[0:09] by an on-ampus memorial on Friday night

[0:12] in Bend. Three children and a teacher

[0:15] were killed in the shooting at Silver

[0:17] Rail Elementary. Another teacher and a

[0:19] seven-year-old student are in serious

[0:21] but stable condition. And we're now

[0:23] hearing about the teacher who tried to

[0:25] stop the shooter with her bare hands and

[0:28] the parent who had two children inside

[0:30] the school who followed the shooter

[0:32] inside. Usher Kureshi is in Bend this

[0:34] morning. Usher, good morning.

[0:37] >> Good morning, Adriana. Well, the

[0:39] memorial here outside Silver Rail

[0:40] continues to grow and investigators are

[0:42] taking a close look at how the shooter

[0:44] got this weapon. Law enforcement sources

[0:46] tell CBS News the shotgun was bought

[0:48] just two months ago around the time he

[0:51] turned 16.

[0:53] Details were released Friday about the

[0:54] horrific mass shooting at an Oregon

[0:56] elementary school. One of the teachers

[0:58] tried to stop the shooter as he entered

[1:00] her classroom.

[1:01] >> A teacher in the classroom threw her

[1:03] cell phone at the suspect and then

[1:05] tackled him and fought to take the

[1:06] firearm from him.

[1:08] >> Police identified the shooter as

[1:09] 16-year-old Griffin J. John II. Law

[1:12] enforcement sources tell CBS News his

[1:14] mother purchased the 12- gauge

[1:15] pumpaction shotgun that was used for an

[1:17] active shooter at Silverville

[1:19] Elementary. The terror unfolded in a

[1:21] matter of minutes. Just before 1 p.m.,

[1:23] police received a call that someone had

[1:25] climbed a fence near Silver Rail

[1:27] Elementary before shooting at a nearby

[1:29] red truck. One minute later, the suspect

[1:31] blasted his way through a locked side

[1:33] door with a shotgun and immediately

[1:35] entered a special education classroom to

[1:37] his left. He fired up to 15 rounds. An

[1:40] armed civilian then rushed into the

[1:42] building and immediately fired at the

[1:43] gunman, striking the gunman several

[1:45] times. When police arrived just 3

[1:48] minutes after the shooting began, the

[1:50] suspect was dead. Three children ages 5,

[1:52] 8, and 11, and a 25-year-old teacher

[1:55] were killed. One of the victims was

[1:57] 5-year-old Rome Summer. His father

[1:59] writing his family is heartbroken. A

[2:01] 7-year-old and another teacher were

[2:03] critically injured and transported to a

[2:05] nearby hospital.

[2:06] >> Please hold the victims of this tragedy,

[2:08] the family,

[2:11] and your community in your hearts with

[2:14] me. The hero community member has been

[2:16] identified as 36-year-old Caleb

[2:18] Giamanco, a father of two girls at the

[2:20] school.

[2:21] >> The quick thinking is incredible and

[2:23] undoubtedly saved people.

[2:26] >> Authorities say the shooter was a former

[2:28] special education student at Silver Rail

[2:30] and that he was shot and killed inside

[2:32] that classroom. Investigators are now

[2:34] combing through his phone, computer, and

[2:35] online activity, searching for any clues

[2:38] to a motive. Meg,

[2:39] >> we are thinking and praying for that

[2:41] community usher. Thank you.
