[0:00] Then Bob and I [music] will be back with
[0:01] Channel 2 News at 6.
[0:02] >> See you at 6.
[0:03] >> On the desert today, a vast array of
[0:05] Allied tanks and armored personnel
[0:07] carriers. The US military says that
[0:10] retreating Iraqis are so confused by the
[0:13] order of battle, they do not know where
[0:15] to look next.
[0:17] This is the other great crowd on the
[0:19] desert floor. More than 30,000 Iraqi
[0:22] soldiers have now surrendered. Kuwait,
[0:25] it seems, was not worth fighting for.
[0:28] >> [music]
[0:30] >> From ABC, this is a special edition of
[0:34] World News Tonight with [music] Peter
[0:35] Jennings.

[0:37] Thomas Kelly, the director of

[0:58] left in some units, but in almost every
[1:00] case, the US and its allies have
[1:02] apparently accomplished their individual
[1:04] objectives. The war is not over. For one
[1:07] thing, there's been a serious fight
[1:08] between US and Iraqi forces around the
[1:11] Kuwait International Airport, but the US
[1:14] embassy in Kuwait City has been visited
[1:16] by US Marines. And ABC's Forest Sawyer
[1:19] has arrived in Kuwait City as well. We
[1:22] talked to him less than an hour ago.
[1:26] Forest, you've been in Kuwait City for
[1:28] several hours now. What's your strongest
[1:30] impression?
[1:32] Uh that the city is absolutely deserted.
[1:35] So it appears. I am told that
