50] perfect 11-0 record on the line. We

[47:52] picked this one up late in the first

[47:53] quarter. Lakos Duncan White to Kyle

[47:55] Lavender. 35 yd touchdown. Lakers on top

[47:58] 7 nothing. Grant responded as they

[48:00] usually do. Second quarter. Andre

[48:02] brought us to Paul McCoy. 26-yd

[48:04] touchdown that tied the game at seven at

[48:07] halftime. Lake O led 14-13 in the fourth

[48:10] quarter, but Grant gets the Andre Brunis

[48:12] touchdown. Generals only led 1914 after

[48:15] missing the two-point conversion. That

[48:17] ends up costing them the game because

[48:19] Lako Sam Buckingham 14 yd score right

[48:22] here. That touchdown put the Lakers on

[48:24] top 20 to9 and it is a one-point

[48:27] victory. That is the final tonight. Our

[48:30] game plan was that we knew they had

[48:31] two-way starters. Our game plan was just

[48:33] to come out, wear them down. Halftime,

[48:35] we were tied up. That's what we wanted.

[48:36] We came out second half, the line just

[48:38] kept on pushing and pushing and we

[48:40] getting 67 yards every run that we ran

[48:42] it through when we wanted to in the

[48:43] second half. And that's what we needed.

[48:46] >> Big win for LEO. Now you know it's the

[48:48] playoffs. You get all pumped up.

[48:49] Clackamus all set to host Southridge

[48:51] tonight. But just before kickoff, the

[48:53] start of the game delayed by a power

[48:55] outage. That meant no public address

[48:56] announcer, no lights in the press box,

[48:59] and no scoreboard. But the stadium

[49:01] lights still work. So they played the

[49:03] game. We pick it up in the third

[49:04] quarter. 1914 Clackamus, but

[49:07] Southridge's Kevin Coleman goes for the

[49:08] touchdown. Skyhawks on top 20 to9. Later

[49:11] in the third, Clackamus driving, but the

[49:13] pass deflected, picked off by Andrew

[49:15] Keller. And Andrew Keller is gone. On

[49:18] his way for the touchdown to make it

[49:19] 2719 Southridge. played in the fourth.

[49:22] Clackamus rallying back Ryan Cook to

[49:24] Kyle Wakowski. It's a 15-yd touchdown.

[49:26] Clackamus only down by two. So they go

[49:28] for the two-point conversion. Going to

[49:30] try to tie this game up, but the pass

[49:32] knocked down by Jordan Barta. And

[49:34] Southridge holds on for the win 27-2.

[49:39] Let's hit the road where South Eugene

[49:40] was hosting Cani tonight. The game was

[49:42] tied at 10 in the third quarter, but

[49:44] it's South Eugene's Hank Turner short

[49:46] touchdown. Axemen take the lead 17-10.

[49:48] Near the end of the third quarter, can

[49:50] be answering back. Travis Hunter hooking

[49:52] up with TJ Gorman. That touchdown ties

[49:55] the game at 17. In the fourth quarter,

[49:57] South Eugene stuck. Fourth and one.

[50:00] Cami's Mike Stosdale. Big defense

[50:02] stopping him cold. 15 seconds left in

[50:06] this game. Cami. Oh, you dream of these.

[50:08] Gamewinning field goal by Travis Hunter.

[50:11] And the Cougars come up with the win on

[50:13] the road tonight, 20-7. So here is how

[50:16] the 6A semifinals will look next weekend

[50:19] can be at Jesuit and in the other

[50:21] semi-final Lake Asiggo at Southridge. We

[50:24] are down to four teams and

[50:26] congratulations to all of tonight's

[50:28] winners. Well, on this Friday, there was

[50:29] more than high school football in the

[50:31] schedule. When we come back, the Ducks

[50:33] and Beavers clashing in Corvalis. It was

[53:17] Hey parents, stay in the no this winter.

[53:19] Rely on Good Day Oregon for current

[53:21] school closures and delays. Mornings on

[53:23] Fox 12. First live local for you.

[53:33] Welcome back. Down in Corvalis, it was

[53:35] the Ducks and Beavers today, the 110th

[53:37] installment of the Civil War, and you

[53:39] couldn't have predicted a wilder finish.

[53:40] Our own Tim Becker was on the scene, and

[53:42] he has the Civil War story.

[53:45] At stake in today's Civil War game, a

[53:47] third place finish in the Pack 10

[53:48] Conference and a probable trip to the

[53:50] Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. A trip to

[53:53] the Sun Bowl sounds perfectly wonderful

[53:56] after today's rainbow down here at Reer

[53:58] Stadium.

[53:59] >> Love it.

[54:00] >> Oregon will go to work at its 29 yd

[54:03] line.

[54:03] >> A record crowd of 44,000 was cooled by

[54:06] the steady rain, but warmed by a heated

[54:09] ball game. One of the closest civil wars

[54:11] in recent history. Dante Rosario's

[54:14] fumble on the Duck's first possession

[54:16] led to the first touchdown of the day.

[54:18] The Beaver scoring three plays later

[54:20] when Matt Moore finds Jason Vanderver

[54:23] for the 11yd touchdown and a 7 nothing

[54:25] lead.

[54:26] >> You know, I can't say enough. It's just

[54:27] one of those one of those deals you get

[54:29] pumped up for.

[54:30] >> Oregon's Jonathan Stewart countered with

[54:32] a huge game, amassing 235 yards of

[54:35] combined offense for the Ducks. His

[54:37] short run tying at seven all after one.

[54:40] The second quarter was all Oregon State

[54:42] though. Brady Leaf starting for the

[54:44] bench. Dennis Dixon is intercepted by

[54:46] Derek Dogette and his 34yd return helps

[54:49] OSU grab a 20-7 halftime lead. It should

[54:52] have been 20-13, but Oregon kicker Paul

[54:56] Martinez missed two first half field

[54:58] goals, forcing the Ducks to rally late.

[55:00] But that they did. Leaf finding Jordan

[55:03] Kent with three minutes left in the game

[55:05] and a two-point conversion vaulted the

[55:07] Ducks ahead 28-27.

[55:10] But the Beavers didn't give up. Moore

[55:12] passes to Sammy Strod and that helped

[55:14] set up a 40yd Alexis Cerna field goal.

[55:17] He was a perfect three for three in the

[55:19] game and gives OSU the lead back with a

[55:22] minute to play. A final chance for the

[55:24] Ducks. Matt Evansson in for a benched

[55:26] Martinez, but his field goal attempt is

[55:29] blocked. The final score, Oregon State

[55:31] 30, Oregon 28.

[55:33] >> We stuck together. We never gave up. All

[55:35] those cliche answers, uh, but that's

[55:37] really true. You know, we stuck together

[55:39] and just played ball. We fixed things

[55:40] and and now, you know, we're going to

[55:42] the Sun Bowling. So, uh, we're excited.

[55:44] You know, we can't wait

[55:45] >> in Corvalis. Tim Becker, Fox 12 Sports.

[55:48] >> What a game today. Well, that's going to

[55:50] do it for tonight's installment of

[55:51] Friday Night Lights. We're back next

[55:52] week with the state semi-finals, but

[55:54] don't go anywhere because the 11:00 news

[55:56] is up next.

[58:47] >> I got online to vancouvertoyota.com

[58:50] and found the truck that I wanted. I

[58:52] don't have a lot of time, so I needed

[58:54] things to run smoothly and go smoothly

[58:56] when I purchased this truck. So, I

[58:58] called him in advance, asked him to set

[59:00] it up and have everything ready, and it

[59:02] was right there and done.

[59:03] >> Buying a car will never be so easy.

[59:28] where the spirit of the season has gone.

[59:30] How you can help track down the driver

[59:31] who totaled her car. Wintry weather is

[59:36] dangerous travel conditions. Mark First

[59:37] Life forecast is calling for snow. See

[59:40] if you'll have it at your house. And if

[59:42] you use your card instead of carrying

[59:44] cash, you might be putting yourself in

[59:46] debt. We will show you why. The 11

[59:48] o'clock news starts now. I'm Wayne

[59:50] Garcia. Shauna is off tonight and here's

[59:52] a look at Fox 12's top stories at 11.

[59:56] >> Police have arrested a man they say

[59:57] coached youth football and volunteered

[59:59] with the Boy Scouts on charges of sex

[60:01] abuse. Tiger police say William Boltz is

[60:03] accused of inappropriately touching a

[60:05] boy when he was 10. Cops say the abuse

[60:07] happened 5 years ago. Tonight we spoke

[60:09] to someone at Volta's Tiger home. She

[60:11] says Voltz has admitted to the abuse and

[60:14] that he is ashamed and sorry. Still,

[60:16] police are concerned. So far, they have

[60:18] no evidence of further abuse, but they

[60:19] say Boltz did spend a lot of time with

[60:21] kids. They're asking anyone with

[60:23] information about Boltz to call Tiger

[60:25] Police. In News, David Freighus, the

[60:27] 11:00 news.

[60:29] >> Tonight, Long View police are looking

[60:31] for a purse snatcher who they say has

[60:33] targeted three women in the last week.

[60:36] And it's all happened at the same store.

[60:38] This Fred Meyer on Ocean Beach Highway.

[60:41] The thief took one woman's purse in the

[60:43] parking lot around noon yesterday.

[60:45] Security guards told police it was very

[60:47] similar to two other thefts within the

[60:50] week. Now, they do have some

[60:51] surveillance video, and police think

[60:54] their suspect is a white man about 5' 10

[60:57] wearing a red sweatshirt and blue jeans.

[61:00] Now, police have questioned the owner of

[61:02] a pickup truck they think may be

[61:04] connected to these purse snatchings. But

[61:07] so far tonight, no one has been

[61:09] arrested. In Long View tonight, Jamie

[61:11] Wilson, the 11:00 news. I'm Tim Becker

[61:14] in Corvalis where I found at least

[61:16] 44,000 people who missed out on today's

[61:19] Black Friday shopping madness. They were

[61:22] all here at the Civil War game where

[61:24] Reer Stadium sold out for the first time

[61:26] since being expanded. Normally a

[61:29] Saturday affair, but the powerful pull

[61:31] of a crossstate rivalry, even on a rare

[61:33] Friday after Thanksgiving, was enough to

[61:36] keep them out of the stores and in the

[61:38] stadium. You're not one of those people

[61:39] that goes out and goes shopping on

[61:41] Friday after Thanksgiving, are you?

[61:43] Sometimes. Sometimes, but not this

[61:45] weekend. I'd rather be here. It's better

[61:47] than parking

[61:49] or not parking.

[61:50] >> Not a black Friday, but a black and

[61:52] orange Friday. The Beavers with their

[61:53] fifth straight Civil War victory at

[61:55] home. Highlights later in sports in

[61:57] Corvalis. Tim Becker. The 11:00 news.

[62:00] >> And KPTV's David Wilson joins us live

[62:02] now with what's new at 11. David?

[62:04] >> Yeah. Tonight, a Southeast Portland

[62:06] woman is trying to find a hit-and- run

[62:07] driver who she says smashed her car to

[62:08] pieces and left her for dead. and she

[62:10] wants your help in finding that driver.

[62:13] >> So, it doesn't it doesn't open. Um, part

[62:16] of the trunk is smashed as well.

[62:19] >> Ashley Sharp was driving this 1989 Mazda

[62:22] home from her job Wednesday evening when

[62:24] the 20-year-old says a hit-and- run

[62:26] driver nearly killed her.

[62:27] >> I thought I was dead. I um the glass was

[62:31] flying everywhere and pieces of the door

[62:33] was flying at me.

[62:34] >> The Mazda took a beating. The impact

[62:36] bent the frame, but somehow Ashley

[62:38] crawled from the car with only a few

[62:40] bruises and some whiplash.

[62:42] >> All I can remember is I could see the

[62:44] headlights and then I think I passed out

[62:46] and then I came too and the car was

[62:48] backing out of my car.

[62:50] >> She says the driver never even checked

[62:52] to see if she was okay.

[62:54] >> I could have been really hurt and he

[62:56] just left for his own selfish reasons.

[62:58] >> But the suspect vehicle left behind some

[63:00] evidence.

[63:01] >> Yeah.

[63:02] >> And then part of the headlight. Ashley

[63:05] believes she has part of the bumper and

[63:06] a light and she wonders why the driver

[63:09] left.

[63:10] >> Either his license was suspended or he

[63:13] was drunk.

[63:14] >> Ashley only had liability insurance. So,

[63:17] she now has to pay for her physical

[63:19] therapy and replacement car all on her

[63:21] own. She wants whoever is responsible to

[63:24] come forward.

[63:25] >> I don't think it's fair that he can just

[63:27] drive away and it's over for him, but I

[63:30] still have to, you know, pay for it.

[63:33] Now, that accident happened uh Wednesday

[63:35] night at Southeast 112th in Market

[63:37] Street. The hit and run vehicle is a

[63:39] late7s, early 80s Buick or Cadillac,

[63:41] brown and tan in color with some

[63:43] frontend damage. Anyone with information

[63:45] should call Portland police. We're live

[63:47] at the Fox 12 mobile newsroom tonight.

[63:49] David Wilson, the 11:00 news.

[63:56] Your top three kicks off tonight in

[63:57] Miami, where a cartoonist held cops at

[63:59] bay for hours at the Miami Herald

[64:01] building. Workers say Jose Varela seemed

[64:04] agitated when he walked into the

[64:06] newsroom and demanded to see the editor

[64:07] of the Herald's Spanish language sister

[64:10] paper. Varela's attorney says he was

[64:12] concerned about what he called a

[64:13] conflict of interest at the paper. Cops

[64:15] say Varela did have a gun, but says that

[64:18] it was fake. He surrendered peacefully

[64:20] after about 2 hours. Now, an update on

[64:23] one of the top three that we brought you

[64:24] last night. A gunman and a hostage are

[64:26] dead following a 23-hour standoff in

[64:29] Chicago. Police say the gunman shot the

[64:31] hostage, then himself. SWAT teams

[64:34] stormed the building after hearing those

[64:35] shots. Chicago police say they never

[64:37] fired at the gunman. There was also only

[64:39] one hostage, not two, as first reported.

[64:43] An intense fire ripped through a

[64:44] warehouse in Tennessee this morning.

[64:45] Firefighters couldn't do much because

[64:47] the building was fully engulfed in

[64:48] flames when they arrived. The fire was

[64:50] so hot the heat melted siding off of

[64:53] homes across the street. No one was

[64:55] hurt, and investigators are still trying

[64:57] to figure out what sparked that fire.

[65:02] More violence in Iraq begins your top

[65:04] three international stories. In response

[65:06] to yesterday's car bombings that killed

[65:08] more than 200 Shiites in Baghdad,

[65:11] militia man fought back today, burning

[65:13] mosques and attacking worshippers as

[65:15] they left Friday services. The

[65:17] government imposed a curfew in Baghdad

[65:19] after yesterday's violence, but it

[65:20] wasn't enough to keep the Shiite rebels

[65:22] from striking back. Iraq's prime

[65:24] minister urged calm in a televised plea.

[65:27] President Bush plans to meet with him

[65:29] next week. Canadian police have seized

[65:31] $6 and a half million dollars of pot

[65:33] when they busted a grow operation at a

[65:35] high-rise apartment complex. The

[65:38] operation involved 22 apartments over

[65:40] nine floors of the building. Cops took

[65:42] 6,500 plants into evidence. They'll be

[65:45] destroyed. Three men are facing charges

[65:47] in connection with the bust, including

[65:48] the apartments manager. Thousands are on

[65:51] the move in Portugal tonight where heavy

[65:53] rain has caused widespread flooding.

[65:55] Several villages and towns are flooded

[65:57] and people are using rowboats to try to

[65:59] get around. Wind gusts of 75 miles per

[66:02] hour knocked down some 200 trees. Power

[66:05] down in some remote areas and hundreds

[66:07] of people are still trapped in their

[66:08] homes. The bad weather is expected to

[66:10] continue through tomorrow.

[66:15] Well, a cold and wintry start to the top

[66:16] three in the Northwest where Snowqualami

[66:18] Pass is reopened tonight following a

[66:20] temporary closure this afternoon.

[66:22] Transportation workers purposely caused

[66:24] an avalanche through the pass to avoid a

[66:26] natural slide later on what would have

[66:28] been a busy roadway. The state reopened

[66:31] the pass once enough snow came down and

[66:33] crews were sure that the danger was

[66:34] over. Meantime, nasty driving conditions

[66:36] will continue this weekend over the past

[66:38] because more heavy snow is predicted. If

[66:41] your travels take you to Lynwood,

[66:43] Washington next year, you should know

[66:45] that red means stop. Lynwood is the

[66:47] latest Washington city to use red light

[66:49] cameras. City plans to install the

[66:51] cameras at six intersections early next

[66:53] year. The system works just like the

[66:55] ones here in Oregon. If you run a red

[66:56] light, the cameras take a snapshot off

[66:58] you and then you will get a ticket in

[67:00] the mail. Seattlebased Amazon.com has

[67:03] some technical problems to kick off the

[67:05] holiday shopping season. The retailer

[67:07] was offering Microsoft's Xbox for $100

[67:10] and they sold out in 29 seconds. But

[67:13] demand for the deal was so heavy it

[67:15] disrupted Amazon's site for about 15

[67:17] minutes. The first 1,000 shoppers who

[67:19] got through got the bargain. The video

[67:21] game console usually sells for 300

[67:24] bucks.

[67:26] Portland's living room came to life

[67:28] earlier this evening with a holiday

[67:29] tradition. The city officially turned on

[67:31] the lights on the Christmas tree in

[67:32] Pioneer Courthouse Square. The 75 ft

[67:35] Douglas fur tree from the Gaston area

[67:37] will remain in the square until after

[67:39] the new year. This is the 22nd year of

[67:42] that Portland holiday tradition.

[67:44] Now, Portland's first complete forecast

[67:47] at 11 from your first live local weather

[67:50] team.

[67:51] >> Last night at this time, we were getting

[67:53] big downpours, but things have really

[67:54] quieted down. Just some light showers on

[67:56] the coast range and the Cascades. Of

[67:58] course, those are falling as snow and it

[68:00] is time to talk about snow down here in

[68:02] the lower elevations. We can get snow in

[68:04] November and we are going to be really

[68:05] close if not actually get some snow

[68:07] maybe coming up Sunday night or Monday.

[68:09] More on that in a moment. You can see

[68:10] the showers here up towards Battleground

[68:12] and then into Yakultt and those are

[68:14] heading up into the Cascades probably

[68:16] pretty close to Yakultt snow-wise there

[68:18] with pretty chilly temperatures at this

[68:20] hour. Of course, here's the Christmas

[68:21] tree downtown at Pioneer Square. Uh as

[68:23] Wayne mentioned, that's going to be lit

[68:24] for quite a while. This is a live view

[68:26] from our Fox Tower camera. Now, talking

[68:28] about snow, every ski area within our

[68:30] viewing area will be open tomorrow. Even

[68:33] Cooper Spur, which often doesn't open

[68:34] till mid December or so, except

[68:37] unfortunately Mount Hood Meadows Road is

[68:38] still washed out. They're working on

[68:39] that 24 hours a day up there, but

[68:42] hopefully within a week or two that will

[68:43] be opened up. But, uh, pretty early ski

[68:45] season. Timberline Lodge, 26 ines of

[68:48] snow since yesterday morning at 4:00

[68:50] a.m. So, it has really been coming down

[68:51] up there. And they've got a bunch more

[68:53] coming up, not tomorrow, but Sunday. 41

[68:55] at Portland at this hour, 40 at the

[68:56] Dallas, 31 over at Burns. And look at

[68:59] the big picture here. We've got still

[69:00] cool air coming in out of the Gulf of

[69:02] Alaska. This cold air originated up in

[69:04] Alaska and it came out over the ocean.

[69:06] So, it picks up the moisture, then moves

[69:08] on shore. We're watching this storm out

[69:10] here. This is developing. We think it's

[69:11] going to track just about like this and

[69:14] come in just to the north of Portland,

[69:16] assuming it does come into the north of

[69:17] Portland on Sunday, early Sunday

[69:19] morning. What'll happen is it'll pull up

[69:21] a warmer southerntherly wind. So, we

[69:23] don't see a risk for snow at the lowest

[69:24] elevations during the daytime on Sunday.

[69:27] What we do see for tomorrow is just a

[69:29] few scattered light showers, partly

[69:30] cloudy, kind of like today. But notice

[69:32] by 1:00 a.m. Sunday already the rain and

[69:34] snow beginning to pick up.
