[12:48] kid in a home you're

[12:51] learning how to

[12:54] parent I'll say it again in case you

[12:56] missed it growing up as a kid you learn

[13:00] how to parent from your parents part of

[13:04] your life story of a

[13:07] parent is how you were parented by your

[13:12] parents and how they modeled parenting

[13:15] to

[13:16] you one of the things we forget is when

[13:19] you're a kid you don't realize you're

[13:22] also watching your parents grow

[13:25] up you to listen to that all right when

[13:28] you're a kid you don't realize you're

[13:30] also watching your parents grow up how

[13:33] many oldest you're the oldest you're the

[13:36] firstborn how many firstborn kids here

[13:38] firstborn kids all right very good we

[13:41] were the guinea pigs for our

[13:43] parents they practiced on us now how

[13:46] many firstborn people in the room can

[13:48] say Amen that they got easier on your

[13:50] siblings after you

[13:53] amen it was so much EAS especially the

[13:56] baby the baby gets away with everything

[13:58] it's not not fair I'm not bitter I'm not

[14:02] the baby gets away with

[14:04] everything I don't know if there's any

[14:06] babies here in the room you're the

[14:07] youngest and the blessed

[14:10] one but our parents as they we didn't

[14:14] realize it as kids but we're watching

[14:15] our parents grow up parenting goes

[14:19] through seasons of life and one of the

[14:22] things about parenting is that there are

[14:25] different seasons in our parenting life

[14:28] and we'll talk about about them in

[14:29] another series coming up of

[14:31] messages but here in

[14:34] Deuteronomy I want you to draw your

[14:36] attention to the first two words of

[14:38] verse

[14:39] five and

[14:43] thou when you get to verse seven there's

[14:45] a teaching unto thy children we're to

[14:48] teach them

[14:49] diligently we're to talk of them when

[14:52] thou sest in thine house and when thou

[14:53] walkest by the way and when thou liest

[14:55] down and when thou risest up but you

[14:57] can't teach it if it's not in

[15:01] you if it's not in you you can't pass it

[15:05] on and he said Thou shalt love the Lord

[15:08] thy God with all thine heart and with

[15:09] all thy soul and with all thy

[15:12] might then we can

[15:16] teach Christian parenting has had some

[15:22] wrong

[15:24] thinking i' like to give you some

[15:26] principles tonight and we'll talk about

[15:29] him a little bit

[15:31] more we find that most Christian parents

[15:34] have fallen into the Trap of traditional

[15:38] Christian

[15:39] parenting rather than true Christian

[15:41] parenting there's a big difference so

[15:43] number one traditional Christian

[15:46] parenting obsesses over

[15:50] Behavior traditional Christian parenting

[15:54] obsesses over Behavior as long as my

[15:57] kids behave I'm a good

[16:01] parent you ever got to that trap as long

[16:04] as they're doing

[16:06] right I'm

[16:08] good well that's not what true Christian

[16:12] parenting is it's not outward Behavior

[16:17] true Christian parenting focuses on the

[16:20] heart it's the heart that matters so

[16:24] number one traditional Christian

[16:25] parenting obsesses over Behavior true

[16:29] Christian parenting focuses on the

[16:34] heart when we think about that in our

[16:38] lives we're reminded of this important

[16:41] truth God's

[16:43] vehicle for changing your child's

[16:46] life is

[16:50] you because kids don't change unless

[16:54] parents

[16:56] do kids don't change unless parents do

[17:01] you are God's Agent of Change in your

[17:03] home and the lives of your

[17:06] children so there's some things we ought

[17:08] to consider from Deuteronomy that I

[17:11] think will be a help to us he told us

[17:15] Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with

[17:17] all thine heart and with all thy soul

[17:19] and with all thy

[17:21] might he said these words which I

[17:23] command thee this day shall be in thine

[17:25] heart Thou shalt teach them diligently

[17:28] unto thy

[17:30] children God is

[17:33] interested in parents growing

[17:37] up so that our kids can grow up one of

[17:41] the things we must

[17:43] remember is as a

[17:46] parent it is essential for us to realize

[17:50] a Godly parent is always a growing

[17:54] parent a Godly parent is always a

[17:57] growing parent

[17:59] don't get focused don't obsess over

[18:02] Behavior our focus should be on the

[18:07] heart because our heavenly father knows

[18:11] if our our heart is what he's aiming

[18:15] for and if he has our heart we've heard

[18:18] about it in Sunday school it's a

[18:21] relationship with

[18:24] God so traditional Christian parenting

[18:27] obsesses over Behavior well they got to

[18:29] behave they got to behave they got to

[18:31] behave and if all you're focused on is

[18:34] their behavior and you're not interested

[18:36] in your heart listen to me you are

[18:38] preparing a

[18:40] child to walk away from

[18:44] God listen our job as parents is not

[18:48] just to raise

[18:50] children our job as parents is to raise

[18:53] Godly

[18:55] adults in case you missed I'll say it

[18:57] again our job as parents is not to raise

[18:59] children our job as parents is to raise

[19:01] Godly

[19:02] adults we're to take them from when God

[19:06] gave them to us all the way into

[19:08] adulthood and we ought to be shaping and

[19:10] molding them into what God wants them

[19:13] listen you got to go after your kid's

[19:16] heart so God can have their heart

[19:19] forever as a parent you got to go after

[19:22] their heart so God can have their heart

[19:26] forever there is a verse that gets

[19:29] misconstrued often it says train up a

[19:32] child in the way he should go and when

[19:34] he is old he will not depart from

[19:38] it that verse is not a blank check that

[19:41] if you train them they're going to stay

[19:43] with God that's not what that verse says

[19:46] what that verse is telling us is that

[19:48] the training won't go

[19:51] away they can't listen the emphasis of

[19:54] it the effect of it and the way that God

[19:57] could use it in their life down the road

[19:59] it will stay there they may walk away

[20:03] from God but God's got something in them

[20:05] that you were used by God to embed in

[20:08] them that when they walk away God's

[20:10] going to use it to draw them back to

[20:13] him it's the training that doesn't

[20:15] depart not the

[20:17] child why because children have free

[20:20] will they can say no just like you and I

[20:23] can say

[20:24] no so traditional Christian parenting

[20:27] obsesses over Behavior but true

[20:29] Christian parenting or we could call it

[20:31] Godly parenting focuses on the heart

[20:35] secondly tonight traditional Christian

[20:37] parenting appeals to outward

[20:42] Conformity traditional Christian

[20:44] parenting appeals to outward

[20:52] Conformity you got to look the

[20:55] part you got to have it all out

[20:58] outwardly

[21:01] together but true Christian parenting or

[21:04] Godly parenting is motivated excuse me

[21:07] is addresses the inward

[21:11] motives true Christian parenting

[21:13] addresses inward motives not just

[21:17] outward

[21:20] Conformity I don't want them to obey so

[21:23] that they don't get into

[21:25] trouble I want them to obey because they

[21:27] have a heart to

[21:31] obey so the inward motives now

[21:35] listen I wish I could say my wife and I

[21:38] figured this out when we were

[21:40] young we

[21:43] didn't by the way we have a 19yearold

[21:46] and a 10y old you know what we're doing

[21:50] as parents right now

[21:54] growing you know what Godly Parents

[21:57] start to recognize I I don't have it all

[22:00] together Godly Parents start to

[22:02] recognize I can't I need

[22:05] God Godly parenting also recognizes that

[22:09] when I mess up I need to

[22:12] apologize that's a humbling thing for a

[22:15] parent to say I messed up I did it wrong

[22:20] I didn't do it right but listen children

[22:22] don't forget you are watching your

[22:25] parents grow

[22:27] up you are are watching them grow up now

[22:31] here's the sad thing Toddlers and

[22:33] teenagers are

[22:35] different but there are teenagers who

[22:37] still behave like

[22:39] Toddlers and the sad thing is there are

[22:42] adults who still behave like

[22:47] teenagers so in the growth cycle every

[22:50] child is different but the biblical

[22:53] principles of God help us to understand

[22:56] outward Conformity is not answered it's

[22:59] inward

[23:01] motives your children are

[23:04] different but their heart is the

[23:10] same outward Conformity is traditional

[23:14] parenting but true Godly parenting

[23:18] addresses inward

[23:21] motives number three tonight traditional

[23:23] Christian parenting is driven by rules

[23:28] traditional Christian parenting is

[23:31] driven by

[23:33] rules true Christian parenting gets lay

[23:37] excuse me true Christian parenting is

[23:39] motivated by

[23:41] relationship true Christian parenting is

[23:44] motivated by

[23:48] relationship traditional is driven by

[23:51] rules these are the rules you have to

[23:56] obey now listen if we're motivated by

[24:00] relationship we're going to have

[24:01] conversations look at verse seven of

[24:04] Deuteronomy Thou shalt teach them

[24:06] diligently unto thy children and shall

[24:09] talk of them when thou sest in thine

[24:13] house when thou walkest by the way when

[24:16] thou liest down and when thou risest up

[24:20] evidently parents and kids are supposed

[24:22] to talk about Godly

[24:24] things every moment in life is a

[24:27] teachable

[24:31] moment every moment in life is a

[24:34] teachable moment you have an

[24:38] opportunity God put you there you can do

[24:42] it God put you there he put them in

[24:45] Trust of you so that you and I can raise

[24:49] them up the way God wants them to be

[24:52] raised that relationship now listen if

[24:55] your relationship with God is not right

[24:58] you cannot model it to your

[25:03] child if your relationship with God is

[25:06] not right you cannot model it to your

[25:08] child after service tonight if there's

[25:11] any parent who' like one we have What's

[25:13] called the childhood observation

[25:15] analysis it's for all different age

[25:17] groups you can take one for each of your

[25:20] kids unless your kid's like a baby then

[25:23] they're not going to qualify for a lot

[25:25] of these questions but it deals with

[25:27] Biblical knowledge it deals with

[25:29] character it deals socially it deals

[25:31] behaviorally and you rank them down

[25:33] honestly where your child's at you have

[25:36] a conversation with

[25:37] him and there's a score sheet now here's

[25:40] the good

[25:43] news you still got

[25:46] time

[25:48] hello you still got

[25:51] time even if you don't check all the

[25:54] boxes you still got time to invest in

[25:58] them so I'll have these available for

[26:01] parents when they leave because it is a

[26:03] desire of mine and my wies to really

[26:07] help people that are parenting to be

[26:10] able to be Godly

[26:14] Parents I wish I could say that the last

[26:16] 19 years of parenting I've been a

[26:20] perfect parent but there's no such thing

[26:21] as a perfect

[26:23] parent I wish I could say that I've had

[26:25] it all together for all 19 years I

[26:27] haven't

[26:29] but I can tell you this I'm not the

[26:31] parent that I was five years

[26:34] ago and with God's help I will not be

[26:37] the same parent that I am today five

[26:39] years from

[26:40] now I am on a desire to grow as a

[26:46] parent and that emphasis must be part of

[26:51] my daily

[26:52] life our relationship with God as

[26:55] parents is

[26:57] vital if you want good kids you can

[27:00] follow the traditional parenting model

[27:04] you can tell your kid you got to behave

[27:06] you can tell your kid you got to obey

[27:08] the rules you can tell your kid when

[27:10] we're around other people you got to do

[27:12] this and you got to do that and you can

[27:15] come out with a good

[27:17] kid but when they're an adult their

[27:19] heart may be far away from

[27:21] God or you could focus on Godly

[27:25] parenting and you could focus on their

[27:27] heart and you could focus on their

[27:29] inward motives and you could focus on

[27:31] their relationship with you and their

[27:33] relationship with

[27:35] God hey it's a pretty sobering thought

[27:38] for those kindergarten down and

[27:40] Elementary School and teenagers there

[27:41] are the three categories let me give you

[27:44] one of the questions about character are

[27:46] they currently reading their Bible on

[27:48] their own with any

[27:53] consistency are they your children

[27:55] currently reading their Bible on their

[27:57] own with any consistency are they

[28:00] striving to demonstrate any of the fruit

[28:02] of the

[28:05] spirit you say Well they're only five

[28:08] okay recognize we got work to

[28:11] do they're

[28:13] 15 we got to get

[28:17] busy

[28:19] amen they're 19 we got to work to

[28:25] do we could go into the behavior

[28:28] Behavior are they obeying the first time

[28:30] they are told without

[28:32] hesitation do they obey willingly with

[28:35] an attitude of Honor towards you and or

[28:37] others or do they have an attitude

[28:40] problem we got to check it out now

[28:43] listen as parents part of our

[28:46] story as a parent is what we came

[28:53] through but it h does not have to Define

[28:57] you

[28:59] part of our story as parents is what we

[29:02] came

[29:03] through but it does not have to Define

[29:07] you you can grow in your relationship

[29:11] with God and leave behind any traits

[29:14] that were packed into your invisible

[29:16] suitcase when you became a

[29:20] parent the way you discipline your

[29:23] children the way you speak to your

[29:24] children is part of your story of what

[29:27] you came through is part of that but it

[29:29] doesn't have to Define you you can

[29:33] unpack that and pack in something

[29:36] different number four tonight

[29:38] traditional Christian parenting often

[29:41] produces good

[29:43] kids traditional Christian parenting

[29:47] often produces good kids kids that have

[29:52] good behavior kids that have outward

[29:54] Conformity kids that follow the rules

[29:56] everyone looks they such such good

[30:00] kids but true Christian parenting gets

[30:03] laser focused on raising Godly

[30:08] adults they are not just in my house to

[30:13] be good kids they're in our house and in

[30:17] our family to help them become Godly

[30:23] adults if you're only looking at them

[30:25] while they're in while they're in the

[30:27] kids state you're missing it that's not

[30:30] why God gave them to you is just so when

[30:33] they're a toddler you can teach them or

[30:35] when they're in elementary school you

[30:37] could teach them or when they're a

[30:38] teenager you could teach them no you are

[30:40] preparing them to be a Godly

[30:45] adult

[30:49] now

[30:51] God is

[30:53] interested in us changing as parents

[30:58] because kids don't change unless parents

[31:00] do you are God's Agent of Change in your

[31:02] home and in the lives of your

[31:04] children now there's some things to

[31:06] remember about

[31:08] kids number one thing to remember about

[31:10] kids kids are filled with

[31:13] foolishness write this reference down

[31:15] Proverbs

[31:17] 22:15 foolishness is bound in the heart

[31:20] of a

[31:21] child you don't have to teach your child

[31:24] to say

[31:25] no or to lie

[31:29] or how to get raisins stuck up their

[31:32] nose foolishness naturally comes from

[31:38] kids you don't have to teach your son

[31:41] how to stick a fork in a

[31:44] plugin foolishness comes on its

[31:50] own another thing to remember about kids

[31:52] is kids need ongoing

[31:56] guidance write this reference down

[31:58] proverbs

[32:00] 31 Proverbs 3:1 says my son forget not

[32:03] my law but let thine heart keep my

[32:07] Commandments this is why God has given

[32:10] your kids a

[32:12] guide

[32:14] you God didn't give them to somebody

[32:16] else God gave them to you it is your

[32:21] responsibility from God to train them up

[32:24] the way God wants them raised he gave to

[32:28] you you are the

[32:32] guide it is not the state's

[32:35] responsibility to raise your kids it is

[32:38] not the church's responsibility to raise

[32:40] your kids it is

[32:42] yours but it is the church's

[32:44] responsibility to pray and to help equip

[32:49] parents and the emphasis needs to be for

[32:52] parents we got to have a relationship

[32:55] with

[32:56] God Godly kid kids don't happen by

[32:58] accident they are a result of Godly

[33:03] Parents another thing to remember about

[33:05] kids kids are great

[33:09] imitators they're great imitators

[33:11] Proverbs 23:26 write that reference down

[33:18] heart and let Thine Eyes watch this

[33:26] ways observe serve my ways are you

[33:30] comfortable with your kids imitating

[33:35] you children learn by

[33:44] do children are the greatest imitators

[33:47] so give them something to

[33:51] imitate and let it be us imitating

[35:11] imitate a Godly parent is always a

[35:14] growing parent because God is

[35:16] sanctifying you through your

[35:22] parenting 1 Thessalonians 4:3 tells us

[35:25] for this is the will of God even your

[35:30] sanctification God's will for us his

[35:34] process of sanctification becoming more

[35:36] like Christ is

[35:44] parenting any other parents get

[35:46] convicted over the fact that God's

[35:47] growth process for me involves me being

[35:50] a Godly

[35:53] parent and when I'm not modeling Godly

[35:56] parenting

[35:59] I'm not growing the way God intended me

[36:00] to

[36:04] grow I'm not the parent I was 19 years

[36:07] ago when Jennifer and I first Joshua was

[36:10] first

[36:11] born we were not ready for

[36:16] that he was a month old and we moved to

[36:19] Oklahoma to finish up Bible

[36:23] College and for almost two full years my

[36:27] wife

[36:28] was almost like a single mother because

[36:30] I went to classes from 7:30 to 12:30 and

[36:33] then I went to work at 1:00 in the

[36:35] afternoon and I was gone until about 10

[36:37] o'clock at night came home and did

[36:38] homework went to bed and then I did it

[36:39] all over again the next day day after

[36:41] day after day after

[36:43] day I was such an outlaw I I was an

[36:47] in-law but once I moved to Oklahoma that

[36:50] time I was an outlaw I took the first

[36:53] grandbaby the oldest daughter's

[36:55] grandbaby they got to see them for six

[36:58] weeks and then I moved them across the

[37:01] country I was the outlaw for a

[37:07] while but I'm not the parent I was 19

[37:10] years

[37:11] ago and I'm not the parent that I hope

[37:13] to be in five years from now I hope to

[37:15] be

[37:16] better and with Biblical principles and

[37:19] God's sanctifying work in my life we are

[37:22] going to

[37:24] grow that's God's will for us

[37:28] parenting is not a one andone event it

[37:33] is an ongoing process that changes as

[37:36] the seasons of parenting

[37:38] change parenting is not a one andone

[37:42] event it is a ongoing process that

[37:45] changes as the seasons of parenting

[37:51] change when they're in that toddler

[37:55] stage it's different

[37:59] than when they're a

[38:03] teenager but I cannot say well once they

[38:06] get a teenager it's all down it's all

[38:08] coasting from there I just got to Coast

[38:10] to the Finish Line you know how you

[38:12] Coast you know how people Coast

[38:18] downhill I want you to think about it

[38:21] some people say well once you get into

[38:23] the teenage years it's just a coasting

[38:24] job from there it's just easy from there

[38:26] no

[38:27] more engaging in that

[38:30] moment it's more

[38:33] engaging you're equipping them into

[38:36] adulthood guess what happens when they

[38:38] become an adult you're still a

[38:43] parent relationship changes but you're

[38:46] still

[38:49] there so Deuteronomy emphasizes to us

[38:52] that we ought to love the Lord Our God

[38:55] with all our heart with all our soul and

[38:58] with all our might we're to teach

[39:03] it there's a lot of young parents in our

[39:08] church right

[39:10] now there's a lot of middle-aged

[39:15] parents we know who we

[39:19] be but listen

[39:22] tonight everyone in the

[39:24] room needs to pray for

[39:29] parents because they are shaping the

[39:32] Next

[39:33] Generation and some of you don't have

[39:36] children

[39:40] yet God may give you children

[39:43] later so focus on your relationship with

[39:46] God now so when God does give you

[39:49] children you'll parent them

[39:52] Godly but everybody in the room ought to

[39:56] pray for parents

[40:00] God's giving them

[40:03] children for such a time as

[40:08] this it's not an accident that God

[40:12] brought your children into the world

[40:14] during this season of

[40:17] life even though the world is wicked as

[40:19] it is and sinful as it

[40:23] is it is even more imperative that the

[40:27] church pray for

[40:34] parents the world is that listen if you

[40:38] don't teach your child who God is the

[40:41] world will teach him what he

[40:44] isn't if you don't teach your child who

[40:47] God is the world will do a great job at

[40:49] teaching him them who he

[40:53] isn't

[40:55] tonight as a church we've got to pray

[40:59] for

[41:01] parents we've got to be laser focused

[41:04] parents to be

[41:07] Godly I don't just want good kids I want

[41:10] Godly

[41:11] kids who become Godly

[41:17] adults I remember a time as a youth

[41:20] pastor a one of our teen

[41:23] girls asked us to give her some advice

[41:26] on

[41:27] how to read her Bible more consistently

[41:30] in her life and we were giving her some

[41:32] advice and we put together a Bible

[41:34] reading plan for and I went to the house

[41:35] and dropped it

[41:37] off and Mom was in shock she goes my kid

[41:40] reads the Bible all the

[41:42] time we have a set time in our day where

[41:46] all the kids go and they read the

[41:49] Bible I said oh well your daughter went

[41:53] to camp summer camp and she asked for

[41:55] some help and some tools so we we got

[41:57] these for we're Dro she

[41:59] goes I don't think it's

[42:01] true I said

[42:04] okay so she called for her daughter to

[42:06] come out of her

[42:08] room and she

[42:10] asked brother Adam

[42:13] says that you wanted this stuff because

[42:15] you don't know how to read your Bible

[42:16] but tell them that's not

[42:18] true she goes mom you send us to our

[42:21] room but I have no idea what to do when

[42:23] I get

[42:25] there I sit on my bed in my open my

[42:28] bible but I have no idea how to do any

[42:30] of

[42:32] that

[42:34] oh and then one by one other children

[42:37] came out and said the exact same thing

[42:40] listen I cannot expect behavior from my

[42:43] child if it has not been modeled to

[42:48] them I cannot expect behavior from my

[42:51] child if it has not been modeled to

[42:54] them and listen Church

[42:57] we can't expect behavior of Godly

[43:01] parenting from young parents if it's not

[43:04] modeled to

[43:07] them we have to equip them we have to

[43:10] help

[43:11] them so as a church we need to pray for

[43:14] them as a church we need to come

[43:16] alongside and equip

[43:18] them we've got some parents that are in

[43:21] the early stages of raising children you

[43:26] know they got toddlers you know they're

[43:29] in the early stage of raising

[43:33] children because sometimes they toddlers

[43:35] do not

[43:38] behave and the parents have to go into

[43:41] parenting

[43:42] mode and we

[43:46] recognize and

[43:49] sympathize and

[43:52] empathize and we tell them hang

[43:55] on keep it up

[43:57] up it'll work

[44:00] out don't quit don't stop don't pull out

[44:05] your

[44:07] hair hang

[44:12] on and then there are those that their

[44:15] kids are past the toddler

[44:17] stage they're in another stage of

[44:22] life and the problems have changed a

[44:25] little bit

[44:27] now instead of an

[44:29] outburst it's a

[44:32] shutdown they don't want to

[44:35] talk they don't want to

[44:38] communicate see it was easy when they

[44:40] were

[44:41] three because they outward

[44:44] Behavior was Illustrated well listen if

[44:48] you're not checking their inward

[44:50] motives your your teenager will go

[44:53] through the motions and their heart will

[44:55] be nowhere affected

[44:59] you got to pay

[45:01] attention now I wish I could say that

[45:03] I'm a perfect parent there's no such

[45:05] thing as a perfect parent I wish I could

[45:07] say that my wife and I have it all

[45:09] together but guess what we

[45:12] don't because we're still growing as

[45:16] parents this is the first time I've had

[45:19] an 18 19 year

[45:21] old never had one of them

[45:24] before I never had one that's getting

[45:26] ready to go off to college before it's

[45:28] new

[45:33] territory but the biblical truth that

[45:37] ought to grip our

[45:39] heart is that God wants Godly Parents so

[45:44] they can help produce Godly

[45:50] children so parents where's your heart

[45:52] at

[45:54] tonight now some of you are past the

[45:56] parent par in stage of little ones

[45:59] elementary school teenagers your

[46:02] children are now adults you still have

[46:04] influence in their life thank God for

[46:07] it encourage them in the things of God

[46:11] pray for those of this generation Hey

[46:14] listen some of you you didn't have to

[46:16] worry

[46:18] about all the attacks that the devil has

[46:22] in his Arsenal right

[46:25] now when you were growing up as a

[46:30] teen the teenagers that are in this

[46:32] generation there's a lot more ways the

[46:35] devil can get his foot in the

[46:38] door listen you've got to equip your

[46:41] young person to have a relationship with

[46:45] God that'll keep that door

[46:51] closed which means parents you got to

[46:53] put a motion detector on the door

[46:57] what do I mean by you need to pay

[46:58] attention who's coming in and who's

[47:00] going out not just the physical

[47:05] doors the technological

[47:09] doors what's on their

[47:12] phone what's coming in through their

[47:14] social media

[47:15] accounts pay

[47:18] attention evaluate it what they're

[47:21] watching who they're listening

[47:24] to because Satan is very

[47:27] good at coming after

[47:31] children so Godly parenting is watching

[47:34] for

[47:36] hearts so it told us in

[47:39] Deuteronomy when we're sitting when

[47:41] we're

[47:42] standing all of those things revolve

[47:44] around one key phrase in that

[47:47] verse talkest of

[47:51] them you got to have

[47:54] conversations you got to ask questions

[47:58] questions I know sometimes all you get

[48:01] are verbal Grunts from your

[48:04] teenager you got to have

[48:06] conversations you got to pay

[48:09] attention I wish I could say I'm really

[48:12] good at that I'm

[48:15] not I'm not I'm working on it trying to

[48:19] get better at

[48:23] it but all of us ought to have a

[48:27] desire to be a Godly

[48:30] parent because it's not a one anddone

[48:33] event it's an ongoing process that

[48:35] changes as the seasons of parenting

[48:37] change and

[48:39] church we need you to pray for

[48:46] parents on

[48:48] purpose we need you to

[48:50] encourage young parents in their

[48:53] relationship with God

[48:58] praise the

[49:00] positive and help encourage them to deal

[49:04] with the

[49:05] negative praise the

[49:08] positive tonight parent where are

[49:14] you now the paper we're going to make

[49:16] available for parents is a childhood

[49:19] observation analysis but I almost wanted

[49:23] to put a fourth column on here for us as

[49:26] a

[49:28] adults to see where we're at on this

[49:31] checklist and maybe maybe just go down

[49:33] the teen

[49:35] colum and look and see where you're

[49:40] at spiritual

[49:43] character do they receive correction

[49:47] with a teachable

[49:50] spirit are they polite courteous and

[49:53] respectful in their dealings with adults

[49:58] are they dependable and reliable to keep

[50:00] their

[50:05] commitments do they look for ways to

[50:08] serve others rather than primarily for

[50:11] what only serves

[50:15] themselves does the way they talk and

[50:18] respond to you now give you hope for the

[50:23] future evaluate

[50:26] it's always good as a parent to take a

[50:28] season of

[50:30] evaluation and realize I'm not

[50:34] perfect there was only one perfect

[50:37] parent and it's

[50:39] God all the rest of us are a work in

[50:45] progress so pray church for parents if

[50:50] you're a parent tonight I encourage you

[50:51] to pray that you'd be a better Godly

[50:54] parent tomorrow than you are today

[50:59] you have children I'd encourage you to

[51:00] pray for your

[51:02] kids hey if you're in a later stage in

[51:07] parenting you ought to

[51:09] pray for your children's future

[51:14] spouse you ought to be praying for that

[51:18] regularly praying for their salvation

[51:21] praying for their walk with God praying

[51:24] that God would protect them and grow

[51:26] them in their relationship with God you

[51:27] ought to pray for that don't you want

[51:29] your kid to to one day marry someone

[51:32] that's saved that loves God and that's

[51:35] growing their relationship with God we

[51:37] ought to pray for those

[51:40] things we ought to pray for those things

[51:44] tonight I want to be a better parent

[51:49] tomorrow than I was

[51:51] today that'll start with my relationship

[51:54] with God

[51:56] and so will

[51:58] yours now if you're here tonight and you

[52:00] don't know Jesus Christ as your savior

[52:01] you're already behind the

[52:04] curve if you don't if there's not been a

[52:06] time in your life where you've accepted

[52:08] Jesus Christ as your savior you're doing

[52:10] it in your own strength and you're not

[52:15] enough but With God all things are

[52:20] possible you're saved tonight you've got

[52:23] the Holy Spirit living inside you you

[52:25] can become a Godly

[52:30] parent but Church would you pray for

[52:34] parents and God would help them to be

[52:38] Godly so that they can raise Godly

[52:42] children would you bow your heads

[52:46] tonight with heads bowed and eyes closed

[52:48] who'd say Pastor would you pray for me I

[52:51] I want to be a Godly

[52:52] parent I want God to work in my life to

[52:55] be a Godly parent Pastor would you pray

[58:15] had heart fluctuations and heart rate

[58:17] situations had the heart monor there for

[58:19] month so pray for brother Charlie uh if

[58:28] Retreat they'll be leaving Friday and
