[0:03] This is the CBS [music] Evening News
[0:06] with Connie Chung in New York and Dan
[0:09] Rather in Washington. [music]
[0:12] Good evening. In the gloom of a rainy
[0:14] Washington night, the hopes of Ross
[0:16] Perau, Union Labor, and others to defeat
[0:18] the North American Free Trade Agreement
[0:20] have been washed away. The debate drones
[0:23] on back there under the dome. All that
[0:25] remains is the official vote due later
[0:27] this evening. If, as expected, President
[0:30] Clinton wins, it will be hailed as one
[0:32] of his biggest victories. But Ross

[1:07] win it.
[1:08] >> But only if we keep at it, warned the
[1:10] president's top vote count.
[1:11] >> We're not there yet. We're still about 8
[1:14] to 10 votes short.
[1:15] >> And he had reason to worry. There were
[1:17] so many lobbyists inside the capital,
[1:18] they had to be roped off to keep the
[1:20] holes clear. And the opposition was
[1:22] warning of retaliation by the voters.
[1:25] They are going to throw your butts out
[1:27] of here.
[1:27] >> But it was the Democrats who were
